I agree with you Ken. Justice was not served by paroling him. Thanks for saying what needed to be said.

Dear Ken - You are so "correct," that justice has not been served. Shame on the parole board! Having worked as a research scientist on and around Lake George for the better part of 5 decades, the seed of the "West" problem germinated and has been growing ever since Interstate 87 was constructed back in the 1960s, opening up the area between Albany and Montreal for easy tourist access. Now, decades later, there are ~12,000-15,000 registered boats on Lake George and a state agency, the Lake George Park Commission, that does not have the manpower to regulate the traffic properly. Otherwise, the July 2016 incident could have had a different outcome. Perhaps another topic for another day.....

Hi Jim: I've been a summer resident my entire 70+ years and seen the recreational value decline due to over-use. Weekends it is not possible to sail or to kayak during the day because of too many speed boaters who do not respect others' space or who purposely intimidate you. It is so sad to see this beautiful place degraded. Susan Weber

I wonder if the only criteria for West's parole was to simply write an apology. Judging from West's and his companions actions on that fateful day, there was the opposite of remorse for their drugged and drunken actions. Is this what we're to expect from anyone committing a heinous crime? How else has West shown full responsibility for killing and maiming innocent people? Finch Paper is a mystery to me, that seems to be heavily guarded by those authorities more interested in fiscal dollars than the health and safety of the surrounding community. It is telling that you haven't been able "renew" your Post Star subscription. Apparently, the young lady has little awareness of the work you accomplished as their editor. Too bad she doesn't enjoy or need The Front Page as we do.

Finch was very involved in the community at one point, but it certainly decided not to be involved with the newspaper when I was there. I remember as sports editor trying to get them to sponsor all-star plaques and I could not get in the front door.

I'm sure the woman at the call center was in another state - or perhaps country - and had not idea where Glens Falls even was on the map. I have made a local connection and they are looking into the situation.

Good, I'm glad about that. Aside from BBC, I get snippets of international news from the Post Star that are generally not covered on other local TV reports.

Justice has been corrupted in America

And I would contend that a fair trial does NOT mean one without technical mistakes, unless that technical mistake was something like refusing DNA testing/results.

Imagine if the judge presiding over aleXander weSt's case was appointed by hmpy trmPEDOfile.. and that judge was told if he did not set west free his political career would be over and that trmPEDO would dox that judge and that would lead to hmpy's henchmen going after that judge

Wait, we don't have to imagine this. It happed before and it will happen again.

Your call to Finch's CEO and subsequent conversation with the PR firm is the way it should be.

I say this tongue-in-cheek or ironically.

With society we live in today, he is better off not responding to you.. not being honest or straight forward. Let's just say he is using the format that aleXander west and party used when they killed someone.. and after a small slap on the hand got away with it.

=======

I would compare this with the murder UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Killing is never right, including the death penalty... or death by united healthcare insurance refusal.

Somehow money has become more important than life; profit more important than saving lives; and money is a means cover all sins.

I couldn't believe it when I heard on the news that he was being released. He deserves to be incarcerated for life. I, too, hope he hears the screams every single day and night of his life.

The big question here is why was this Log Bay Day allowed to go on for years? Why didn't law enforcement shut it down? I first heard of it around 1999, My daughter went to it once for about 5 minutes, she hated it. She didn't drink and still doesn't. Why wasn't it shut down? Because our society embraces alcohol which causes so much grief and trouble and harms so many people. If it had been shut down as it should have been Charlotte would still be alive .

I went to Log Bay Day once and hated it, too. I always thought it should have been shut down years prior. The environmental reasons would have been enough to substantiate a cease, with safety as an added bonus.

Justice was denied to the family after that tragic death but the real issue is what the laws allow for in terms of sentencing for those charges. West should rot in prison for the rest of his life. Our system of justice is one of the best in the world, but situations like this (and the fact that Trump got away with January 6th) show that too often bad things happen and no real justice is done.

LMAO about the Finch Pruyn story. Am fairly certain that I know the PR firm you are referring to but most of us old Glens Falls folks have watched as they got paid big bucks to spin nonsense (especially for GE-PCB dredging and later the $34+ million GF hospital lies--a story you know too well), but that's the way of the world today. Ironically, today being January 6th and watching reruns of all the videos posted after the 2021 mob attack condemning Trump (with Lindsey Graham, McConnell and McCarthy in the spotlight lying), it just shows how PR works wonders with lots of $$$, time and gazillions of repetitions of carefully worded non explanations and fake news/factoids. My comment to Post Star article the other day about the newly appointed CEO implied that the timing of this change is a bit suspect due to the 20 year pulp deal made with the Land Conservancy at sale (2027 is the end) and that the parent company asset stripped Finch getting the paper making business at a steep discount back in 2007. Not surprised that the heirs to FP wanted out after 142 years because (as you know Essity shut down in the recent past and hauled out all the equipment), paper making in NYS with all it's environmental laws, rules, regulations, etc. combined with high labor costs, and the fact the large, new hi tech facilities in lower cost states and countries makes the future of this plan look questionable. Our Industrial Revolution manufacturing success stories along the Hudson River are nearly all gone now. GE, Sandy Hill, Hercules (Ciba Geigy), GF Cement Co., Essity (originally GF Paper) and most of those era businesses are gone. Joubert & White was one of the greatest buggy manufacturers in America located right here in GF until it wasn't? Happy New Year!

I wonder what now-retired Judge Hall thinks now about the window he left open for West’s potential release. And I wonder what the composition of that parole board is…only 3 people…? Women/men/mothers/fathers?

I hope West is hounded by the press…though sadly there are not too many reporters left to pursue this story.

How sad that he gets to go on and live his life when his actions took the life a young girl. I hope he will have learned and suffered from his actions. An insult to her life and family.

That CEO made a mistake not having lunch with you. He could have learned so much about the region and its people. He can stay in his ivory tower. Nice of you to welcome him though.
