Stefanik has become an undeniably destructive force-the female version of Trump. It doesn't matter to her which relationships she destroys, as long as she fires up the base. That appears to be the battle cry of our new Republican Party. Power and money at any cost.

Stefanik has never been concerned with the health and well-being of the people of New York 21. Representing the North Country was and will always be a means to an end. When politicians are more concerned with self interest than the public good, the people definitely do not benefit. Her latest antics are nothing new. We are the pawns in her diabolical game.

Your remarks are spot on. Like Ted Cruz and some of the others who have joined the torches & pitchforks crowd, she has an Ivy League education and knows better. It's a calculated strategy of becoming a hard right bomb thrower, instead of being constructive, by keeping the base outraged, over matters real & imaginary. Shame on them. I've got neighbors here who when they saw me plant a Biden / Harris lawn sign in my front yard, stopped speaking to me. I've never experienced that sort of thing before, in nearly 7 decades. Used to be that despite political differences, people that voted Row A or Row B would remain neighborly and friends. Stefanik is merely throwing fuel on the fire for short term political gain, and I don't know when the needed day of reckoning will come, if ever, for these types. Things have really changed, for the worse.

There was also a place for moderates in both parties. I used to believe that Dems and Reps were not that far apart, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

There are two forces acting here: historically, the right wing has subverted public schools for the simple reason that an educated public is more difficult to control. I didn’t dream that up; review the history of school battles in the 1900s and agin the 1930s . Second, there is a rhetorical device in play: if your root argument is vulnerable, do as much as you can to subvert your opponent, in any way.

It's true, all you wrote, Ken...and all that the others have written. As someone who has taught for 30 years, i am horrified by the attacks promoted by Stefanik and many in the Republican party--not just against school boards and masks but also in terms of banning books about history, civil rights, gay rights, and their attacks on election officials or anyone really who questions the lie that Trump won the election. Threats, attacks, cheers by those attacking are disgraceful...are not and should not be part of our community. We should debate ideas. I have not heard any substantive ideas by Stefanik other than criticizing and demeaning our president and obsessively repeating that the socialist communist nazis democrats are destroying our country. Instead of raising substantive issues, Stefanik and her right wing comrades threaten and attack...and are dangerous in terms of promoting violence against good people trying to live their lives with integrity and care.

Like the people in Ukraine, people working hard and trying to lead a good life.

She also takes credit for the monies coming to the district that she voted against.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day ☘️! The local I really miss is the Dugout in SGF. Pat Russo’s version.

The thing I don’t understand about ES is why she has to perform as a rightwing, extremist sociopath. I suppose the Occam’s razor answer is that’s who she really is. I’ve never liked her because she campaigned in her first two elections on taking away my health insurance and I’ve held a grudge.

In the district she was in, and moreso now, the only thing she needs is an ‘R’ after her name to get re-elected. I can’t believe it’s fear of a primary opponent. She has the money to squash anyone thinking of that. There’s no political future beyond the House without trying to appeal outside the most extreme elements of the GOP. IMO anyway.

Rick Wilson’s catchphrase is ETTD. It’s not very Christian but I wouldn’t be too upset if some moderate Trumpian karma came crashing down on my once and future rep.

We all better get use to it…as the Republican war on our schools proved successful as a strategy in Virginia for Youngkin to win his seat, while still distancing himself from Trump to some extent…we are going to see a lot more of it…also of note there are greater GOP goals here IMHO…

Ken, on another topic ---Burn pit bill that Elise said in her latest flyer that she supported---HR 6659 which is a Rep generated bill from 2/9/22. She co-sponsored this. What she fails to mention is that she voted against Dem generated HR 3967 from 6/17/21 which was supported by 34 Republicans. From what I can figure, the Rep no vote was because it was too expensive. Do you know anything more about this? Thanks
