I just don’t even know who to vote for in Queensbury anymore. They act like children ( typical Republicans bevies over the past 6 years) or they run unopposed and raise taxes by 56% in one year. Our choices are terrible. Sometimes I think they want people to be so sick of them that they don’t bother to vote. That never helps anyone of course. Frustrating.

That 56 percent tax raise should come back to haunt someone. The lack of protest on that means they will clearly just do it again this coming year.

Another shocker, Ken!

Good morning.

A fiine newsletter, as usual. Great to see your skill at communicating on display.

One wish: Please provide links so your readers can quickly find your sources (when they are published). For an old story like the one about Queensbury Republicans of 6 years ago, it would be enough to say "here's the first story of several that relate to this topic" or the like.

Again, thank you.

Here’s something even better. I devote an entire chapter (Chapter 25) to the scandal in “The Last American Newspaper.” But point taken.

Is it possible Mike Wild was the at-large supervisors candidate who charged at Tony Metevier?

Expand full comment

No, that is not what I have been told.

It’s natural to ascribe popularity to a candidate (like Wild) who gets most votes in a race, but in supervisor at large races where last year 5 candidates vied for 4 positions a lot of dynamics were at work. My reading of that election was that Wild drew most votes because he has a name that stands out, at least 3 of the 5 candidates had a lot of negative feeling in the community, and people didn’t really know a lot about Wild. So he benefitted from more people using him to fill their 4th slot than any of the other candidates, in effect benefitting from being little known.

I guess the larger point I was making was that if Republicans want to win, seems kind of odd to abandon the guy who had the most votes unless he is really bad at it.

Canori wrote a book about it which was published last year and apparently some people have read it. I have not.

Not sure what the connection to Wild is?

Besides being a landscaping customer who had gold bars hidden in the water feature at is home Wild is apparently Canori’s step dad.

When are the queensbury voters going to wise up about the republican party here? The republicans in the North Country aren't very good people, and the apathy of the general population is palpable...when did we abandon our representative government for the few thugs who keep themselves in power at the expense of the citizens?

I continue to wonder at the votes that Elise Stefanik gets. She does extremely little for our district.

It is a bit of a mystery.

Thanks Ken. No matter the party our officials need to model civility, not just be civil. As for firearms, there are legal ways to travel with firearms when flying. Firearms are never allowed in carry on bags or on someones person when flying, period. Your question about whether they should have a firearm is a legitimate one in my opinion, and one they should be formally asked. Knowing the laws and regulations when traveling with a firearm is a responsibility and obligation of every gun owner.

It is so unfortunate that Mike Wild didn’t get endorsed since he got all those votes. And the squabbling hurts the town so MUCH. May they get their act together and May it be a good one.

This anti-social behavior among public figures is troubling and disappointing. Perhaps these individuals could ask themselves the following questions: Why am I unable to remain in a problem-solving mode for the people I serve? What kind of example am I offering my constituents, their children...my children? What do I want them to see from me? What do they see? What will my legacy be?

Anti-bullying campaigns and training programs that are in schools and senior living communities will only be effective in the long run, if our elected officials and other leaders in business, society and home model respectful behavior. Let's all begin a new valuable trend and choose civil, considerate conduct.

I’d love to hear some elected officials answer that question.

Basically the same political crap going on in Washington County. The Republican Committee chose not to back the incumbent County Clerk. The are backing someone with no experience or training in the county clerk's office. They do not have the county's best interest with this stunt. Total political garbage.

About that Swiss Army knife: I always have a knife in my pocket, for various resons (none of which is self-defense). At one airport years ago, I remembered this just as I was checking my bag. It was one of those sports bags with pockets all over. So I stuff the knife in one of the pockets of the bag, and off it went -- into someone else's pocket. When I got to my destination, the knife was gone.
