Jimmy V makes two relevant observations. The first one is troubling, having worked in government for many years. Second one is hopeful.

Sadly NY 21 will be sold to the highest MAGA carpetbagging bidder. Any MAGA candidate put up for election will win in a landslide. Not many voters up here look farther than what political party they are.

Perhaps there is a silver lining in the fact that our next President at 78 years of age may find it necessary to take a daily nap. Thinking positively....if we can get him away for at least an hour a day resting comfortably on a big pillow or in a cushy soft chair taking a midday snooze, the professional and experienced problem solvers that run our nation will be able to parlay his nap time into a one hour or so respite suitable for course corrections and retrieval of executive actions that are heading towards the precipice. In my view, anytime away from Trump being awake and alert might be advantageous for the well being of our nation and the world.

Ken… you raise a valid point! But we just don’t know yet all of those who might fill important positions in the next Trump administration . For instance , I just heard on the news that yesterday over three dozen laboratory monkeys escaped from a research lab in South Carolina. Current news reports indicate that most of the lab monkeys have been recaptured and about a dozen still remain on the loose. Amongst those lab monkeys that remain on the loose, news pundits suggest that at least three of them are presently being considered by President elect Trump for possible Cabinet appointments. So let’s wait and see who he appoints before we can suggest that they’re all bad! LOL

Some very good points. I actually think the lab monkeys would be a big improvement.

Given his lifelong diet of Big Macs he might get a longer nap than an hour. Often after a long period of high stress a person with underlying health issues can experience a cardiac event when the pressure is off and he relaxes. Have seen it happen in my own family.

Sedition Stefanik has no conscience. Foreign ambassadors will soon learn what we already know. She will use her new position in the same way as she used her position here as the representative from NY 21. She will do Trump’s bidding no matter how devastating it will be to US and our global partners.

Thank you for this early morning read. I've been following the Cabinet and non-Cabinet appointments. I'm speechless this morning. I'm referring to my morning angst as "Ridley." We are rid of Elise, but the bigger stage is terrifying. Is there a long wanted missile defense system, one that is not recommended by the Generals, in our future?

Interesting point. I had not thought of that, but I suspect Ms. Stefanik will not care a hoot about Fort Drum and Watertown after she resigns.

"A large number of people had lost faith in the government as a force to solve what they perceive as the biggest problems confronting the nation and their own lives."

I'm not surprised by Vielkind's observation.

I think there's been, for decades, an erosion of civic responsibility on the part of many people, aided by an increase in conservative/populist denigration of government and our institutions. Add to it the fact that our government, like all human endeavors, is a flawed and imperfect attempt at maintaining our society, and the stage has been set for efforts at reducing the size of the federal government. Government makes a convenient scapegoat for the failures of our economic system.

With the advent of a more organized and determined Trump 2.0 administration, we'll see how much popular support there really is for achieving the fiscal conservative 'holy grail' of a government so small you can drown it in a bathtub.

Elon Musk's PAC reportedly donated $200 million to elect Trump as president. He vows to continue to support republican candidates at the next mid term election cycle which include judicial candidates. Donations equal access. Did Americans elect Musk to run the country? Seems as though we did. For sure, he and other billionaires own Trump and Trump owns both houses of government. Oh, but the price of groceries...........

When the first Trump assassination attempt occurred, which was before Trump had named JD Vance as his VP, I wondered if Stefanik's calendar might get accelerated. At that point, she had name recognition and money in the bank. I am thinking it will be Elise 2028. Other idea is a Vance-Stefanik ticket, play the long game, and run at the top of the ticket after that.

So much for modeling the trad wife role for Republican women.

Your point about UN security clearance is interesting.

I also wonder about rules of decorum. Trump is sending her to the UN to have her shout angrily at global leaders to advance the America First policies. But the UN has microphones that are not controlled by MAGAs and those mics can be muted.

I can't wait for that video clip: Stefanik getting muted.
