I agree 100 percent and when I was at Post-Star we had just such a policy.

Wanted to read the Churchill article, but was blocked by a paywall. I don't know if the T-U has a "gift" option for sharing articles like some of the bigger papers do, but that's a better way to let people who aren't subscribers read an occasional article.

After reading about Stefanik's war chest, I'd ask folks to read the entire article. So many donations are from out of state. Stefanik will flood the airwaves with lies and try to "buy" her seat again!! She is all in on The Big Lie, how disgraceful! When does she ever meet face to face with NY21 residents. But, travels to bow down to Trump!

This has been her pattern in the past.

Elies has been doing this for years. Spring 2020 she voted against a multi appropriation bill, including agriculture, rural development, military construction and State Department Security. I didn't bother to call in order to be lied to, nor was there any statement. Within the bill was a restriction of redirecting funds toward the failed campaign promise, as funds for constructing military family housing (and other areas) had been the previous year.

It is Friday, January 28, 2022. Fellow citizens, 146 insurrectionists sit in Congress. This woman is a traitor to the United States of America. Her name is Rep. Elise Stefanik Rep NY 21. 286 days until November 8, 2022.

We need to replace her.

It seems to me Stefanik is just going for the power. She is a purported of The Big Lie.

Just to add another voice to the very good responses to your Front Page: I think her justification about "automatically enrolling someone" is part of the strange responses to mandates and vaccination as infringing on someone's freedom--the right wing's dislike of government acting for the good of the people, seeing "freedom" apart from community good. An example of their "reasoning" is Senator Ron Johnson's dislike of the child tax credit: "People decide to have families and become parents. That's something they need to consider when they make a choice. I've never really felt it was society's responsibility to take care of other people's children." (As an aside, the rigorous Republican state action against women's right to "choose" would effectively remove choice.") It's a question of "care"--for people, for the environment, for government's role "for the people."

The Post Star, as good reporting should, did mention other veteran bills stefanik had supported.

The other article about how Stefanik has moved to the extreme right was not news but very newsworthy, particularly for those who proudly say "I am Republican," not realizing how right wing their party had become. And how dangerous in terms of their denial of the 2020 election for Biden, how most, including stefanik, support the lie that Trump won despite all evidence, will not vote for the Voting Rights Act, and are complicit in allowing autocratic power to have power.

Totally concur Bernice, midway through the preamble is a 4 word sequence that is seldom quoted and even less often mentioned that should have grave impact on the lives of the American people, I quote them here "promote the general Welfare". The interpretation of these words and what the writers meant is limitless.

thank you, David, yes: promote the general welfare.

Nice try, I tried the same agreement once. The “general welfare” clause appears in two places in U.S. Constitution. You can Google “general welfare” or go to Wikipedia and enter “general welfare clause” in the search box. Then follow the links and see where they lead you

If you see where I’m coming from explain it to me, bet you can’t. Or you can fall back on the old tactic of criticizing where the argument is coming from (the person) and not respond to the validity of what is said. When all else fails It’s one of methods used by both sides in the circus know as politics. So, explain inquiring trolls want to know.

If Ron Johnsons reasoning is in error why then is its society's responsibility to provide care for as he puts it " other people's children"?

Excellent work by North Country Public Radio and The Post-Star. But the question remains: who among Elusive Elise Stefanik's supporters will have read this? Of those who have, who will have excused out of hand what she did? Writing the truth and then having it change her supporters' minds has become our nightmare.
