Hopefully, Hartford will elect some game changers.

I hope Mr. Bragg can bring charges against Stefanik and Jordan for their inflammatory retoric, and interference in his case.

“Some things you must always be unable to bear. Some things you must never stop refusing to bear. Injustice and outrage and dishonor and shame. No matter how young you are or how old you have got. Not for kudos and not for cash: your picture in the paper nor money in the bank either. Just refuse to bear them.” - William Faulkner

Stefanik is despicable. I shudder to think what kind of children these politicians are raising. No wonder the same problems keep recurring. Greed and power is all these people are interested in, certainly not solving the countries problems.

baby arrbitron will be just like #pos_tefanik & #pos_manda

which I am sure kenny and melanie are like (they never paid ack their PPP 'loan' that stiffy arranged for them)

Stefanik doesn't know the people of her own state if she thinks we're cowed by the ravings of some politician.

She knows she is ensconced in a gerrymandered safely Republican district. Far too many of our neighbors (many of them seniors) vote only for the “R”, with no awareness of policies.

“Radical Far Left Socialist DA Alvin Bragg”

Words don’t even mean anything to Elise Stefanik. At least John Sweeney had alcoholism as an “excuse.” What’s Elise’s?

She and the rest of the Trump acolytes are going on and on about “Soros-backed” Bragg. Did Soros break any laws in funding a PAC that gave money to Bragg? Of course not or they should investigate it. Did Trump break laws? Well, we haven’t heard them say he didn’t. Just that they’re somehow unimportant laws and that for some reason he’s immune because he’s running for president.

If Gates, Buffett or Bezos want to go on a crime spree, just declare a presidential run afterward.

The letter from Leslie Dubeck in Bragg’s office to the three best and brightest of the Republican House was pure gold. Even they must be smart enough to know he’s not going to come testify. If he did, he’d make them look stupider than the folks from Twitter did.

Elise Stefanik should spend the next year and a half trying to serve the North Country honorably and avoid being the embarrassment she’s become to it and American values. Not to mention, Harvard. Then, she should honor the pledge she made to only serve 5 terms. Since she’s so up into milk she should know about expiration dates.

It's all misdirection and distraction because that's all the GOP has to work with.

I think you have it right about showing crime photos (obviously with consent of the families). In the Civil War Matthew Brady exhibited his photographs of the dead on the Antietam battlefield. It had a real impact on public opinion. In the past I have had occasion to see such photos and exhibit some of them to juries and I never saw indifference. We need to go forward with a firm grasp of reality on these matters and these photos could help.

I believe there was at least one family from Sandy Hook who believed it might do some good to see the crime scene photos. It’s horrible that is where we are, but that is the case.

The rabid barking from the party that formerly backed the blue during campaigning isn't surprising. Their embrace of law enforcement dwindled when they themselves became collaborators in a criminal act. This group includes a former wrestling coach who ignored team members reporting sexual assault to him. He now is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. He has never passed a bar exam or practiced law, yet he wants to "investigate" a District Attorney acting on the vote of a grand jury of 23 peers. The current ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee stated that enforcing the rule of law will destroy this nation; please send money to the billionaire suspect to support his defense. The guilty and corrupt protest the loudest. Eventually we will learn what they are all suspected of, whether they will be perp walked ala Karl Rove, what they are charged with, when they will be tried and what their sentences are. It's only a matter of time.

I’m certain that Harvard must be much prouder of having graduated Alvin Bragg than they are the tourist from Albany.

thanks again,Ken. The adjectives get longer and longer, the script so repeated that clearly she and her now party are following the route that Goebbels named: if you tell a lie enough times, it willl be believed. Actually the republicans have used the same tactic since the50's...Democrats as Communists taking over our country, and Obamacare a socialist plot to kill our grandmothers. .Meanwhile, as we we all know, Biden and the democratic party are trying to pass legislation that all European democracies already have: medical care for all, paid family leave, subsidized child care....And I remember Sweeney in Florida acting like an enraged citizen protesting the "sore loser" Gore and saying the other repeated script about a seemingly stolen election. IN Idaho and other Republican states charging women with felony for crossing the state line for an abortion, allowing assault weapons to be carried around town...., posing with their children carrying guns, and attacking every action of impartial justice against a corrupt, mean, violent, egomaniac who they want as president...it's hard to believe how dangerous and insane they are...and why and how people here vote for them....Just to say, there was an incredible politicization of the department of justice under Barr and the Supreme Court--especially Alieto and Thomas--in the Supreme Court. We had a little demonstration "NO one is above the law"at Centennial Circle. A man across the street could not stop yelling "democrats are pedophiles." And that about sums up their "argument"for power. Thanks again Ken...and i thank the Post Star for recognizing the lies and the danger of Trump.(same with the Times Union)..while almost all of our Republican legislatures continue even now to endorse STefanik.

