When Betty Little was the senator, she limited these and I believe supported getting rid of the taxpayer funding for them all together.

Stefanik doesn't do much of anything for the money these folks have gotten. They write and submit the grants themselves. She decides who is worthy of a letter from her to support that grant. It's very strategic based on the votes she will acquire and how useful it would be to her personally. All very similar to other MAGA politicians. The world is made of givers and takers. We all know which category Elise is in.

DeSantis voted against hurricane relief for Sandy but of course expects help now so he can brag about how nicely he worked with Biden to save his state. Gaetz voted against relief for his own state. Rubio doesn't even bother to show up so he doesn't have to take responsibility for voting against a bill. Yet people continue to vote for these jokers.

Thanks for stating what I have always been saying: Stefanik takes credit for money she brings to our district after voting against the bills that awarded the funds. It's like taking credit for baking from scratch a Betty Crocker cake. But her lies are bigger than that and more dangerous.

The minimum efforts required by any representative in Congress is to have her staff assisting in the paperwork for service grants. Effective congressmen have competent staffs who can answer questions or state the congressman's leanings on the issues before them in the House. This is not the case with Stefanik's interns. And, by the way, when she touts the huge number of responses to individual outreach by her constituents it includes every phone call and visit to her office urging her to support a bill or to voice complaints about her votes or outrageous statements. Her response is the sending of a form letter stating she is "happy to serve you," and to tick-up the number of her responses. I've stopped calling.

Some good points here, especially about her public appearances. I can’t think of a public town hall meeting since the 2019 town hall in Kingsbury. Granted Covid was a concern in 2020 and 2021, but what is the excuse now?

And she screens callers for her telephone “town halls”.

Your journalism training, along with most every other reporter in the district, is failing you and us. Even after years of trying to hold Stefanik “accountable” (a word that has zero meaning in this context) you STILL give her benefit of doubt. You say “It’s been all down (hill) ever since” her refusal to pledge not to lie, but she started out by lying, was always a liar, and she was treated as normal and respectable. She didn’t live in the district (until recently) yet every paper printed “Stefanik, Willsboro” or something like it. She said she worked in the plywood business, an obvious farce and outside of political norms from the beginning, yet media treated her with an “even hand” - which is NOT even handed. When falsehoods were glossed over in the interests of being “fair” then ignored after being reported once or twice the collective narrative is shifted toward a higher acceptance of falsehood. You and the Post Star (notice I didn’t say just Ken Tingley, because unlike Stefanik I assume you do not take credit for everything the paper you worked for did) took some powerful stands in calling for a no-lies pledge, in creating a policy of not quoting Stefanik’s spokespeople who were lying and abusive. The ADK Daily Enterprise took the policy up. It would have been actual accountability journalism if all of our regional media joined in and if it remained permanent policy. But it faded.

Zach Hirsch fact checks Stefanik’s claims of delivering funding, credits her with delivering funding when it appears her involvement was writing letters of support. Honestly, that is pathetically backbending toward “fairness.” A congressperson writing a letter of support certainly has effect but a normal person, someone like Tonko, would say something like “we helped” not “I delivered.” He continues to normalize her lies, even in “accountability” journalism. I am certain Ken Tingley would never say “I wrote over 7,000 daily Post Star newspapers in my career.”

Stefanik understands that her words will be reported no matter how far fetched the claims because as our Representative anything she says is inherently newsworthy. Years ago reporters should have put a disclaimer at the front of every story about Stefanik noting that she persistently offers false or misleading information to constituents. It would be the truth and it would be fair to everyone because she NEVER works to correct the record when she is caught in a misstatement. It would be more like real accountability, but for some reason journalists act like it would be wrong in some way.

“she started out by lying, was always a liar, and she was treated as normal and respectable.”

Absolutely. She ran her first two campaigns on the con of “repeal and replace Obamacare” like most other Republicans. They all knew it was never going to happen because Obama was just going to veto everything that came to him. So, they didn’t have a replacement and didn’t need one until March 2017. Then they proved it was all a hoax by trying to pass off a dog’s breakfast to take the place of what was already popular and working. And thank you, John McCain for giving it the thumbs down it deserved.

Actually, we had a policy when I was editor to not quote spokespersons. It is sad to see it has returned.

I've continually pointed out for several years on her FB page that she has no hand whatsoever in the announcement, availability, application, review or award of any grant monies by any executive branch agency. She is a lying seditious traitor, now covering for a classified document thieving mob boss.

As Mr. McNally in 11th Grade English would have put it: "She lies like a rug."
