The constant "Make America Great Again" tirade kills me. What this Administration did the first go-round and now this current regime is destroying all that has made America great. The NEA, our National Parks, our investments in science, health, education, climate change, our libraries, the environment, endangered species, help to poor nations and their citizens and much more. Even though IMO we haven't invested enough in any of these, it's clear now that there is no investment nor interest in providing the people of our Country anything that makes America great. I still think a phone call to stefanik's office is worth it. Let her hear what we have to say even if she doesn't give a crap. I am very sad about the defunding of the arts. It's an attack on our personal emotions and the betterment of our communities.

Jimminy crickets! How can the president not make time for a daily security briefing ...no wonder he replies, "I don't know" so often

In 330BC the Persian Achaemenid Empire, it’s leadership weakened internally by scheming officials, fell to Alexander III of Macedon who marched into the glorious capital Persepolis, marveled at the riches, the history, the architecture and the art, then he got drunk and burned Persepolis to the ground.

I don’t suspect Trump and the MAGA GOP have much appreciation for art and architecture, but they do have an appreciation for burning the collective work of centuries to the ground.

Ken's comments on the beauty of his home town, Make me reflect on my Clayton NY. Four museums & an opera house with a Winter population of 1800. In the 1000 Islands, a national treasure in the same league as Niagara Falls & the Grand Canyon. 15 minutes from a foreign country, half hour from Lake Ontario, only US county bordering a Great Lake & the 19th longest river on earth, 90 minutes from the Adirondack Park, larger than Yellowstone & Yosemite combined. Of course the Navy must have known I was from up here, so they sent me to Iceland. They knew I was ready.

Your last lines gave me a chuckle…as a young Ensign I tried to console my friend who received orders to Keflavik…then the Chief Nurse told me I had orders to Naval Hospital Argentia, Newfoundland! At first I thought she said Argentina…and I thought at least it would be warmer than Iceland.

The night before I was due to fly out of McGuire AFB Bill Cosby was on The Tonight Show talking about being a Navy corpsman up in Argentia…and how cold it got with average of 40 knot winds. It was a very long cold year away from family, friends and Hometown, USA.

Yes, I was deeply affected by the Turkish grad student's comment as well. And if, after the nightmare she's been through, she can still see America's promise, we need to see clearly what we are losing. Trump, Our Elise, and the MAGA's are destroying our global presence. They are extinguishing the light our Liberty Statue holds up. Believing we can go it alone, without NATO, without emerging democracies, without Voice of America, without leadership in foreign aid, is so destructive. It will leave us far less safe, far less educated and far more immoral.

It sounds like many of these "immigrants" have more feeling for this country than the current run of politicians! Shame on them.

You’ve articulated the essence of the arts so well, Ken, and how live theater in particular creates such a powerful connection between performers and people of all ages in the audience. Every program I’ve been privileged to attend at The Wood Theater over the past 23 yrs. has moved me deeply. And the acoustic improvements make me more hopeful of hearing the dialogue in your play this summer.

When tRump took over The Kennedy Center it was a big clue that his contempt and resentments toward the world of theater, music, museums, universities, and other avenues that feed the intellect and spirit of Americans of all ages, was at high risk for his revengeful rhetoric and abuse of power. His intellectual level never progressed beyond a pre-teen… and he has never shown evidence of a soul… which could be touched by the beauty of nature…let alone the lasting impressions of a great painting, a recitation of poetry, a soloist playing the harp, or a play by school children or local senior center folks.

But those of us fortunate to live in the North Country should pay attention, and be willing to pay for the reasonably-priced tickets to maintain the spirit and the long term survival of our Wood Theater, along with The Chapman and The Hyde. It’s the right thing to do.

P.S. Grateful that last day matinee of your play was added…ordered tickets/made donation easily on their website 🙂

The pattern of paternalistic over-reaching being imprinted on the country now has been done before in the Adirondacks(1972). If left unchecked it ends with a whimper not a bang.
