I have watched 60 Minutes for years, and it is definitely a highly respected program. This BS with trump has GOT to stop!!! If it's the truth, he wants to eliminate it. ANYONE who supports this piece of human garbage is no better.

Re the sad “flood the zone” attacks on PBS and NPR, the criticisms of those esteemed organizations have evolved over the decades as politics and news have become more polarized.

A long time ago, my wife started her media work as a producer for the “Newshour” in DC and bias was rarely the criticism. The complaints then centered on what you could say was the LACK of sensationalism, that PBS was accurate, but that it was the “most boring news in town.” In other words, very accurate but a bit of a snooze.

What a change of view - by some - in the age of off-the-wall polarization.

There's a silver lining, if you can call it that, in Trump's effort to defund NPR and PBS. It seems he'll have to do it publicly through Congress, rather than secretly in the dead of night like his other unlawful federal funding and program cuts. Past efforts at defunding public media through Congress were never successful.

"The memo, which the administration plans to send to Congress when it reconvenes from recess on April 28, will open a 45-day window in which the House and Senate can either approve the rescission or allow the money to be restored." (NPR)

Where's Mr. Rogers when you need him?

You are making an assumption he will ever be gone. And if he does go, my guess is someone worse will replace him.

Is there a history of cult leaders being replaced? Cults seem to end in destruction or they become religions. I’m curious to see what happens after his demise anyway.

I always think about the succession problem I think Republicans are going to have now that they’ve abandoned faith in elections. It’s become de rigueur among them to claim unfairness if they lose.

The founders knew the problems inherent in Rome and under monarchies replacing a leader who died. That’s why they instituted elections.

So, I suppose Trump could be replaced with someone worse or maybe he’s not. Trump’s approval seems to be at a steady decline. It’s not like Vance or anyone else is more popular.

I’m not making assumptions either way. I’m curious to see what happens tho. I think the scramble for his crown will be interesting.

I know he’ll be gone from the mortal realm at some point. Only his Followers believe He’s immortal. 😉

There’s also the problem of the GOP having no actual principles now that they’ve adopted Trumpism or they’ve turned back their principles to what they were in the 1930s. At least I know now the period Trump was referring to with “Again.” It’s somewhere between Restoration and the beginning of WWII.

“Nihilists! F* me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude; at least it’s an ethos.”

Octavian was named by Julius Caesar as his successor and still Caesar’s death led to a civil war. With some luck we keep our republic and elections. Trump wouldn’t cross the Rubicon. It might mess up his hair.

"I never saw this bias", Dan Rather and 60 minutes lost their credibility with a bogus story about George W Bush two weeks before the Presiential election. Lies, no question about it, reported as "news" and "facts" . Penalty? None, Rather has gone the Joe Rogan route and still pumping out untruths. Strange that all media blasted Trump before the election and, surprise, no one takes the media seriously and, again, surprise, Trump won again.....

Well, that was a long, long time ago. Even journalists are not perfect. I'd argue that it is almost always high quality journalism and one blunder should not be held against them. After all, Dan Rather is long gone.

I’ve watched 60 Minutes for a long time. My father watched it before me. It as well as all news is getting difficult to watch. I say I’m going to stop but I keep watching although it mostly just gets me upset and spouting curse words which really isn’t like me.

Great column, Ken. I love 60 Minutes and hate DJT, too. Our only hope is if they, Harvard and other big names stand up to him. I know teachers and 5-6 million protesters will. What a world!

Would you consider doing a column about dragqueenstoryhourthemusical.org? Check it out. We're auditioning April 25-27 for a show at the Wood June 6-8. A satirical response to the Rockwell Falls Library war. Tx.

Everything Trump says about 60 Minutes and, really, all he says about corruption and lies and weaponization, all he says about Soros and unversities and rigged elections, about Marxist

Democrats, honest newscast, and people in the military .... are all projections of his corruption, lies, criminal behavior. All those he pardons are criminals, all those he wants to impeach and punish are truthtellers. who dare to speak what is so clearly true. His ego is so fragile, his corruption so blatant, his cruelty so painful--a bully who threatens everyone. Sixty MInutes, Harvard, some law firms, some states have stood up to him, refused to capitulate...That is what we all need to do. I am always thanking 60 minutes for their excellent reporting; I always learn from them. A few weeks ago they had a program about the young equity musicians who were supposed to come to the Whitehouse for a concert with the Navy orchestra. Trump cancelled their performance and ordered the Navy musicians to not play with them. Sixty Minutes brought the musicians to Washington DC, retired Navy musicians played with them, the young musicians spoke of their love of their instruments, their love of music and how music enabled them to express their emotions and feelings. At the end of their performance, I think it was Scott Pelley, said that while a hundred people could not hear them, a million people were able to hear their beautiful performance. The difference between their love and Trump's hate and cruelty is immense. Trump wants to defund public broadcasting and NPR, to defund libraries and ban books and limit our schools, to make everyone afraid. I am continually horrified at him, Musk, Vance --at our loss of what is good and their support of greed and violence. What I still cannot understand is how anyone who has a mind, a heart, and any integrity can continue to support those who would do such harm to so many.

Bringing those young musicians to D. C. to perform with the retired Navy musicians was one of their finest 60 Minutes episodes. Bravo to their persistence to resist tRump’s cruel behavior toward young people and all ag s.

I saw this program. Trump is uncultured; thus he wants to deprive those who view the arts as a natural part of life. Trump is trying hard to dumb down America. We must fight hard to make him realize that we will not be forced into a category of people for which he identifies. He is a tragic embarrassment for our country.

Ii will just repeat what I wrote above about 60 Minutes...and how this administration--with the silence and approval of the Republican Party--would like to defund all that enriches our lies. I keep increasing my contributions as a sustaining member to both Vermont PBS, and New York WMHT for all the ways they nourish my mind and heart: history, music science, ...now up to $85 a month.

Just heard their wonderful "Future of Earth"--a 4 parts series on ocean, grassland, and forests...about ecology, interconnections, indigenous knowledge, about people who work to preserve our earth, who understand the web of life....about climate change and our losses. I think of all the people who do good for the good and how those now in power yell drill, would destroy our earth to increase their obscene wealth, and those who choose ignorance, cannot see what is so clear with fires, floods, record heat,, who cannot think of their children and grandchildren. AS a small note, they have tried to remove the legislation against Midwest factories whose chemicals and pollution's came to our east coast and poisoned our waters , killed fish and the life within .

They are attempting to remove all of Biden's agenda protecting air and water , incentivizing green energies and mitigate some of our climate crisis....They are bringing back coal and removing protections of air and water. So thank you, Ken, and thank all who work for the good of Earth and our lives.

I agree Ken 60 minutes is a must for me each week. They cover information that others do NOT!

The two segments last Sunday (Ukraine & Greenland) were really great. And much as I dont care for all the entertainment/sports info on CBS this morning - their reporters/journalists do a great job too. So yeah, I'm sure the WH felon hates CBS. I hope the "owner/CEO" doesnt bow down.
