You seem to have missed the point ... as usual. Is any one man above the law? I say no. If that makes me stupid in your eyes, I can live with that.

Kavanaugh did nothing wrong. But, the author lumps him in in the same pile of garbage every chance he gets. That's the way "jouralists" slant the news. Keep the lies alive. Dan Rather is back. He's a "journalist", no crime, no foul. Stefanik 2024 and beyond !

I am absolutely DISGUSTED with the Supreme Court! Trump's lawyer should have been thrown out on his ear for even THINKING about bringing his absurd arguments before the Court! The fact that they even entertained LISTENING to what he had to say is an insult to the legal institutions of this country!! If they allow this absurdity to become law, then this country is no longer a free democracy. It seems like more and more Republicans are ignoring the Constitution, and trying to find ways to change what it is! I am so tired of this! If they side with trumps lawyer, then we might as well not have laws at all. No more jails, no more police! 😡😡😡😡

I think you both are correct. The Great Meadow Correctional Facility is located in the hamlet of Comstock, which is in the town of Fort Ann.

Excellent column all around, but the SCOTUS issue is foundational to the core principles of our nation.

Nobody is above the law. Period. Full stop.

If you wish to hold the most consequential office in the world you must accept that every decision can and will be scrutinized minutely. Otherwise DO NOT RUN FOR OFFICE.

If, on rare occasions, a president absolutely MUST order an action in conflict with law - such as assassination of a terrorist on foreign soil - the president accepts that they may be investigated and prosecuted.

There is no presidential immunity. It is not in the Constitution despite Herculean efforts of the Court’s textualists to find it.

And there is no need for presidential immunity. We saw Bill Clinton tried for lying about sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky while he was president. Our nation, and Bill Clinton, survived. He lost his license to practice law. Seems like precendent.

Our nation was founded in the courage of principles. Conservatism has devolved into cowardice and self-interest.

What feels different about our politics now is not only the willingness of most Republicans and other Trump supporters to ignore the rule of law, ignore our traditional justice system values, and to devalue our democratic heritage, but that they believe they are totally justified in doing so. That true belief is what, I think, makes our political times so dangerous.

Great article Ken! I think that next to the corruption of the Republican Party, issues around the corruption of the Supreme Court weigh the most heavily on my heart. I have absolutely no faith in them or their decisions. The trump appointed members lied at their hearings and did not respect or care about precedent in regard to Roe Vs. Wade. They use their position for money and power and manipulation with only their personal gain as motivation. I feel like I'm back in England with the monarchy running the country and the future threat of hangings and guillotines should that crazy man get back in office with his puppy shooting partner.

WOW Ken, thank you for your succinct explanation of the Corruption that we now call the Supreme Court. IT IS SIMPLE...breaking the law is a crime and NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW, regardless of their position in this country. Again, thank you...I'm DEFINITELY sharing this one with all my friends on the West Coast...

Elise Stefanik is the WORST member of Congress in recent history...even considering MTG and Loren Boebart..she really has power, and power to corrupt and she's making every effort to do so. Unfortunately we're stuck with her due to the uneducated, self serving greedy residents in the far northern reaches of this district....Apparently they love carpetbaggers...thank you Ken for continuing to expose her vile ramblings.

As one of the "uneducated, self serving greedy residents in the far northern reaches of this district" , I'm amazed how well we adjusted. I'm a proud native and wonder why if life is so miserable here, why do so many move back and complain about those who never left.

Listening to the Supreme Court I had the same reaction--horror, disbelief...I can't believe they are not stating what is obvious and continue repeating what is illogical stupid possibilities in the future. Thomas should have recused himself from anything to do with Trump--his wife an election denier and actually there on June 6. Alieto is totally compromised--all his talks to political conservative religious groups, his laughter. Your "summary" of the supreme court's disgrace stated the truth precisely...Thank you very much....

And thank you for calling out Stefanik.......her response is typical, blaming Biden for everything, taking credit for what she did not do, and then lying over and over and over...My question is always how she can live with her lies, for selling her soul, for having no integrity. And the other question: how and why do people vote for her and Trump and those who would destroy democracy for power....

One should not presume that judges, including the Justices of the Supreme Court know the law, or even the difference between right and wrong. It is the responsibility of the lawyers appearing before them to educate them, that's why they have briefs and oral arguments. With regard to the immunity cased the lawyers failed pretty miserably.

It would have been simple to argue that a violation of a state or federal criminal law can never be an official act. What could possibly be the rebuttal? To argue that it may be necessary to violate the criminal law to save the country from ruin, simply invites the retort that, surely it should be done, and the consequences should be heroically faced.

It took me all of 5 minutes in listening to the Supreme Court to begin shaking my head and smiling (not really smiling) to determine where they were going with this. It is what I expected and they did not disappoint. For me they had already lost credibility, and this just confirmed the same. Collectively they simply are an embarrassment. Once to be held in high regard. Now they are not even close to that. Pathetic.

We need to rebalance the Supreme Court. For that, we need majorities in the House and Senate, and a Democratic President in the Oval Office who will back this proposal.

When, as I expect, Joe Biden wins the 2024 election, we need to press him on making this necessary change.

Thank you Ken, for expressing the horrific truth about the justices of the Supreme Court who are blatantly skirting the issue of responsibility for criminal acts. They are protecting themselves, this is life or death for them and as you say, they are politicians, which means they are For Sale.
