Ken, I tried to do this and in this case, the response is best expressed in Latin: nulla est comparatio. There is no comparison.

Joe and Kamala are giving a massive tutorial on statesmanship. And a stark reminder of how far so many have fallen. It heartens these cynical old bones. 🦴

Interestingly, his comments to me included a warning of a police visit because I explained to him that Kamala's diplomatic duties occurred in the South American countries that were losing citizens to immigration. He said that explanation was insulting to him and that explanation is actionable by a visit from the police. It appears he is so gone that any disagreement it cause for arrest.

How does one go directly from college, without even a terminal degree and without any previous real job history or practical real world experience , directly into the West Wing ? Did someone say DEI hire ???

When Kamala Harris was chosen to run as VP with now President Biden, I read her book, The Truths we Hold, an American Journey. A great book which I recommend. I was def impressed - with her upbringing, her values, her goals , her accomplishments, her determination . Throughout her career, She saw problems and attacked them to accomplish what was in the best interest of the people of California . She stood up to corporations and put them in their place. I was impressed and admit was disappointed that I did not see that energy as VP. But the role of VP has always kinda been “ in the background”. In the short time ( this week) that she has been campaigning to finalize her candidacy for president , I see the energy , drive, and determination that I suspected she possessed. So I am encouraged. We now have a candidate who will work hard to tackle problems and correct for the benefit of ALL AMERICANS, not just the privileged, entitled. If we really care about the future of our country, let’s get behind a candidate who will put country before title and before ego and arrogance

What I noticed about her previous record. - and something we really need now - is her ability to attack problems with new ideas. Holding parents responsible for their child's truancy was not popular, but it was innovative. If she can provide fresh new ideas to make our country better that will be refreshing.

Her role, FYI, was not to deal directly with the wall that Trump not only failed to build but what was built was so porous that it let all sorts of people in while he was in office. Funny how that isn’t mentioned when he bitches about Biden and Harris. Not to mention that the long months of bipartisan negotiation concerning the border came to an agreement by both sides, the fact that they were ready to sign, and Trump called in to tell them not to because it would give credit to Biden. Trump wanted to keep the issue alive because that’s the red meat you kids will drool over.

Kamala Harris’s role was primarily to conduct international diplomacy with South American governments to see what could and should be done in those countries to keep their people home.

The job of a VP is to remain out of the limelight, learn, and prepare to do the President’s job should something happen to him/her and do the job assigned. Tell us what Pence ever did but lick Trump’s boots and hindquarters.

For someone allegedly unable to “speak intelligently,” her record speaks for itself. You merely need to look it up. Because you know absolutely nothing about anything you’ve said, doing that research may just be too heavy a lift for you.

Holding parents responsible for their children is not only daunting and masterful, it works, then and now, in Glens Falls!

Expand full comment

Exactly! I've always believed this is the way to approach these issues because they ARE responsible.

Expand full comment

I thought hard about working parents who may not be able to spend much time with their children, before I wrote my opinion about responsibility. But then I thought about teaching and providing examples of proper behavior, ethics and ideological principles even to very young children and I realized, yes, they are to be held responsible even as our children are battered by an onslaught of examples of bad behavior on television, in movies and on news broadcasts. Note that no parents were ever incarcerated, supporting the idea that the law works!

I believe that we did not see a lot of her work as VP as much of it was behind closed drawers. She has several speeches on YouTube well worth the watch.

I think she’d definitely get a cabinet position. It’s funny looking at what a bad choice Vance appears to be and thinking Stefanik would almost certainly have been better. I don’t like her, but I feel that’s true.

Don’t know if it’s because Trump was bribed to take JD or because he just wouldn’t choose a woman. I guess if Elise had been taken she would’ve looked like a DEI hire, tho.

When Harris was running in the primaries for president, she was not one of my top choices. Neither was Biden, for that matter. Of course I ended up voting for him anyway because the alternative was too awful. I figured he would be boring and competent. I was ready for boring and competent! I also figured he picked her as his running mate to check a few boxes to satisfy various constituencies. She stayed in the background mostly, not making waves, doing whatever it is that vice presidents do. When it became evident that Biden’s bid for reelection was not picking up the necessary steam I thought maybe many people felt, as I did, that his age meant she might become president through his illness or death and I just didn’t know enough about her to be enthusiastic about her. It would have been good if during the four years of his presidency someone had emerged as the standard bearer, ready to take over and lead, and let Biden bow out gracefully having righted the ship, but no matter what I still was going to vote for Biden because I think he’s done a great job, and I figured his experience and ability to have smart people around him would make up for his lack of vigor. (Trump is not far behind in age. He is also at that point in his life where incapacitating illness or sudden death is not totally unexpected. Does ANYONE think JD Vance of all people has anywhere near the qualifications to become president at a moment’s notice? Think about that!)

