It seems that everything the GOP is messing with is shameful! We are witnessing a minority party inability to govern, totally reactionary, create a problem where there is none!

Good luck trying to find Republicans today who are willing to work with others to solve real problems. They make up fake ones so they don't have to do the hard and often unpopular work. Ask them to solve the problem of child labor or female adolescent sexual abuse and they just lower the marriageable age and the working age.

Oh my heart.

Thank you Will for bringing attention to this.

I can only say that what is happening is definitely an assault on this community. I worry every single day that someone will hurt my child because of their lack of understanding biology and their hateful hearts.

Thank you for being an ally.

Expand full comment

Predictable. No one can be concerned about what's happening to children without being labelled hateful. From trans activists lips that word has become meaningless.

Expand full comment

It is clear that you do not know any transgender child.

Wrong. And I am frequently interact with trans adults. Opposing trans ideology does not equal hate. Accusations of hate from trans activists lips=bullying.

Interesting, because trans in my community are the ones being aggressive. One was finally charged for attacking and knocking to the ground an elderly gay man at a Pride event. Because our trans activists tv news reporters won't report them. They only, very slantedly, report the opposite. Yet, no trans person has actually been physically harmed.

Lol. Where do you live Sophia?

And "no trans person has been physically harmed"?

Sign me up to move where you are.....

Do you support transgender humans?

Did you read the facts presented here?

Sorry if I'm defensive here but tired of cisgenders putting blame on a community that simply wants to survive.

Expand full comment

That statement happens to come from a VERY liberal city council.

Support means to encourage. No I don't. Identity politics are so divisive and destructive. I treat everyone the same. And I do interact with 'trans' often.

Facts????? Whose facts? Liberals? Anyone who isn't listening to, researching, and reading all positions, shouldn't speak.

Simply wants to survive? Not so, they want to force their propaganda on everyone, you know - like cis gender. LOL.

Of course, the children are not to be blamed. I do wonder and worry a lot about how this trans explosion got started, and why children are being targeted.

I have a trans daughter. I don't tolerate people who think like you.

It's her right to have the same rights YOU have as we are ALL HUMAN BEINGS.

You obviously don't treat trans people the *same*.Get yourself educated. Or better yet keep the hate you feel inside because it most definitely hurts others. So my mature response to this is have a nice day and gfy Sophia. 🙂

I agree Will. Black bears are a part of New York, and it was a good choice.

The Republican Party has become dominated by right wing ultra conservative self serving individuals. So very sad. Most people don’t take the time to really look at candidates and that is scary.

As far as the new GF mascot goes-Bravo to the students and other committee members who made the choice and Boos to those members of the community who grew up but never left the high school mentality behind. I say “ get over it!”

The same can be said about the extreme wing of the Dems.

I can agree with one, and only one, statement made in this piece.

Leave the children alone, let them play sports.

I am left leaning. Until recently identified as a Dem. If anything, I would call myself an Independent. Can count on 3 fingers the times I have voted for a Repub. Never voted for a Repub president. Despite the insanity of left media reports, I believe children are safer in GOP hands on this issue.

There's too much to challenge in this hyperbolic commentary. Here's a partial list:

-- "Republicans are themselves engaged in finding and PERSECUTING transgender children and adults across the country." To use your word - "shameful" hyperbolic BS.

--"Who gets harmed when a child has surgery.." Really? you think that is a legitimate question?

--Given that young 'trans' are coming out of the woodwork, we cannot know at this point if it is or isn't a social contagion.

--...transgender for who they are -- is not in doubt. Clearly, you are not listening to de-transitioners.

--De-transitioners say they felt pressured into being trans by people with an agenda like Pride Centers. Only to discover they were gay.

--I wonder how many suicides THEY are responsible for. How many children didn't get to discover they were merely gay?

--De-transitioning can take over a year and is very painful. Even then, doctors say that the consequences of taking puberty blockers can never be completely undone.

--Does anyone really believe that the GOP is out to humiliate children by making them expose their genitals. Produce the documents.

-- That's as absurd as the left media's charge that Florida has a 'Do Not Say Gay' law. It doesn't exist.

--Cut their hair, put them in a dress, and you can't tell them apart. That is simply not true. Most of the time you can tell them apart.

--Who gets harmed if trans use a different name and change their clothes. No one. And no one cares. But that of course, is not the issue. What is pushing this on children doing to them? Yes, it is being pushed on them. Children are absolutely being asked in classrooms to identity their pronouns.

