Rara avis indeed! The rare and elusive Stefaniqus Seditiousqus in the flesh! Just not available to be spotted by the mere mortals who actually live in NY21. Flits in, flits out, very stealthy. I've been at quite a number of her former Town Halls, where she bussed in out of District pols and hangers on, who were sussed out and the moderator, Mark Frost of The Chronicle, wouldn't let them speak. She had goons wearing Nazi regalia in Hudson Falls, they were arrested. She had a staffers who doesn't live here pretend to be a long suffering Jewish resident-- guy was about 22, how much suffering had he seen?-- with bogus pre-planned *questions*. By acting this way she now draws far larger crowds to the various protests at her Oh! So private! Events, and the *Empty Chair* Town Hall at the Crandel Library was an over flow crowd. Why she thinks THE GOVERNOR needs to hold Town Halls is beyond me. #SeditiousStefaniQ wants to run for NY Governor, now thst she has been jilted by her Orange felon, would she hold Town Halls if she won?? Not a chance!!! She just wants to pardon all of Canteloupe Caligulas NY crimes!!

Reminder-- She will be at yet ANOTHER private fund raiser in Schoharie on Thursday. Get your signs, bull horns and banners ready!!

Cantaloupe Caligula = now THAT is perfect, Judith! Great nickname.

I do hope her fund raiser gets "covered" the way it should be - signs, bullhorns & banners!!

I'll be interested in how it goes.

It looks like she includes fund raising (times at t-Rump places)and TV time(like her performance talking over ivy league school presidents) as "events". Seems her fund raising is usually out of district.

I wonder if Elise knew that Cara was from NCPR since Stefanik did not start calling her "fake news" or part of the "radical left". As usual, Stefanik fell back on her well practiced litany of "results" and taking credit for funding from legislation that she most likely voted against.

Elise just put forth a bill renaming Saratoga National Historic Park to Saratoga National Battlefield Park. We can add that to her prior bills naming a post office and sponsoring a coin. Imagine that, all that from her being in Congress for over ten years of "representing" NY21.

60 Minutes doing the hard reporting that so many other news outlets are failing at.

Marc Elias continues to be a regular commentator on MSNBC’s Deadline:White House with Nichol Wallace 4 - 6 PM week days. His courage in continuing to speak his Truth, since the airing of the 60 Minutes expose, and despite ongoing threats from the tRump regime, is highly commendable…and a template for other law groups to emulate. A true journalistic lawyer warrior in the battle for Social Justice.

Ken, "60 Minutes", as you say, is standing up. So is Rachel Maddow. She featured the Sackets Harbor victory over ICE, twice on her show. The Washington Post also covered it. The timeline: 3/27, immigrant family in Sackets Harbor cooperating fully w/Immigration office, nevertheless seized by ICE. 4/5, 1000 demonstrators protest in Sackets. At 80, I wasn't the oldest. 2 days later, family released.

2 days after that, "Deportation Czar" Tom Homan, defeated in his home town, says on local TV, "Criminal investigations have begun" and "criminal prosecutions" may follow, against the Sackets 1000.

At 2 subsequent anti-Trump rallies in the center of Watertown, the county seat, the sign I carried says "I marched at Sackets. Arrest me?" (this is from "Do not obey in advance", ON TYRANNY by Timothy Snyder). My next anti-Trump letter to the Watertown TIMES will invite the brave 1000 to the June 14th rally.

C’mon! It’s beyond obvious that Stefanik is a lying sack of s**t who doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the welfare of her North Country constituents! Anyone who believes otherwise is either ignorant or has swallowed the MAGA cool aid.

Excellent summary reports on compelling issues, Ken.

While most other substack writers and main stream media focus on trump’s corruption about the Qatari brives, Congress is trying to pass the tax bill linked below. Please read it and share. A national sales tax instead of our current federal income tax will be highly regressive. It will affect lower income families significantly more than the top 50% of income earners. Furthermore, the particulars of this plan undo the social safety network established throughout the last century after the great depression. The complicit corruption of the current republican led house of representatives knows no boundaries. I remain hopeful that the Senate will vote it down. Let's call or email Senators now.

So they want to repeal payroll taxes? Well that will certainly hamper SS, medicaid etc! But of course, they want to do away with them too from the current efforts.

Expand full comment
Ethel Weeks's avatar

It sure appears that way. Payroll taxes include SS and Medicare taxes. We pay them all our working lives, and our employers pay them, too. Republicans are intent on making both programs disappear.

Maggie's avatar

Yeah - did payroll for quite a few years. It always amazes me how many people dont realize exactly what "payroll taxes" consists of. The whole calling them "payroll taxes" seems to be confusing to them. Sort of like calling social security and medicaid entitlements - which to be honest they ARE - but not in the way our sainted politicians think.

Medicaid is a transfer program much like SNAP. Below is an explanation of what payroll taxes encompass for our fellow substackers.

When 60 minutes edited Kamala Harris' interview for a more "favorable" broadcast, few were surprised. CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS etc. all knew about Hunter's laptop and refused to report it until after the election. Media reported that "He's never been sharper", and other quotable accolades for a "sitting President." It was a lie, America knew it and voted accordingly. For the record, how many times have you called our sitting Congressional Representative a "liar" ?

Expand full comment
Ken Tingley's avatar

I find it amazing that "Anonymous" posters still bring up Hunter Biden's laptop five years later even though Republican congressional committees could find no wrong doing by President Biden.

There is no proof that 60 Minutes did anything more than normal editing that any news organization would do.

As far as the number of times I have called Rep. Stefanik a liar, well, probably not enough.

Great article! I grew up in the north country. It breaks my heart to see it with no funding and a bleak future. The folks living in the north country are the salt of the earth. The Canadians are our neighbors and will suffer huge economic losses too. The difference though is Canada’s PM Carney is a brilliant business leader. He will make Canada strong and prosperous.

Stefanik uses her son as a political prop.

During a visit to the Washington Cty Fair she, her husband, and their child were photographed talking to Matt Castelli. Castelli tweeted the photo with a caption something like “I met this nice couple who live outside of the district at the fair.”

Stefanik’s husband wrote an irate response demanding that Castelli take the post - the image of their child - down, which Castelli did. But at the very same moment Stefanik had several pics of Sammy on her own Twitter accounts.

Ken, you know very well that journalistic protocol dictates the label [sic] be used in cases where a quote or title is erroneous. Therefore, you should refer to her as Rep. [sic] Elise Stefanik.

Thank you for pointing out the disparities in Stefaniks claims. The Historic Preservation Fund was created in 1966. Now I'm sure Elise will claim she had a part in it but the fact is that the funds are allocated without input from any specific member of congress. Of course the true source is we, the taxpayers, who still pay out more to the feds than we receive in return. It's so disturbing that good folks, like the Fort committees have to stand by her side as she distorts the facts over and over. Grateful for your continued work Ken and the folks who comment and give me hope.

I've been saying for some time that Rep. Stefanik has not done anything that any other representative - no matter the party - would have done. It is basic constituent service and it is done mostly by her staff, not her.
