WHAT ARE THE POLICE HIDING OR WHO ARE THEY PROTECTING???? IS IT ONE OF THEIR OWN WHO COMMITTED THIS CRIME? WAS NINA ALIVE WHEN SHE WAS HIT? WOULD SHE HAVE SURVIVED IF THE DRIVER HAD STOPPED? WHY IS THE POLICE WITHHOLDING INFORMATION. IT WAS A HIT AND RUN THEREFORE CHARGES SHOULD BE FILED AND THE PUBLIC HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW. IF IT WERE AN EVERYDAY PERSON, THE NAME OF THE DRIVER WOULD BE MADE PUBLIC. WHO ARE THEY PROTECTING??? SECRET INVESTIGATION OR PERHAPS A COVER-UP. WONDER WHY THERE IS DISTRUST IN THE POLICE?

I wonder if Sue, Nina's sister has been told her hit her and left her to die?

By hiding information it is easy to come to that conclusion.

It does make one wonder! I feel so badly for her sister, Sue. They attended So. Glens Falls school and they were inseparable even back them. So Sad. Someone told me today that Sue was with Nina when she was hit. I don't know if that is true. I hope not for it will be forever pictured in her mind!

I believe Aaron Cerbone of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise writes a lot about Stefanik, but not sure if his phone calls are returned.

As a life long Independent- I prided myself in voting for a candidate who I believed was the best -regardless of political party. However, I can not now vote for any one, especially Republicans, who will not and have not denounced the actions of Trump and those who participated in the Jan 6th attack. I am waiting for our local elected officials to voice their displeasure and vehement disagreement with the GOP’s ridiculous and frankly dangerous interpretation of the attack on our legitimate election and inevitably our Democracy.

Every voter should vote for the best candidate. That’s how democracy works.

Ken, when reading this post this morning, you got me thinking about my Dad and how he would have thought about the Republican Party right now. My Dad was a life long Republican from the North Country (Malone). My father was born & raised in Malone. Dad was the local chairman of the Republican Committee and held local office prior to his passing. If he were alive now, I imagine my father at the Legion or the Elks talking with patrons... Knowing my Dad, I believe he would take the stand against the RNC censoring and say the Jan. 6th insurrection was wrong. Yet, I wonder when in the voting booth, how would he vote? I hope he would take a stand against Stefanik and say, "this is not my Republican Party".

Thre used to be many like your dad in the local GOP willing to do the right thing.

I am hopeful that the local level GOP is up to do the right thing. My concern is that we need to think more globally and the political pressure with money from big donors is too strong. Now we not only have PACs. the bullies, and sensationalistic 24 hour news along with social media. My Dad and that generation were far more ethical.

I heard recently that the local Warren County GOP met and endorsed Stefanik. I heard there was one descending vote.

Unfortunately what they say will not necessarily be consistent with what they do. I remember Stefanik said what she thought everyone wanted to hear and she has become a scary Trump soldier. I expect she hopes to be his VP choice. I have always been an independent and voted for the best candidate. I can’t imagine voting for a Republican again. This isn’t the party I grew up with and the censuring clarifies their direction for the future. I never imagined we would be here and it is heartbreaking.

I’m glad they’re not rushing to disclose the name of that driver. It is only by the grace of God it was not one of us that did that. This is a humongous burden to carry now.

The Republican Party doesn’t seem to stand for democracy or a republic. If they do, they don’t have the courage to say so. I’m hopeful if they do markedly worse in November than expected that might stiffen their spines. Otherwise, I suppose they get to own Augustus Trump and he gets to own them.

The NRC infamously refused to write a party platform for the 2020 election. What does that say? My take is that they stand for nothing and anything. They stood for whatever Trumps mood of the moment drew them into. Do not hold your breath waiting for “traditional” Republicans to realize the current party doesn’t represent what they thought they believed 2 or 3 decades ago. For most it will not happen. We saw the vote in the last election. There is no significant drop off. Granted, since 2016 there has been a drop in Republican enrollment of 751 in Warren County even as Democrats have gained 1,724 and Blanks gained 1,271, but there needs to be a much larger resignation before GOP either comes to its senses or fades away.

It is an important question: What do local GOP stand for? And do they agree with what is happening to the party nationally?

This week, a local reporter FOILed for an accident report to determine if the individual arrested for DWI was a local attorney. Warren County denied the reporter's FOIL request, stating "disclosing the arrest report would be an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy". Mind you, the arrest had already been posted on the WC sheriff's blotter under "arrest" on 1-27-22. Worth noting, last year then Chairwoman Seeber took control of all the sheriff's FOILs. Up until that time, the Sheriff's office was compliant with FOILs. Supervisor Seeber, except for the sheriff's budget, has no control over Sheriff LaFarr, also an elected official. So, when certain people (Stipend recipient Supervisor Beaty) proclaimed that Chairwoman Seeber was the most transparent chair in the history of Warren County, simply is not true. Of course, Supervisor Beaty had $6K reasons to make such a proclamation.

I hope they appealed because that is illegal. In the old days, newspapers sued and won legal fees.

Post Star reporter Michael Goot submitted a FOIL request in August, 2021 after a citizen made allegations of email spying at the County called "Spygate". The County's response to the FOIL was Mr. Goot would have to wait til 12/31/21. On 12-15-21 Mr. Goot sent an email to the County withdrawing his FOIL request as he had taken a different job at the PS. Without pressure from the newspaper this was buried in spite of then Chair Seeber stating twice, on the record, "these were serious allegations and should be investigated".

Speaking of movies, last night we watched the documentary "No Time to Waste", Betty Reid Soskin, the older park ranger in the Country (100 years young). I thought of your son. Cleary these rangers love their job and love history. This was an inspiring documentary and, at times, brought tears to my eyes. Hope all will try to see this documentary. Movies are streamed by the library each Tuesday during Black History Month. One reason to look forward to February for sure. Always something new to learn.

Ken care to explain “When police departments withhold information on public safety” How is this a hit and run a public safety issue? The police say they have identified the driver and are investigating. It’s more of a moral issue or maybe lack of but not a public safety issue. Sometime people do things that are wrong they know, and they panic. Once fear takes hold of the mind, its anybody guess as to what happens next.

I read the Post Star article the public safety issue is the condition of the sidewalks.

Ken your reply of “Without the details of how the accident happened, it might happen again.” rings hollow.

The Post Star stated, “She was hit while walking on the side of the road in the eastbound lane of Broad Street”. Also, in the article “It is impossible for them to navigate any neighborhood without being in the road. The poor shoveling and abandoned properties account for part of the issue, and those people should be held accountable by the city,” Studenroth said.

If your main concern is the public’s safety, why then is your post titled “Glens Falls Police keep hit and run driver a secret” and your last questions “So why has the person’s name been withheld from the public? Why are they getting preferential treatment?”

I guess the title “Are poorly cleared sidewalks a factor in fatal hit and run accident” is a bit wordy and it just doesn’t have the attention-grabbing effect that “Glens Falls Police keep hit and run driver a secret” has

So, you might want to rethink your reply “Without the details of how the accident happened, it might happen again.” It's not the “how” you’re looking for.

Ken, another excellent column from yesterday. You ask some important questions of our local Republican officials. I will be interested to see if they reply and to see where they stand on "legitimate political discourse."

I hope they have more courage than to follow the national GOP blindly. We expect better of our officials here in the north country.