--Whose money is paying for the upcoming survey you claim in coming out?

This commentary reads like an absent-minded rush job to make a deadline -- just say something, anything to make a statement about the issue.

If only you knew a transgender child.

I think every child who says I am a girl/boy needs legal representation. I've heard mothers wear their child's transness like a badge of honor. It was utterly sickening.

I also watched on TED a Stowe, VT mother speak, with child in the audience, about gender dysphoria. It was very clear that her child had it. This should not be a political battle.

Oops. Feels like the opposite gender of which they were born into.

Let me tell you a story. My lifelong friend is a wonderful mother and good human being. She has 4 adult children. Her daughter is in a lesbian marriage. They have 4 children. I was surprised after many years of that marriage to hear her say that she wasn't completely comfortable with it. I never would have guessed. Loving someone with your whole being does not equate with acceptance of lifestyle.

I thought about the sentence you misquote. Here is what it actually says: "Who is hurt when a person has surgery to change his or her appearance?" I didn't say "child," because children are rarely if ever going to have surgeries related to gender. Surgeries, if they occur, are almost always for adults 18 or over. Gender care is available, in some places, for adolescents, and some are able to take puberty blockers. This sort of care is supported by most major medical groups. This from the Kaiser Family Foundation: "Most major U.S. medical associations, including those in the fields of pediatrics, endocrinology, psychiatry, and psychology, have issued statements recognizing the medical necessity and appropriateness of gender affirming care for youth, typically noting harmful effects of denying access to these services. These include statements from the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, American Psychological Association, American Psychiatric Association, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, among others."

I also wanted to point out that millions of people have surgeries to change their appearance that no one bats an eyelash at -- various surgeries from face lifts and breast enhancements to the removal of moles or lumps.

Extraordinarily foolish to compare adult any surgery to removing a child's genitals and breast.

News flash: children are persons.

OK. Now google trans care whistleblowers. And detransistioners. You will find children who felt pressured into having surgery.

The American Medical Assoc is criticized all the time. Have you done so yourself with any of the associations you mentioned?

I reject conspiracy theories. Still, I am very suspicious about who and whose money is behind this trans onslaught. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLXdoqXbC6k&t=519s

If trans surgery is such a positive, why are liberal legislatures passing bills that protect gender 'care' providers from liability?

Every association you mention has an agenda. I would not trust any of them without doing my own research.

I’ve been revisiting James Baldwin recently. This quote seems apt. “There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one’s head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people’s pain.” - James Baldwin

For the cult, there has always been the "other". Someone you should be afraid of, someone who threatens you, will threaten you, receives something you don't, looks different, thinks differently, will take control unless they are stopped. They must be oppressed, legislated, jailed, threatened, removed from the shelves, intimidated. The 1950s are calling, these inquisitors that have been left behind by society.

Where I live trans aggression has been caught on camera and tv news a number of times. In fact, recently an elderly gay man was attacked and knocked to the ground at a Pride event. The trans was charged. I could go on. Cult has no meaning here.

Regardless of where you live, the cult, the radical right, the homophobes among us, whatever gives you comfort in referring to those who cannot and will not tolerate the "others" in society, remain a threat to society in general because of their constant attacks of people who don't harm them in any way whatsoever. An elderly gay man was knocked to the ground at a Pride event? The trans was charged? Who was the assailant? What was the verdict? Name the names so I can fact check. You can go on? Go on, continue with your plethora of examples describing the evil others.

Of course, it doesn't matter a hoot to me if you believe me or not.

Seems anyone who isn't jumping on the trans bandwagon are the haters to you. Hmmm. Might do you good to examine your own hate.

The trans was charged but, not without forcing the issue because our DA, like extremist liberal DAs everywhere is not charging violent offenders -- and a trans. Forget it. He got community service.

The radical right? Are you so simple-minded that you can only hold that it's either the (righteous) left or the evil radical right, instead of seeking understanding?

My purpose here is to create the awareness that there is a side to the trans issue worthy of understanding and consideration.

Labeling others is pretty hateful.

Who's expressing hate here? Trans ideology is so weak that its supporters inevitably resort to name-calling.

I couldn't care less that you have a trans daughter. Identity is narrow and divisive. Unlike you, I respect all human beings and treat people the same. You have NO idea how I treat people. Your accusations are incredibly ignorant. You don't tolerate people like me? You don't tolerate anyone whose expresses views different than yours.

I have one word for you. Ignorant. Ignorant. Ignorant.