When Biden made his announcement I was surprised. but not shocked. The scenario that had been taking place has reminded me a lot of what takes place when a family decides an elder should stop driving because they just don’t have the reaction time and eyesight to be safe. It takes some convincing, and there usually is a moment when the elder person comes up against a hard, unmistakable reality. In my neighbor’s case it was hitting the gas instead of the brake and driving into the wall at Stewarts. In my mom’s case it was when she was a passenger in my car and I slammed on my brakes and she yelled “What are you stopping for?” and I answered, “Because there’s a deer in the middle of the road,” which she had not noticed. In Biden’s case I think it was his Covid infection. I imagine at 80 even a mild one takes it out of you. I get weary at 62!

I am thrilled to discover that in the 4 years since 2020, Kamala Harris, like a good back-up quarterback, spent her time listening, watching and learning from a good teacher, and is now ready and able to take over and win the Super Bowl. It’s like when Tom Brady stepped in for Drew Bledsoe. She impressed me with her first speech after being endorsed by Biden. She has continued to impress me and apparently many others as well. The torch has been passed. I’m also impressed by her previous achievements, which I hadn’t known in such detail, so thank you for this comparison. It really shows Stefanik in the proper light.

I believe Nancy Pelosi gets a lot of credit for President Biden stepping away from the ticket. He’s going to get so much love at the convention and it’s going to get such incredible ratings that Donold Trump is going to lose what little mind he has left. I’d put money on Beyoncé being there to sing Freedom. I mean, hey she’s not Kid Rock but … 😉

I thought Kamala would be okay against Trump. Didn’t expect her to be a rock star, er brat. Just so much pent up demand for someone other than Trump or Biden. Hopefully between her introduction to the race and the convention bounce she can ride the wave until November. I hear people complain that Biden took so long to back away, but to me it seemed perfect. The Republican ticket was locked in and there’s not too much or too little time until the election. Really the sweet spot. If I could believe Dems were more clever I’d think it was planned. Maybe hanging with NeverTrump Republicans is paying off.

Someone I follow shared this yesterday. It’s not political. It’s just beautiful.

My dad’s Parkinson’s became physically debilitating when he was in his mid 80’s. He insisted he could still drive. I rode with him and he was surprisingly okay, but he lived on a busy 55mph highway. I told him I was fine with him driving and killing himself in an accident, but I would have a hard time dealing with it if he caused an accident that killed a family with young children.

He kept his car, he kept his keys, but he stopped driving. He lived another 6 years or so and was mentally fit nearly to the end.

I think Biden was in a sort of similar position, metaphorically.

I expected him to drop out.

I do not understand the use of DEI as a negative! The three words it encompasses are just exactly what this country really should be all about. I wish some of the interviews with individual Trump supporters could be asked...."what does DEI mean?" It's laughable that anyone could really BE against it if they know what it means!

I think because the VP’s job has always been more of a background job of breaking ties in the Senate and stepping up if needed to fill the Presidency, it has never really been reported what a VP does. But Kamala Harris has been busy. She has accomplished a lot during the past 3.5 years. It is unfortunate that a woman is always held to a higher standard than a man and a woman of color to an even higher standard. Think about that, why is it? For your listening enjoyment, what VP Harris has been doing..

There is no comparison between VP Kamala Harris and Elise Stefanik.

Has anyone heard Elise laugh? Oh, she smiles at closely controlled events for photo ops and that are usually closed to the press. When was the last time Elise met with her constituents and not only her donor crowd? Elise's fellow Republicans have been told to not attack VP Harris that would imply racism. Yet, we have seen it disguised as "DEI" by candidates that Elise has endorsed. Stefanik, Trump and Vance get votes with messaging lies, fear mongering, division and hate.. Vice President Harris will gain votes with a message of hope, freedom and, yes, laughter.

It has been a long time since Stefanik has had an open, publicized town hall in the Glens Falls region.

Or anywhere in her district. She is afraid of getting unfiltered questions from her constituents, that's why she's fallen back and relies on her "tele-town halls" where a staff member (campaign staff?) interrogates you and unless it's a friendly question, you're blocked from asking Elise anything.

When Elise was originally running for her Congressional seat, with her Virginia license plates, she stated that she would only run and serve for 5 terms. This is number 6 coming up. Why is she not being asked about this? Maybe Mark Frost at The Chronicle , with his adoration of Elise, could get the answer.
