The UN may have assisted poor countries in need, however bias against Israel and double standards has been appalling. I hope she and other nations balance this bias and call out hypocrisy other countries who continually commit genocide to their own people as Assad and Sudan, and many African countries continually do.

This is also my thought

BUT, with the understanding under hmpy trmpedo/pos_tfnKKK the last time and likely this time = the USA lost its status as a leader

AND on the world stage, pos_tfnKKK is barely a better seat-filler than Ivanka was (which is a pretty low bar)

Pretty sure Ivanka was never at UN.

But Israel is committing genocide...

How? Israeli soldiers are Christian, Arabs, Druze…all fighting terrorists who are trying to destroy Israel…. What would you do if terrorists raped, kidnapped, killed and burned your family? Would you not defend yourself, family and community? Genocide is not happening… Hamas has placed weapons and hostages within schools, hospitals, residences and other vulnerable areas. Blame Hamas, Yemen, Sudan and Assad for genocide, not Israel! What army do you know that sends leaflets and announcements in a country’s language for citizens to get out of harms way? Did we or Europe do that in WWll? Vietnam? Desert storm? Afghanistan? Please stop using words you’ve heard from the misinformed incorrectly!

Thanks, Jill, for telling the truth about the diabolical Hamas strategy of placing its war assets under schools and hospitals. Or in impenetrable tunnels - 300+ miles of them! What to do about all this? Kill it before it kills you. Is that genocide? In a way, it is, but it is compelled by Hamas. Perhaps "defense" might be a more accurate description than "genocide. The IDF isn't killing Gazans because they're Gazans, but because they are tragically hidden among their terrorist "leaders."

“Innocent” Palestinians were hiding hostages young and old; women and children, in their basements and closets in their homes…. Think all who scream genocide, what would you do?

It's a bit hypocritical to demand more accountability for human rights abuses committed by non-white regimes and no accountability for those committed by regimes run largely by European descendants.

Are you putting words in my mouth? I demand equal accountability for domestic terrorists or international ones, no matter color, race, religion or creed.

Your original post did NOT demand equal accountability. You attacked criticism of Israel's human rights abuses and demanded that regimes in non-white countries be criticized. If you do in fact demand equal accountability, I accept your clarification.

The idea that Stefanik will make a positive contribution of any sort is a laugh. Forget it. She’s only interested in herself and destruction of anything that doesn’t benefit herself.

Yeah, "she will have to be a diplomat and a stateswoman in an administration that does not value those skills." Maybe she is busy studying the UN, its mission, and its history. She should read "The Declaration of Human Rights." She should visit a refugee camp or two or three. She should actually speak with Palestinians. She will have to do catch-up on Russia, China, India, Africa, and South America. She will need to listen to Europeans. A problem is that she no longer has a constituency, except for the man pretending to be our president. She is Catholic, I think, so maybe she should listen to the Pope, and review the history of Catholic Social Teachings. I wonder if she will talk with Nikki Haley.

I don't expect anything positive coming from Elise, considering her contempt for that institution and her past stances and remarks. She will align herself with Trump allies and their interests. Russia/Putin, Israel/Netanyahu, Saudi Arabia/MBS, Hungary/Orban just to name a few and vote accordingly to support them regardless of any atrocities or anti-democratic actions from them. Then of course, she'll be living in a taxpayer-funded penthouse in a city that she has trashed repeatedly.

Unfortunately, Stefanik is on record with her plan to permanently defund the UN Relief and Works Agency UNRWA. https://stefanik.house.gov/2024/2/stefanik-jackson-introduce-bill-to-halt-funds-to-unrwa For that reason, though I would love another go at running for Congress, I maintain a glimmer of hope that the plan to install her as UN Ambassador will be diverted.

The appointment of Stefanik ass the US Ambassador to the United Nations is just one more way for Trump to dismantling world order. Miss Harvard has no regard for tradition or for the United States standing in the world. Her loyalty is not to our country but to the diabolical sociopathic narcissist. Her transition from the supposed moderate to the MAGA screaming banshee unfolded before our eyes. I am holding my breath . She will no doubt promote chaos and instability just like the “good” soldier she has become.

Oh how I wish you wouldn't have referenced this with 'soldier'

One of my main takeaways with pos_tfnKKK is how she fooled so many that she was supportive of the military/veterans.. when she worked in the opposite direction.

A good example her silence when hmpy trmpy stole highly classified documents and shared them with guests at mar a lardo.. which there is some indication it put soldiers in grave danger

Thanks for the well-researched chronology of the UN’s origins and accomplishments, and its capacity for interpreting/intervening in global crises. While no organization has the money/resources to intervene in the myriad of existing human tragedies, it’s about integrity, truthfulness and transparency at the “top” that determines confidence, as well as $$$ contributions.

While those leadership traits don’t represent the Trump dynasty and their tsar-like tactics of threats/actual retaliation… along with the daily dump of alternative facts which MAGA fans swallow like Kool-aid…our remaining allies and our adversaries have a more refined “fraud-detector” sniff-test for imposters and puppets like Stefanik. She will not be getting any standing ovations when she stands up at the UN pulpit. Those who stand may start pivoting and walking out on her Trump manifestos.

Remember pos_tfnKKK is driven by greed and the desire for power.. she has lied numerous times for this cause and for hmpy trmPEDOphile... it is how she will be at the UN

You correctly pointed the finger at China and Russia as 'superpowers misbehave' but remember the United States also misbehaves. As in their current support for Israel's pactice of genocide in Gaza.

The United Nations allows a member country attacking another member country, in direct contravention of it's charter, to sit on the Security Council with veto power. This veto power prevents the UN from taking any action under Article 51. The first seven words of Article 51, "Nothing in the present Charter shall impair," clearly show that reform of the charter is needed, precisely because of this atrocity being able to continue unabated That's all you need to know about the effectiveness of the UN. Elies was placed there to continue ineptitude. The only benefit of that is that she is gone from NY21, hopefully for good.

What is the Press Act bill designation? Regarding the UN, it does need to avoid political affiliations such as HAMAS in Gaza. In addition, how can aggressors such as Russia still serve on the Security Council with its veto policy?
