Ms. Stefanik has already received a message of my displeasure regarding her participation in Trump Nazi influenced Madison Square Garden rally.

Unless you are a major donor who will no longer contribute to her because of it, my guess is she couldn’t care less…

Expand full comment

sadly, I think this is only partially true.

Just as hmpy trmpy has been changing his stance on everything fro abortion to israel depending on the day and the different poll.. that is pos_tfnKKK I don't even think she cares about the major donors (their money yes) she is playing the game for wealth and power

to think she is is a low level calculator of pay for play, is not giving her evil enough credit

She really wants to be president. That is the end game.

Elise is in the wrong party for that. She can ask Nikki Haley about what chance a woman has in the Republican Party. For now they’ll allow her to have a House seat.

What’s funny is that she was actually pushing to advance women in the party a few years ago. There were women in the Handmaid’s Tale who were allowed subservient roles and Elise may be allowed to retain one of those.

Or maybe she will retire from Congress and become a Fox-Toxic TV commentator?

Expand full comment

I don't think she is fast enough on her feet for a job like that. She has to study talking points and then repeat, and repeat, and repeat.

Expand full comment

Also, probably right. Only thing that will get her attention is an erosion in the number of votes she gets.

I wonder about the brickbats thrown her way in the Post Star Opinion pages caused her to shut her Glens Falls office. For most people, that would not compute. But Stefanik has a way of speaking only to media and others when assured that she will meet with support. Except now when CNN's anchors challenge her. Now she has her deceitful patter down pat. But that's only recently. So long as she sees a path with Trump and/or other Trump impersonators for her to reach the WH as VP or Prez, she'll be cagey about how she speaks, to whom, and what she says, but it will never be the truth.

Expand full comment

I would suspect it is a way of punishing Glens Falls for the protests. That is how she thinks.

I agree.

There have been many things that took place over the past few years that I couldn't believe.

In 2016, I couldn't believe we would elect an unfit candidate as president. We did.

Year after year, I couldn't believe that president could get any worse. He did.

In 2020. I couldn't believe the president would deny the outcome of a free and fair election. He did.

In 2021, I couldn't believe the president would encourage his supporters to storm the Capitol to prevent the newly-elected president from taking office. He did.

In 2024, I couldn't believe the Republican candidate for president would make violent threats against Americans, call his political opponents "enemies from within," and vow to be a dictator on day one. He did.

So here we are.

Yes. I believe.

And that is the short list.

Pennsylvania is part of that Blue Wall that Harris needs to win. It also happens to have the largest stateside contingent Puerto Rican population and news about that "joke" spread quickly. I understand, though, that Ricky Martin, whose heritage is Puerto Rican, complained to his over 2 million subscribers about the "joke." One would think that that would be a game changer. But what happened is that his complaint and his YouTube channel scrubbed that complaint and interfered with his channel.

As in 2016, 2020 and now in 2024, "the fix" is in among the billionaire and corporate media as well as Google, which was founded on the goal of "don't be evil." The media have absolutely failed this country. There is no symmetry between Harris and Trump. The difference is between Rapunzel and the ogre at the base of the tower. The difference is between more than 250 years of democracy or less as we verge towards totalitarianism. And this is absolutely terrifying.

Florida has the largest number Puerto Ricans. That’s why Rick Scott was so quick to come out and denounce the “joke.” It would be truly delicious if that rally cost Scott his seat the Senate and Republicans the majority.

Pennsylvania has about a half million Puerto Ricans about tied with NJ and behind Florida and NY.

Thank you for the correction. If they’re all listening in both states and feeling rightful outrage, this could be of great benefit to Harris. PA has 19 Electoral votes, FL has 30. If she can carry MI and WI, she’s got it. Pray for all you’re worth.

2 brothers from the north country were recently arrested for violence on J6.

One swung a table leg with protruding “nails” at police who were defending the Capitol where Stefanik was hiding in fear. Nobody in the crowd stopped him. Donald Trump calls it a day of love.

And Stefanik constantly repeats that she “Backs the Blue.”

Across the district police officers in their private lives will go out and vote for her. Over the next few days.

1) the end of civility came when John McCain was campaigning and a woman referred to Barack Obama as a Muslim (and likely worse.. as if being a member of any religion is bad) and McCain defended his opponent. I don't believe there has been an elected gQp since who has had such a spine. In fact if you listen to pos_tfnkkk's lies, you know it is just the opposite

2) READ Rachel Maddow's book Prequel... either as a primer for why hmpy trmpy should never be in office; or just so you know when he is, why we no longer have a democracy

3) people on the radical right like to say there were no wars under hmpy trmpy.. which is a twisting of the truth... But remember when hmpy trmpy was president (and if again), there was no need for wars, hmpy gave dictators exactly what they wanted.

the hmpy trading cards portray him as a muscled super hero, leaving out really he was on his knees to anyone who was more powerful than he.

