Ken, your righteous indignation not withstanding, this all began with Ronald Reagan's systematic attack on the working middle class. His denigration of the unions, weakening of the social safety net, obliteration of necessary regulations...especially of the banking community, and tax cuts targeted at the most prosperous amongst us, have all led us to this point. The fact that he was more courteous and less toxic than Trump, made him all the more dangerous. In all fairness, I would be remiss if I overlooked Clinton's contribution to the decline of the working class. I have been a moderate democratic for these past 40 years, and, curiously enough, still am.

That’s why I commend the man (WIll Fowler?) who tried to get 2500 signatures (he did get 1400) to try to get the ARCC to prevent her participating in something with reference to them a few months ago.

Couldn't agree more Ken, well said. Hoping for a robust but moderate candidate to run against Stefanik next year. We'll also have to see how redistricting will affect things.

I've been mostly an independent voter over the years leaning somewhat conservative, and the change in the Republican party over the past few years is disgusting to me. Liz Cheney and a few other Republicans are real heroes in my mind, and there should be more like them that speak truth to power.

I’m afraid the RepublicanParty is abhorrent to the notion of speaking “truth to power”. For decades they have acquiesced to “power”. Power is their base; power has paid their bills, and has ensconced itself by greasing the palms of those who were in support of “Citizens United”.

The NY Republican Party abandoned me a long time ago when they decided to supplant my primary vote with their hand-picked stooge, John Sweeney.

Excellent letter and hopefully NYS can turn this around. I certainly applaud Liz Chaney for her honesty . I have no time for liars .

so, Ken when a stefanik was doing what you thought you wanted you supported her; when she turned against the very locals who supported her, you stopped. well...at least you stopped which is more than can be said of the rest who still support her and will in the next election.. The problem of ignorant people trying to run gov't has always been a problem . In the early aRepublic, it was assumed by the Founders that the massesOf ignorant people would defer to them. For a while they did. Then they got tired of experts. Now granted, a large number of the zFounders were geniuses and extremely well educated. But the leaders who followed them were often also bright and well educated. But not having the luster of the Founders were ignored by huge numbers of the ill-educated. They were just 'experts" And so it goes now. They wouldn't go to a non-doctor for cancer but they would vote for someone who 'is fun to have a beer with.'

I don’t recall a time when I ever personally supported her. Some of her positions I agreed with in the early years, but certainly not recently.

Very. good to know. That is why i suggested you run against her. A Democrat doesn't stand a chance since all Dems despise Mr. Trump who knows that he, literally, is a traitor, etc. You on the other hand, are or were a a Republican, You would be an amazing improvement to Stefanik. Give it some thought.
