Two months ago we welcomed our first grand baby into our lives, our love for him is out of this world. We see him every day, however, our community seems to care less about keeping little wonders like him safe than following a few simple rules. I can't comprehend how a mother, Stefanik, can expose her newborn to all the covid deniers while campaigning relentlessly away from her newborn. That's what she has done to our community. Our ability to be a part of our Hometown USA has been hindered. It's sad.
Good for Bob Henke. I’m sure he and I would disagree on many things, but I respect him for all he’s done locally. Love his column. I’m glad to hear he was open to discussion and I agree that someone like him would be a source that folks in Washington County would listen to if he gave them advice that would protect them.
I feel similarly toward Dana Haff who I bonded with on legalizing industrial hemp. We beg to differ greatly on the greatness of Donald Trump.
I’m not surprised at the attitude of Rachel Seeber reflexively attacking the state. She seems to be cut from the same cloth as our congressional rep and probably aspires to follow her in that position. It seems like if the state as a whole is doing so markedly better on Covid than Warren and Washington counties that’s not the state’s fault. The state is responsible for the mall location for shots being reopened, aren’t they? It should be the responsibility of local Republican pols to get their supporters to go there.
Elise Stefanik is too busy dancing on the grave of Chris Cuomo to help. I have a hard time seeing what Twitter trolling does to help northern NYers.
Ken, you are absolutely right. Last month I was in NYC where I felt safer with 17 million people than I do here in Washington and Warren counties with an overall population of less than 100,000. Why you ask? Because everyone in the city was masking up to go indoors and because you had to show your Vax card and ID to get into museums and restaurants.
I just don't why it is so difficult to do the same here on our small towns to protect all of those around us.
I, too, love the close observation, humor, curiosity, and knowledge of Henke's nature columns...although i often wonder why, given his clear love or our earth, he does not seem to support legislation around regulations of toxins or speak much, or at all, about global climate change and the crisis of extinctions.
What's interesting to see is how the main republican response to Covid is to blame Biden (who has tried all he can do in his capacity) and to support legal measures opposing mandates as a misuse of power, equating it with Nazi dictatorial overreach and rousing people to go to school boards to protest masks and vaccines... I would love our community leaders to speak against threats and violence against election officials, teachers, those in Congress and all who do not follow the words and desires of Trump, who contually chose to support the lie that Trump won, who are unable to care about democracy.