I remember that John McCain moment. Especially the look on his face as it truly hit home to him what had been unleashed by picking Sarah Palin and allowing that crazy wing of the party to hold sway!

"It is the only issue in this presidential election, yet half of you are willing to risk your freedoms because groceries are too expensive." I can't judge folks for wanting to eat, but when there is the equivalent of the food desert in substantive information about global inflation due to the disruption of supply chains, how does one get a hungry person to want to see the big picture? What is their motivation to learn?

Expand full comment

That is a question schoolteachers struggle with every day. And the harsh truth is that no matter how hard you try, some people just refuse to learn. There are people right now, many of them, living in nice houses and tooling around town in big SUV’s that they park in a two car garage after picking up takeout from their favorite restaurant, that are going to vote on the fact that (although they are paying for it so apparently they can afford these things), gas and food prices are too high. They can’t or won’t recognize how good they have it.

Thank you again, Ken, for the passion, strength, and honesty....and the recognition of the grave danger and the need for all of us to resist. It is so inconceivable to me that listening to Trump himself and his Maga and Stefanik that people here in our district would support what he says he will do--that they will actually vote for him. What do they hear and not hear, what do they believe and not believe... Your last quote is exactly right: "the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil if for good people to do nothing." Probably most of us would not have the courage of Navalny, but we all should resist in all ways possible....for the preservation of our good earth, democracy, for our children, for morality. At this point those who vote for him--not just his Maga and Stefanik --are complicit... in wilful igrnorance or greed or hatred....Thanks for your strong voice and strong feeling for freedom....

Thank you, Bernice. Your response to Ken's excellent essay about Navalny's brave stance against Putin, and his ultimate sacrifice resonates with me.

I am listening to Atlantic Radio on Spotify right now. In today's program, one of the journalists is interviewing Rep. Jamie Raskin, who is talking about the Trump cult and how cults work. Raskin's focus is on Trump’s effort to rewrite history about January 6 😣. We must continue to encourage others to vote 💙.

I was not surprised that Stefanik was a speaker at the MSG hatefest, she has brought in millions of dollars for Trump and MAGA. Stefanik is right up there, cheering on and standing, thumbs up, alongside the vulgarity that we see and hear daily from Trump and the rest of his corrupt, miserable, and motley bunch of characters that we saw and heard from at that MSG rally.

I don’t consider myself an anxious person. However, my anxiety level for the upcoming weeks is off the charts. Thank you Ken for capturing the issues we will face if trump is elected. I just don’t understand how people can vote for that man! I hope people will vote for Harris/Walz and down ballot candidates that support a democratic system.

I am embarrassed and appalled that Sedition Stefanik “represents” NY 21. More than embarrassed and appalled, I am down right furious. With Miss Harvard , it is all about self interest. If that includes ignoring the Constitution and being hypocritical, that is fine too, as long as her “prize “ is achieved. She had sufficient time to appear at Trump’s Madison Square Garden despicable event but refused to debate Paula Collins at the Crandall Library in Glens Falls. She has no regard for the people she supposedly represents. We are mere pawns in her diabolical plan. My greatest wish is that those bamboozled voters would finally conclude that she is detriment to the people who live here.

I like to look at it from the other side as well and question how many people waving Gadsden and Trump flags would be willing to echo Nathan Hale and give up life for country. I realize some of the J6ers ended up with prison sentences, but can’t help but think they were totally not expecting that because they were convinced the coup would be a success.

There’s no risk on the Trump side. If you were at MSG spouting garbage you were just exercising your freedom of speech and will face no consequences from a Harris administration. If you’re Liz Cheney or a general or anyone who’s criticized the dictator wannabe that’s a little different.

With risk comes reward tho. A Harris victory rewards all who stood against fascism with enriched souls. Those who have truckled to Trump will never receive that reward. Even a Trump victory will only continue their moral descent.

I personally don’t relish times that try men’s soul and waiting for my reward in Heaven so hold onto my optimism for a Harris win.

I see yesterday that Trump felt compelled to come out and say, “I’m not a Nazi.” Has there been any similar declaration from Stefanik since she also took part in the Trump Bund 2024 gathering?

Expand full comment

How many presidential candidates have, in modern times, ever had to declare "I’m not a Nazi?’

My first thought was Christine O’Donnell declaring, “I’m not a witch.” Since she went on to lose, that may be a good omen.

Which would you rather have your kids watch: Kamala Harris’ closing argument on the mall last night or Donald Trump’s closing argument after which he has to say he’s not a Nazi?

Actually another thing the Puerto Rico comments should bring up is a reminder of how badly Trump handled hurricane Maria that hit Puerto Rico during his presidency.

That’s one of the things that gets me about all the Trump voters in those southern red states that are most susceptible to natural disasters. They’ll be lucky if there even is a FEMA in a second Trump presidency. Good luck!
