Great views on Stefanik. I call her 'photo op Elise'. No town halls, no answering to her constituents. Stefanik has sold herself to Trump! For the likes of Trump? She must be insane! Love your Front Page, Ken!
Sedition Stefanik’s self interest is her primary concern. She will do and say what ever it takes accomplish this goal. Representing NY 21 was a stepping stone and we were the victims of her nefarious plan. This Harvard graduate is not oblivious to the truth? Unfortunately, the truth is secondary. If lying is what it takes her to get where she want to go, that is exactly what she will do.
I was thinking that the repeal of the medical device tax was pretty important to the “catheter valley” business owners and workers. It was also a good thing if you are in favor of affordable health care but the business aspect is a direct impact on a huge number of her Glens Falls area constituents. The saving and strengthening of Fort Drum is also a huge constituent benefit. I selfishly appreciate the money that went into wildlife/environmental studies on the property but that is a drop in the bucket to what has been done there and the benefit to the area. I do wish she (and to be fair, most of her peers as well) would make an effort to cultivate a stronger day to day relationship with the local papers throughout the district. I miss the Gerry Solomon sort of weekly interaction.
I think it is important to point out that Democratic and Republicans who ran for this seat have been big supporters of Fort Drum, including Tedra Cobb. The Pentagon has been calling for another round of base closure for years because they don’t need the bases in the modern military. When I asked Cobb once if the military should decide which bases to keep or stay open, she refused to go down that road because it is political suicide to say anything about Fort Drum. I believe the same is true of the medical device tax. Both Dems and GOP in this region were in favor of getting rid of it. I was always skeptical that the tax was really going to impact jobs for the big players. They never proved to me that jobs would be lost. It is what all corporations say when faced with new taxes. I’d go a step further about her relationships with local media. She went out of her to go this alone and have little or anything to do with the local media. That strategy seems to have served her well in recent times. My overall point, is Rep. Stefanik hasn’t accomplished anything that probably any congressperson from either party could have done.
Ok, sorry. I guess I misinterpreted the theme. It was not that she hasn’t done constituent things just that she hasn’t done other than what anyone we elected would have done. I do find the modern military re: bases an interesting comment. My perspective is admittedly rather narrow on the bases, more environmental than military. Maybe you could make that a future blog topic.
I don’t think you were wrong on the theme, I wondered why so many people were so passionate about supporting her when I haven’t seen any great new ideas that have a made a difference locally. The base closure issue is fascinating because any congressperson with a military base in their district will fight not to let the military decide if it needs it. It is essentially a jobs program for many districts.
I can pinpoint the precise time when we lost her. It was the day that trump was at the podium and said of Stefanick 'now, there's a rising star right there'. At that point I turned to my wife and said, 'well, we lost her now'. As soon as trump pet her a tiny bit, that was it. Being a woman, she loves it when people notice her. For trump the president to notice her, well, that carries a lot of weight with Elise. NY didn't matter anymore. It's all about what she can do for trump now.

Doesn’t meet with any of the newspapers anymore either. I doubt she will even campaign in the district in 2022.

Well said.
