Very nice use of Thomas Jefferson’s words! Thank you. On a slightly different subject, I have seen reference to the fact that demonstrations opposing the Big BS Bill’s enactment are being organized to take place on July 7th in front of Republican Congresspeople’s offices. I haven’t seen anything about this in relation to Stefanik or Glens Falls. Do you know of any such plan up here, or whom I might contact to find out? Thanks again.

We retired folk will feel the cuts in Medicare. 500 Billion over the next 8 years. There isn't a person in this Country that won't feel this disgusting legislation. Can you imagine what we are going to see? 10,000 masked ICE agents - with limited or zero oversight? Can you imagine the horrible treatment of migrants in these concentration camps? What happens after all the immigrants are detained, deported or worse? Do these camps close? Does the money get reappropriated to the social safety nets? Rumors are already flying about the crackdown on places like this, Substack. I read yesterday that Stephen Miller is suing the LA Dodgers for prohibiting ICE on their property and DEI concerns. Will the MAGA faithful get pissed off enough when any of their favorite sports heroes get rounded up and detained? We are here. A place where fascism was never going to happen, it only happens over there we said. Now, what in hell are we going to do about it?

I remember during MLB spring training this year when the baseball commissioner (Rob Manfred?) visited Trumpty Dumpty at the White House. I was puzzled at first since the guy should be too busy running a multi-billion-dollar business to hit D.C. politics. Then it dawned on me, Manfred was there on bended knee (at least in private) to probably beg Trumpty Dumpty not to interfere with the international players coming back to the U.S. for the preseason camp and games. Imagine what would happen to MLB if all those great stars from other countries were denied entry? Or if the foreign-born players now living in the U.S. were to be rounded up and deported? And don't forget the teams that have to cross into Canada to play the Toronto Blue Jays during the season (after the Yankees got swept by Toronto this week, I was wishing the team wasn't allowed into Canada. LOL). Everyone bows at the altar of his highness.

It's disgusting - this maltreatment of human beings (and never mind the negative environmental impact) will be everlasting. They have solved the "border problem" so there isn't that to fear monger about anymore, so they are rounding up all migrants/immigrants no matter their status or whether or not they have committed any serious crimes. They are selling the American People a lie and 30% believe it. We are witnessing our Government commit unconstitutional crimes against humanity and future generations will ask, didn't we stop it?

In the time I have been receiving Social Security payments, never have I received an email blast, the likes of which I received last night. SSA is another propaganda machine of this cruel administration.

Excerpts:

"Social Security Applauds Passage of Legislation Providing Historic Tax Relief for Seniors"

"The Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans."

"Big, Beautiful Bill......right out of Trump's mouth.

So my grandchildren's grandchildren will be paying off the deficit we wrack up today. This is what happens when you fire career public servants and replace them with unqualified loyalists.

Don't hate me, but Social Security doesn't communicate with its recipients by email, so I'd venture an educated guess that it's probably from some MAGA organization since our email addresses are sold on the black market. There was a SS scam email going around several weeks ago purportedly from the actual federal agency that others also got and shared on social media. So I went to SS website and first thing was an alert that the nationwide emails were a scam and alleging the senders either wanted personal information or clicking on the email would release malware. All of my real SS correspondence has been by snail mail.

Mea culpa, chriss, my bad. Please, forgive me. You are correct with receiving that Social Security email as I've since read a reliable news source that the message was indeed sent out to many SS soon-to-be and actual recipients. Talk about chutzpah by the tRump acolyte appointed to head up the agency. Disgusting. Everything they say and do, believe the opposite.

I am just sickened by all of this. I have few words that haven't already been expressed. Power is in the hands of the ignorant, cruel and inhumane. These people are more than dictators and autocrats, we are living in a world of organized crime; threats, money flowing into the dirty hands of those who would kidnap, abduct, imprison and kill innocent people. History and the essence of our representative democracy is of absolutely no concern of those who are so terribly guilty. They understand nothing but power and money.

It’s classic projection. Trump deranges his devotees, then they believe those who haven’t been demented are deranged. It’s sad, really.

Our own representative, Stefanik, demonstrates the work of projection by accusing good, decent people of antisemitism even as Trump regularly provides personal displays of antisemitism - just in the last day or so talking about certain bankers acting as “shylocks.”

