We all need to remember that the vote for Harris/Walz and Trump/Vance was pretty evenly split. That’s easy to forget these days, when Trump and his supporters push the “mandate” falsehood, and as they gleefully revel in their slash-and-burn attacks against government programs and impose their authoritarian ideology on all of us.
When I say ‘we all need to remember’ the results of the 2024 election, I’m including Trump and his supporters. We all live in this country together; all our actions affect each other. And their actions are creating a resistance that is persistent and deeply-felt.
We’re not going to be quiet. And we’re not going away.
Thank you Wil. There IS something we can all do. WE CAN VOTE FOR BLAKE GENDEBIEN to replace Elise once she's confirmed for the United Nations!!! Above all else we need to VOTE. Honestly, I'm sick of our school taxes being voted in with under 500 votes being casted. As well, I'm sick of our local elections having only 25-30% turnout! We have big stuff happening here this year! our district is poised to take back the House..And if the dems get the house back, we can IMPEACH the criminal that's in the White House right now./ t all matters, and it's in our hands. Can you write more about or lack of interest in voting in this district? Thanks,
The quotes “Action Absorbs Anxiety” and “Don’t Worry Alone” are mantras manifested in the massive rallies repeated daily in large cities throughout our country, as well as in smaller towns and villages…where spirited citizens are becoming united and somewhat comforted in the simple knowing they are not alone… in the midst of the madness perpetrated by the current regime.
In the psychiatrist Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs” he included a sense of safety, and sense of belonging and purpose, (my simplification) along with basic physiological needs. That pyramid of human needs has been shaken by seismic multi-pronged attacks since Project 25 started at warp-speed just hours after the Inauguration ceremony… where tRump intentionally dropped his hand instead of placing it on the Bible.
But the “Power of One”, now multiplied by the thousands or hundreds, whether in downtown Glens Falls or Denver or D.C., is making a difference…just as your weekly writings remind us of the power of the human spirit in caring for Bella, taking joy in walking Ringo in the woods, and reminding us that the beauty of nature and the sense of belonging can be restored in slow strolls along a park path…or joining a march aimed at exercising our rights to free speech.
Thank you Will for starting our Sundays with your personal inspirational reflections.
Opposition and resistance can unite us and energize us. It also performs another vital service — it prevents us from normalizing the abnormal actions of an authoritarian leader. Accepting Trump’s treason will only perpetuate it.
The hardest thing for the ego to do is admit it was duped. Being wrong means you didn’t have good information. Being duped means you were a fool. When the shame turns to anger, that’s when the deprogramming can begin.
I started going to the protests in Salem several weeks ago, because doing something feels better than doing nothing. In my experience, although there are many cars that just drive past with no reaction at all, overall the honks and thumbs ups of support greatly outnumber the one finger salutes, and the ridiculous gunning of the giant pickup truck engines that I guess is what passes in the minds of certain young men (it always is younger men) as counter-protest. I just smile and say, “They must LOVE paying for gas and tires!!” One woman rolled down her window to shout “Thank you!” to the crowd. Is Donald Trump going to have a change of heart because 100 people are standing on a street corner in a small town? No, but my hope is maybe Trump voters who are feeling a little buyer’s remorse will see that they have another option. Every Saturday, from 10-11, and make sure you park legally (Salem is small, you may need to walk a ways) and safety first: don’t block the sidewalks or traffic. Nothing will hurt the cause more than being disruptive or disrespectful of people who are just trying to go about their day!
And one would hope as it slowly sinks through the low-information fools what a tax cut for the rich feels like when their Social Security, Medicare and personal freedoms are cut..
Sadly, what I have seem too many hmpy trmPedo supporters are two far out on the limb of lies to crawl back
How could they, after living 12 years a slave (to lies) it would not be easy for them to admit how dumb they have been.
ª 87 y.o. ‘that trump guy, I don’t know why anyone would not like an honest guy like that’ I suggested he not watch fox.. he act like that wasn’t true. A week later I told him that all the basketball games were on the CBS channel 3. His response: “I don’t know how to get it off the fox channel.’

witty signs are not going to stop an administration that ignore the rule of law and threaten judges that they don't like.
The bad news is how bad the present rule of Trump, Musk, Maga is--the illegal actions, the takeover of agencies, the use of power and threats to silence, to defund, to litigate..to make people afraid. A form of government terrorism by them and almost total silent complicity of the Republican party. The community response is uplifting--yesterday at the circle by the library there were about 60 people, like the people in Salem and around the US everywhere.the refusal to be silent about the taking away of so much that we love and need. I always love Forrest Hartley--his compassion, love, humor sweetness around his family of animals. His column talking about what has happened to his neighbor and community was exactly what so many of us feel: How could anyone support people whose greed and power are destroying so much of our democracy and our earth. what has happened and why and how can we resist.
Yesterday 5 young boys who had been shouting negative stuff from the road against our action came up to me and asked me why I was against Trump. I asked them if they really wanted to hear my thoughts or just scream their love of Trump. One young boy said he wanted to hear and I spoke to him.. I think of Baldwin's quote about willful ignorance--those that do not see and do not wish to see. I fear them, their violent ignorance and hate, but we are growing. My poster says: "You tried to bury us; you didn't know we were seeds." It's spring now...we are the seeds that grow...that is my hope. .
Perhaps the most frightening part of what's happening in D.C. is Trump's defiance of judicial orders. Congress has clearly taken a pass on exerting its authority. leaving the judiciary as the only alternative to fight Trump's illegal and unconstitutional actions. But who is going to enforce judicial decisions? Trump has control of the DOJ and the military. The only possible check on his power is Congress, which makes these midterm elections the most important in U.S. history. So, keep on eye on the closest races across the country and contribute to the candidate who is willing to speak up against the tyrant and take action to restore the checks and balances that our founding fathers and mothers put in place to protect our democracy. Senator Margaret Chase Smith said it best in 1950 when she spoke out against McCarthyism: "It is high time that we all stopped being tools and victims of totalitarian techniques—techniques that, if continued here unchecked, will surely end what we have come to cherish as the American way of life."
I agree. We're snowbirding and I can't wait to get back to the North Country next week. First on my to do list is to March down to Blake Gendebien's campaign office and volunteer. (I've sent $$, but I can't send that much and need to be more active.) Next is to join local protests! I'm eager to be doing something. I want to work with friends to save our country!
Apparently you will be stuck with Elise Stefanik for the time being. Is she not beauteous enough for the orange person occupying the White House? I’ll resume calling her offices again to say how grateful I no longer live in her district. . . .
It's encouraging to see the peaceful activism around the area. I sure got a kick out of the sign held up in Salem, perfect on several levels.

unfortunately.. as we saw on Jan6
lies and hate will unite the poorly educated..
and the dumber a person is, the more they believe they are right...
Part of the reason why they (like all cult members) fear being deprogrammed
The hardest thing for the ego to do is admit it was duped. Being wrong means you didn’t have good information. Being duped means you were a fool. When the shame turns to anger, that’s when the deprogramming can begin.
In the newspaper business there is a saying: "too good to check"
Usually you hear a story that is so outlandish you want it to be true...
with gQped republicans the saying is: "too what 'i want to believe' to be bothered by facts!"
Get up, speak up, act up. Make good and necessary trouble.

Will , thank you.
