Does local GOP believe that was ‘legitimate political discourse?’

This past week the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C. censured Rep. Liz Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger for their service on the January 6 Committee.
Their reasoning: The two members of Congress were persecuting ordinary citizens engaged in “legitimate political discourse.”
Let that sink in for a few minutes - “legitimate political discourse.”
We all saw the brutality that went on that day that might have been even worse if not for the actions of Capitol Police Officers. Finding out what happened on 1/6 is an investigation of 9/11 importance.
Several Republican U.S. senators condemned the action.
“A very unfortunate decision by the RNC and a very unfortunate statement put out as well. Nothing could be further from the truth than to consider the attack on the seat of democracy as legitimate political discourse,” Sen. Mitt Romney told Politico.
Sen. Lindsey Graham said the party is going in the “wrong direction” when it’s not talking about taking back control of Congress.
Oddly enough, the National GOP is supposed to a unifying influence within the party. The fact that it is punishing fellow Republicans for doing their jobs is something all Republicans should be concerned with. It should send a chill through all of us.
You have to wonder what local Republicans stand for anymore and do they believe they need to fall in line behind the Republican National Committee.
Do Sen. Dan Stec and Assemblyman Matt Simpson support the Republican National Committee or will serve the best interests of their local committees?
What about Kevin Geraghty and Sam Hall? As chairmen of the Warren and Washington County Boards of Supervisors, will they fall in line behind the National Republican Committee standards?
Republicans all across both counties deserve to hear whether they believe the actions of the committee are in line with their thinking. How about the Warren and Washington County Republican Committees? Will they follow the lead of the National Republican Committee?
I used to think I knew what Republicans stood for, but I’m not so sure anymore.
I’d love to hear from one of our local Republican leaders and define it for me what the local Republican Party stands for these days.
We’re all still Americans, aren’t we?
Aren’t we?
Hit and Run
In all my years - and I was editor of The Post-Star for 21 years - I don’t recall such a failure to communicate. When police departments withhold information on public safety, it leads to a lack of trust. The general public starts to wonder what they are covering up or who they are protecting.
Police said on Monday they had identified the driver but were still investigating. Since the driver left the scene of the accident, there are obvious charges pending regarding leaving the scene of an accident. So why has the person’s name been withheld from the public? Why are they getting preferential treatment?
Bad year for movies
I consider myself a bit of a movie expert because I watch so many of them. I try to watch all the best films each year. Last year, I concluded that Covid had made it one of the worst years for movies ever.
But after seeing the Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning, I think 2021 may easily top it. I’ll probably be writing a lot more about the Oscars in the coming weeks, but I’ve already seen most of the big Oscar movies.
Just to warn you, I found “The Power of the Dog,” “Licorice Pizza” and “The Last Daughter” movies that were indecipherable. Not only were they not entertaining, I still don’t know what they were about. I could easily see them on the “top 10 worst movies of the year.”
As someone who loves movies, I want to like them and be moved by them, not confused by them. If you are looking for two good movies, try “Belfast” and “King Richard.”
I will let you know if I see more.
Ken, don't hold your breath waiting for a response from the PrincessOfDeath AKA Rep. Stefanik
Ken, when reading this post this morning, you got me thinking about my Dad and how he would have thought about the Republican Party right now. My Dad was a life long Republican from the North Country (Malone). My father was born & raised in Malone. Dad was the local chairman of the Republican Committee and held local office prior to his passing. If he were alive now, I imagine my father at the Legion or the Elks talking with patrons... Knowing my Dad, I believe he would take the stand against the RNC censoring and say the Jan. 6th insurrection was wrong. Yet, I wonder when in the voting booth, how would he vote? I hope he would take a stand against Stefanik and say, "this is not my Republican Party".