Is it ironic or moronic that Trumpty Dumpty, his crackerjack agency heads and their useless MAGAts accuse their "enemies" of being anti-Semitic when the MAGA base is full of Jewish haters, not to mention tRump himself. Just another example of the crud deflecting their actual hate for Jews. And it's led by the biggest crybaby StefaniQ, who believes everyone else is anti-Semitic while she's nothing but a lily-White Christian Nationalist. And real Jews actually fall for it.

It's more a case of BDS on the MAGAts part. No matter what form of media followed, there's always a bunch of contrarians who blame all the ills on Joe Biden, even when the topic discussed has nothing to do with him. Poor excuse for discussion, lousy excuse for human beings/Americans.

Ken, in the last 12 months I've had over 20 anti-Trump letters printed in the Watertown TIMES & 1000 Island SUN. Since April, seven anti-Trump rallies, mostly with hundreds of local Jefferson County people, one with 1000. This format's not large enough for my next accusation of Trump's genocide of brown immigrants. Will forward a letter sent to several sources, to your email address. Please let me know whether that's an acceptable route.

King George III had more obstacles than Trump: the often dangerous Atlantic Ocean (which nearly killed this 18 year old Naval Reservist in 1963). East Coast colonial forests larger than any in Britain. Rebel snipers behind trees & rocks to pick off Indian scouts & officers on horseback, leaving large infantry units lost in the woods. Worse winter weather than Britain.

Trump has armies, navies, air forces, armed civilian employees (ICE, FBI, ATF, etc.), a majority Congress fearful of being primaried, & a Supreme Court he could impeach & remove, as has been done before (Abe Fortas, I believe).

The Trump and Republican "One Big Beautiful Bill" (OBBB) will hurt the majority of Americans, retired or not, with health plans or not, with savings or not. Medicare and Social Security recipients will be indirectly impacted and this OBBB will hasten both programs insolvency.

Yesterday, in "celebrating" the passage of the OBBB in Iowa, Trump at a rally said how he hates Democrats because they hate him and America and the crowd cheered. Stefanik and her spokesperson have said pretty much the same thing in some of their past tweets and statements.

The sheer hate, corruption and cruelty that permeates throughout today's Republican Party and within MAGA will only embolden them to find new ways to implement their twisted caustic ideology on everyone by whatever means they can find.

Nice. We will likely get to vote for/against Elise twice in November. She is the likely candidate for Governor and I'm pretty sure she'd also run for her Congressional seat...is that legal? I hope not, because it would be nice to vote her completely out of politics on the Governor's line.

I believe she would have to give up the House seat. It would certainly display a lack of confidence not to even if it was legal.

Don't forget she can't run for either office without her Pope's blessing! Don't want to endanger the House majority but the opportunity to govern NYS is such a temptation. Naturally, she'd be equally useless as governor since Dems hold veto-proof majorities in state Assembly and Senate. Common sense (I'm too lazy to look it up right now) says StefaniQ can't run for both positions in event she won both (quick, get me some Listerine). I suppose tRump could always nominate her for U.N. ambassador ....... oh, no, wait, that's already been tried.

I wasn’t going to bother looking either and that was exactly my logic. If, God forbid, she won both she’d get to choose one? Can’t imagine having to listen to the constant lies and vitriol as governor.

With luck the House majority swings to the Dems no matter what she does. With more luck Trump is in some sense gone. There was so much concern about Biden’s cognitive abilities and this guy’s a blithering moron. His brain is already 86ed.

Thanks for your.excellent piece on this Fourth of July. I had j finished my annual reading of the Declaration just prior to my reading of today’s Front Page. Your piece is very timely and right on since most people (I realize I am being judgmental) never move beyond the opening words of the second paragraph of the Declaration, and have no idea of what is contained in the bulk of the document.

As to the vote on “the big ugly budget bill,” I would, with all due respect, take issue with your comment that those of us who are older and retired, and who have saved and planned ahead, will not be affected by the Medicaid portion of the bill. We will be affected. The bill will affect the availability and quality of health care for all. It will affect those of us who care for the health and wellbeing of all our sisters and brothers—our fellow human beings. It will affect our children and grandchildren. So it will affect us, too!

Thanks all that you and Will do through The Front Page—the stimulation and challenges you provide.
