You should have gotten it by now. I will reach out to my publisher and see if he can give me an answer. Send me your address at tingleykenneth4@gmail.com and I’ll make sure you get one.
Thank God the coming of the Light is in a few days. If you want to feel worse, there’s Peter Wehner at Atlantic who writes not only about the Hamas atrocities, but the unconscionable people harassing Jews in this country for no reason other than being Jewish.
It’s probably behind a paywall. The Atlantic is worth every penny, tho.
I have some friends who went to NO, LA.. and they had your sentiment.. hated Bourbon Street loved the museum
reading
"The Light of Days: The Untold Story of Women Resistance Fighters in Hitler's Ghettos," Judy Batalion.
Hard to like the Nazi's (or even Germans to some extent) after reading this. But then one must remember we took forever to enter the war and turned away many Jewish refugees
As Joe Biden said in in first foreign policy speech: "And so — so is the message I want the world to hear today: America is back. America is back."
We certainly are back. No diplomacy. Just sending military weapons and armaments to countries around the world. The world is in flames. We send countries hundreds of billions of dollars worth of military equipment and then when they use it, we tell them to play nice.
Re recent brutalities around the world, I appreciate columnist Bret Stephens’ reference to an obituary this week for a writer who won a Pulitzer Prize winner for a story decades ago about an opera singer who collapsed and died while performing on stage. The other performers were frozen in place at this terrible development, and someone in the audience jumped up and yelled: “For God’s sake, will someone pull down the curtain.” Stephens was right on when he said yesterday the same thing about this horrible year…
Re your reference to ignorance of the Holocaust and other historical developments, part of my family is from the Rhine Valley, south of Frankfurt. I have been there several times and have come to know several non Jewish experts on Jewish history in the region. One of those experts, as he often does, took a reporter from a newspaper in nearby Mainz one time on a tour of former Jewish sites, including several old Jewish cemeteries. The young reporter asked my friend: “If there are all these Jewish cemeteries here, why aren’t there any Jews around here now?”
Ken: After reading today's column, I've put the National World War II museum on my travel list. I expect it will bring tears to my eyes and an ache to my heart. But I hope the experience brings hope as much as heartache. I have three children and one grandchild and I cannot give in to despair. Instead of erasing unpleasant (to put it far too mildly) chapters from our nation's history, we need to ensure that they are mandatory reading, in classroom and libraries. We all need to learn and reflect on the the lessons of WWI, WW2, the Civil War, the treatment of Native Americans, the continued suppression of minorities and woman, the list goes on. How can democracy possibly survive if we don't know how and why we got here in the first place?
Make sure to leave yourself three - or maybe even - four to go through the multiple buildings. There are so many amazing stories of the men and women who fought in the world. It will leave you tears and in awe.
Agree with you, Ken! I think the concept of having every person visit the National Holocaust Museum when they register to vote and / or mandatory(?) visitation by HS /college history classes to this museum along with their studies should be a critical piece in the education curriculum. Perhaps funding and national recognition awards given to schools who participate or special grants made available for schools to apply.
I've had many discussions with my daughter about whether she wants to bring a child into this world. My thoughts have always been "If you do, you will have such wonderful children, they will make the world a better place." I feel strongly that I have given the world three gifts in my children. I do worry about what my children and grandchildren will be subjected to. I've read about the Holocaust since I was a little girl. It makes me crazy when someone questions whether it actually happened. I feel the same about Sandy Hook and all of the other conspiracy theory nutty stories. We will never learn from our mistakes if no one acknowledged that they happened in the first place. Some are counting on that.
Having a child and a family can be an amazing job, but I still about them having to live a life that is reduced to nothing but survival. Yes, that is a bit bleak and cynical, but the future looks a bit bleak. Or maybe I’m just getting old.
The world is an average and currently the average leans to illiterate and evil. From pos_tefankkk making dishonest statements and supporting criminals to the fools who politically illiterate and never read (ANYTHING)...
And clearly evil has a loud voice right now. On the internet, on right-wing media. There is no fact-checking and the social media sites feel politicians have a right to lie and will not remove their posts or accounts (hmpy trmpy is a rare outlier, but he is now back and lying as much as ever, just as pos_tfnKKK is).
But moral people, with ethics, need to stand up. I believe people should call out the lies and dishonest.. point out the racism. I don't believe for a second I can change one racist who follows hmpy or pos_KK, but we must show they are wrong.
We need to bring the good, bring the average away from evil.
In the "Matrix" Agent Smith rants to Morpheus, while being tortured, about the scourge of the human race upon the planet as being depicted as a virus. One could agree with Smith but alas we still have some 'Neos' around to help stem this tide of hate and violence. Hang tuff Ken!
Miserable column. Hated it.

just wrote a column of my own

indirectly harping about how knowledge has been given up on by too many people
😞, keep funding museums, good idea for school field trips, sigh - we must try to find a way
