If she really cared about veterans she would assist them in finding ways to afford a therapy dog (proven to reduce suicide in vets) and counseling. Not giving them the weapon to commit suicide. But it is always about Elise, no one else. Eye on the prize!

And another reason may be that her husband works for the firearm's industry's top trade group.....

One would hope that is not part of her decision-making process. But it is a conflict for sure.

Oh Ken, you are such an optimist, always looking for the good in everyone...now me, in this case, not so much.

Always have to have a little hope. But Ms. Stefanik does make it difficult.

Sadly, not only has that ship sailed

but it is past the horizon

I agree with your assessment, Catherine. I am having difficulty finding any light whatsoever in Elise.

Just as one would hope an A-1 rating from the nra is not part of the decision-making process.

but it is.

There is no defense for this conflict of interest.. but #POS_tefanik is all about conflicts of interests.. from her insider trading, to using proxy voting that she is against.

The bottom line is... most people --- let's say most moral and conscientious people -- would look at what stiffy has done and wonder --- am I part of the problem

#POS_tefanik doesn't look

but if she did.. she would see evil in the mirror

All of which just goes to show how far the Republican party has lost it's way.

Why are veterans killings themselves?

I suppose there is no one reason, but certainly PTSD would be the main culprit.

Greetings Te, I bounced around the web for awhile looking for an answer. My search lead to the CDC, then I realized I was asking the wrong questions so I entered your simple question “Why are veterans killings themselves” it lead me to an article in Psychology Today titled “Why Are U.S. Soldiers Killing Themselves? The military must confront the enemy within.” It was at the top of a very long list.

Your question simple and on point. The answer far more complex. Some will read no father then “Simply owning a gun triples the risk of suicide.” How far will you read?

I suppose disarming ex military members that have been through tons of mental mind games, and maybe even terroristic type violence should be disarmed. We would not them harming themselves or anyone else.

And with the top notch combat training many received, most are probably considered to be literal walking lethal weapon themselves. No gun needed.

Reagan your free to suppose anything you wish to. Although first google your question “Why are veteran’s killings themselves” See where it leads you.

I’m not sure about “we” and I don’t know about you, although you asked the question. Are you willing to put in the effort and spend the time to find possible solutions?

I would suggest Elise Stefanik discuss the issue with Kirsten Gillibrand, but bipartisanship has left the building. It’s all politics and all Democrats are far left socialists. As another commenter suggested, she has to keep up with Marge Greene. It’s a race to the bottom.

Military sexual assaults is another era where Rep. Stefanik has had shortcomings, especially compared with how Sen. Gillibrand has responded and led the charged for change.

It would be my guess (unscientific) that some of the suicide problem -- mental health problem stems from sexual assault.

Solution: Elise needs a guardian.

You know, it seems to me that since she was re-elected, she has been going after different causes every time trump gets another lawsuit or charges brought against him. Just saying.

There seems to be no depth or real empathy in Our Elise. She is flagrantly in-your-face raw personal ambition. Her stance frequently makes me nauseous.

We should do so much more to help vets not commit suicide and we should be doing a LOT more to help veterans period!!!

Expand full comment

Absolutely!

I think the quest should not be 'we should do so much more to help vets not commit suicide'

Yes we should avoid that.

But what we should address is mental illness. Not just for vets -- though that is the topic at hand -- but for all.

Self-harm and ultimately death is the result of mental illness. But there are many with mental illness that do not commit suicide, but live many years suffering from their mental illness. Even if you could stop all suicides, you would not address the many who endure mental illness for months and years

I wouldn't doubt it. I don't have Twitter, but I hear about her comments every now and then.

First

It is foolish to pretend #POS_tefanik is doing this for the vets

She is working at gun nuts... which kind of is a dangerous phrase that should be divide into two phrases - gun fanatics and gun mentally ill (there is a third group, not sure what to call them, but this group is gun owners that understand the dangers)

My guess is the line between the two is very thin

We really need to start using terminology that defines the problem.

Example 1: stiffy is a liar.

Example 2: weapons are killing machines. The gun folks want to talk about is it an assault rifle or not.

They have a good point, they don’t know it, but they are right.. all guns can kill and arguing over what kind a gun is, is ignoring that there is only one phrase for them = killing machines.

Second

This information leads us to the cause of death. The reason there is a large number of veterans successfully committing suicide is that many are using killing machines. Killing machines are good at killing people: in war, in suicide and with children accidentally showing themselves or others.

If you try to overdose, your chance of killing yourself is less. Sedatives are not killing machines. They are medicine, created to help people. Though misusing many things will kill you.

The difference between killing machines and pill overdose. The chance of a life being saved after a suicide attempt is small if the victim uses a gun. With an overdose there is a much better chance of survival.

Suicide is often a call for help. When the victim uses a killing machine....

The call is seldom answered

It is time to accept #POS_tefanik is not in office to solve problems. Even the most ardent supporter could NOT find one time she has found a solution. If you look her voting record or the number of bills she has introduced that resulted in a law.. you would see she has done nothing that helps people.

Even if you want to give stiffy the benefit of doubt that she wants to help people, you have to look at her results ands ay she is a colossal failure.

Just as - if you want to give her the benefit of the doubt that she isn’t supporting people killing people because her husband works for the gun industry. You are left with after 8+ years... there are more killing machines than ever and there is more killing because of a result of it.

If you want to give her the benefit of the doubt and point to any success she has had, you would be left with saying -- yes her gun policies are deadly.

But that would not be a success she should be proud of.