If that’s the height of his rhetorical powers, he’d fit right in with Jordan, Steil, Comer, Stefanik, McCarthy and on and on. It’s so 🥱

In a post* I pointed out a comment of an ER doctor in Nashville. One who had to face the tragedy of children being shot with a killing machine. A killing machine designed to butcher humans -- in this case children.

I can imagine what it looks like.. I don't want to own that image.

Instead, I would like to see our representatives (like #pos_tefanik) working for those children so it doesn't happen again. Unlike stiffy who works directly for the gun lobby.

We have more than enough statistics to show what a ban on assault weapons and then repealing that ban would do (https://ricagv.org/assault-weapons-ban-2018/)

Enough authorized-killing by #pos_tefanik.

I am going to ask you to reconsider a line you have often used.

Suggesting a newspaper is 'fair and balanced' because the editorial board once endorsed a criminal.

The Post Star is not MORE objective because the editorial board expressed an opinion that #pos_tefanik or john sweeney should be elected. That might be implied --- and the paper might be objective ---- but it is not a fact.

Expressing an opinion of who you believe should be elected often ignores facts; often tamps down facts.

The watertown daily times, in cooperation with other north country newspapers started sharing news stories about #pos_tefanik four years ago. Consequently, there were articles in the wdt that showed stiffy's entire campaign was based on lies. Yet that newspaper endorsed #pos_tefanik. To do so, they ha to ignore the news not on the editorial page. What they did was to say:

"everything #pos_tefanik says is a lie... and we have printed many news articles that show stiffy is a danger to the district she represents, but we will ignore that and endorse her"

The wdt found themselves in a rare situation.. -- the news was not under the direction of their editorial board, but a consortium of other newspapers. Some who choose to point out #pos_tefanikkkk's lies.

There are many other examples where a media will provide facts that are ignore in the editorial and entertainment end of their entity (fox news for example)

It is dishonest to imply any media that has the opinion... that endorses a liar... is objective.

------

To be clear, I am not saying that the Post Star was not or is not objective. But you can not base that assumption on opinion pieces.

It is not logical, nor is it (at times) based on facts.

You are absolutley right about this. My point has always been if newspapers are out to get a political candidate wouldn’t they also include the editorial board, but of course the editorial board and the news operations are entirely separating entities so there are good points to be made. The point I try to make is the people at the top - who are on the editorial board - are not crafting a message in the news coverage. But many do not believe that.

Expand full comment

I wonder if it might be important to go through how it works.

For example: in the sweeney case. There had to be the 'smell test' as in something smells funny about this story? (He had drinks, but no one wants to say how many and the officers at the scene didn't run any field sobriety tests? And if it wasn't John Sweeney, would they had done the same for Joe Blow?)

As far as the editorial board being separate from news operation..... ----> the small papers I have some knowledge of.. that is not true. The editor or managing editor, who often assigns stories, is the wo/man that writes the editorials. Maybe with the Post Star there are/were separate.

That said, I don't know if they need to be separated.. That is in my example of the wdt endorsing stiffy, when the news stories showed she was a liar, taking credit for things she did not do, etc... Causes one to wonder, how could you endorse that person... and ignore the news in your paper? Did the editorial board talk to the reporters and learn that there were some good things?

I might be a total radical about this, but sweeney / #pos_tefanik lying is high level endangerment to our society. In sweeney’s case (and likey stiffy’s lies as well) it wasn’t just a corruption of the facts. He was not just endangering others on the road, he was compromising the integrity of the people involved.

The current lies of #pos_tefanik do the same. One could say her lies are just lies... that alex degrasse is a piece of crap that lies for a living. But what about the others in the office...or another politician like matt scollin who is perpetuating lies.

In spite of or in light off, when these liars are not called liars and worse, endorsed by a newspaper, an amazing decay of our society happens.

----

And back to my original point... we are left with having to say, should we believe a newspaper is objective.. when that happens...?

One has to wonder if Mr. Sweeney had been a Dem congressperson, would the troopers have been so accommodating?

It’s a good question because Sweeney was a GOP insider during the Pataki administration where he was the head of the labor department so I suspect they would not have been so forgiving.
