No one need a “raging case” of anything to call Trump a convicted felon.

Expand full comment

And, conversely, if Trump’s appeals all fail, will the members of the Trump Cult, like our Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, continue to disparage our justice system by falsely claiming it was a corrupt trial?

And how sad is that? Says so much about the state our nation’s “Grand Old Party”. How far they have fallen.

Simply put he already is prohibited from operating businesses or CHARITIES in NY. Takes a “special” kinda guy to steal from a charity, operate a fake College and bankrupt a CASINO LOL

Congratulations to DA Alvin Bragg. The Manhattan District Attorney ran for Office in 2021 promising to prosecute and convict, Donald Trump or members of Trump’s family. Bragg has fulfilled his campaign promise.

The newspaper’s headlines portray this a story about hush money and porn star Stormy Daniels. Titillating headlines. Tawdry. The reality is this is a story about falsifying business records. Not as exciting.

The trial did expose the unethical practice of newspaper businesses killing stories that are unflattering to their friends. Catch and kill is a surreptitious technique employed by newspapers and media outlets to prevent an individual from publicly revealing information damaging to a third party.

Both sides are digging in hard. If you thought we were divided before, this is only gonna raise the level of division and animosity between the sides.

I need to respond to the belief that killing story for cash is a normal newspaper activity. This is grossly inaccurate. While it may be part of the business model for tabloid rags and gossip sheets - that is not journalism in any sense of the word - it has never and will never be part of what legitimate newspapers do. NEVER!!!!

Thanks Ken

I think it took courage to be a juror on this case. It also took/takes courage to be the judge considering the gravity and threats surrounding the trial, conviction and sentencing. We thank them for their service.

Consider the constant stream of accusations by the former president and threats against him and his family, I think you are right. There are still people willing to stand up for the right of law. News outlets that have characterized it otherwise should not be part of the conversations.

The irony of a Manhattan jury.

Trump was born and raised in one of New York City's "outer boroughs" - Queens. His father's real estate business centered in the outer boroughs, as well. Trump the younger always envied the big leagues in NYC real estate, and he successfully expanded his father's real estate holdings into the big time - Manhattan. And that's where Trump the younger resided for most of his life, making news from time to time in NYC's tabloids read by everyday people.

And it was the very same everyday people in Manhattan who judged Trump a criminal felon.

I will disagree with you Ken about whether or not Alito should recuse himself.

When my husband was on Active Duty I knew, as a spouse, I could not put any political signs in our yard. I was free to work for any campaign or political party but could not, under any circumstances, make my position known by having a yard sign. If I would have done that, someone could have reported our house to my husband’s commander or the base commander and my husband would have been called in to explain why he had that in his yard. If he would have said, “My wife did it. She has strong views.” He would have been told in no uncertain terms that it was his responsibility to control his dependents and to insure that policies/regulations were followed. Now imagine if I wanted to fly the inverted American Flag?

Also, according to the NYTimes article, “There are some differences: For instance, the justice told Fox News that his wife hoisted the flag in response to Ms. Baden’s vulgar insult. A text message and the police call — corroborated by Fairfax County authorities — indicate, however, that the name-calling took place on Feb. 15, weeks after the inverted flag was taken down.” So to blame it on a neighborhood dispute was in fact false.

So, according to this logic an Active Duty Military member’s family should be held to a higher standard than a Supreme Court Justice’s family? I don’t think so. We all know what the standards are as they pertain to our or our spouses work. We should abide by them and if we don’t we should all be held to the same standards.

I think your response is the norm among people who understand ethics and the appearance of impropriety. I often felt that was an editor of a newspaper.

When I heard yesterday that the jury had reached a verdict, my stomach turned into a knot. Would Trump be found guilty on all or some of the charges or would he be acquitted or would there be a hung jury and a mistrial declared?

Yes, I was happy that the jurors followed the evidence & the rule of law to reach their decision.

Yes, I was not surprised though that Elise Stefanik almost immediately issued a statement attacking everything that makes America, well America.

Twelve men and women. All strangers when they were called to their civil duty, from different backgrounds and political leanings. All twelve, in the end, believed the evidence & facts presented before them. All twelve agreed that Donald J. Trump, an American citizen, a former POTUS, and a candidate for that office did violate the laws of the State of New York. All twelve of them reached their verdict of guilty on all counts. Beyond a reasonable doubt.

To me, if not to Stefanik, is what America is all about.

Stefanik though, believes that if elections or jury verdicts do not go the way she wants, it's all rigged and corrupt.

That is sad.

I suspect she does not really believe that, but she will say it if enables her to obtain more power. That is perhaps more despicable.

Well said this morning...Our Democratic Republic is sometimes VERY MESSY....and it somehow continues to work!!! Just as January 6 did NOT topple our government...the tRump indictments and conviction show our democracy working. Stefanik will run out of "steam" soon enough, and there will be someone who can topple her...not in this next election, but it will happen. Thank you again, for continuing to be the "voice of reason" during these crazy times.

Not just 12 jurors, but 12 NYers came to a unanimous decision. 😅

It’s amazing to watch Republicans continue to follow Donald Trump down a moral sinkhole that seems to have no bottom. I’m optimistic that the majority of Americans are not willing to take that ride.

I believe it’s Joe Seeman, not Seaman. Feel free to blame spellcheck.

While it was great to see a unanimous jury on all 34 counts, the damage now being done by so many REP surrogates and big Wall Street money guys is that they are calling it a hoax, and abuse of the legal system which is undermining the legal institutions of our country. The SCOTUS delay on the immunity issue and the Florida trial on indefinite hold are terribly damaging and IMO Trump should be barred from running for higher office but that's not how it works. Steve Schwarzman and Bill Ackman on Wall Street are leaning toward supporting Trump. Talk about money grubbing, flip flopping, billionaire hypocrites, most of these A-holes were done with Trump and backed DeSantis and Haley...now both in the dustbin and rear view mirror. Disgusting examples of what has happened to our country. Don't kid yourself, and remember the Golden Rule of Business (not the one you learned at church school). That rule is: The man with all the gold makes all the rules!

Sadly these folks drive around with FCKk in full display on their vehicles or at their houses. When you drive into HF you can’t miss the FKKKK Joe Biden “and you too if you voted for him” hanging proudly in front of a business at their main intersection. And they wonder why young people are leaving the area
