Gerrymandering is, as you say, a setback for democracy. Unfortunately, it’s a stubborn practice that’s been employed by all parties in power for over 200 years — one that, given human nature, is not likely to be easily extinguished.

Today, the Republican Party is much better at gerrymandering than the Democratic Party. And Republicans are employing the practice in more states than Democrats.

I would suggest that the lasting harm of the practice is when a singular party in power uses it to gain electoral advantage in a majority of states, thus rendering the majority of voters in the country into minority status.

I fear that’s exactly what’s happening today.
