Altzheimers is a terrible disease. My mother had it. She got to the point where she wouldn't eat, so they fed her at the nursing home until she could no longer swallow. It was like she was reverting back to her time in the womb, and I heard some people say that's what they do. I would imagine every person is different, but of course, I'm no doctor. For me, death was almost a relief for my mother. She wasn't living anymore, she was just existing. My heart goes out to you for what you are going through. Bella is lucky to have someone devoted to her like you are. I'm not trying to scare you Will, just prepare you.

We went through this with my mother-in-law. It sounds like a swallowing evaluation is something that would help at this point. There are foods that are difficult to swallow or maneuver in the mouth and you can get direction on which foods to avoid or add Thick-it to to make it more manageable. This was also around the time we needed medication for anxiety. It is all very confusing for them. Take care of yourself too. This disease is brutally cruel.

I think of Alzheimers on a regular basis and how it is affecting our generation, a family member, husband's of friends, neighbors;

those with the disease and their caregivers. it's a cruel test of our limits as humans. Sharing this with us is heartbreaking but oh so courageous. Thank you.

a thank you for care, honesty, love...for how you simply tell and are with what is real and true...not easy this journey, but you follow your heart to what is and what is not yet known...in your life and in all of our lives, what we are given and how we respond to what we cannot control. Thank you,Will, for this and for your work for so many years with the Post Star.

I heartily recommend the book, " The Thirty Six Hour Day". My father had Alzheimer's and I found this book a great help. I asked all of his private caregivers to read it, as well. My father was always known for his amazing sense of humor, and for the most part, he never lost this gift. For that we were most fortunate. For me, it made communicating with Dad so much easier and positive. My heart goes out to you and your family.

My heart goes out to you and your beloved, Bella. No easy way. As for the bk, I was not a fan, details/excruciating bits lasting way to long, made me nuts. It was ages ago, and I laugh at how miserable it was to finish....
