Simply Put wrote: “10 MM ++ illegal immigrants have been allowed into our Country during the Biden-Harris admin.”
That seemed liked an unrealistically-high number to me, at first glance. And you cite no source.
So I looked at a recent study on the unauthorized immigrant population in the U.S., and I found there’s an estimated 10,990,000 total unauthorized immigrant population in U.S. as of 2022, per a DHS study released in April, 2024. Note that’s not the number "allowed into our Country during the Biden-Harris admin.” Rather, it’s the total currently residing in the U.S., having entered over decades. Quite a difference.
So let’s talk about lies and embellishment: Where did you some up with your 10 million+ figure of "illegal immigrants… allowed into our Country during the Biden-Harris admin.” Do you have a valid source for your claim?
It’s clear you have no source for your claim that “10 MM ++ illegal immigrants have been allowed into our Country during the Biden-Harris admin.” And you only cite "border encounters," which is far different from "illegal immigrants have been allowed into our Country."
When commenters present false claims, it’s clear they have no case and are simply unpersuasive. In doing so, they show us who they are.
Dude, I couldn't wade through your BS once I got to the inflation part. While true the CPI is down to 2.9%, that does not factor in food and energy both of which are up way higher than that in the last 4 years. Everyone has an agenda, including you. So don't piss down my back and tell me its raining. I am neither Democrat or Republican as they are just opposite sides of the same coin
The CPI for July 2024 (as reported on August 14) was 314.54 (no units, it's an index number.) It rose by 2.9% from its value last July 2023. Please see this AI generated summary statement of all official sources to learn more about it.
You may also want to go to www.bls.gov and look for Consumer Inflation, under "Subjects", to see information from the actual source. The latest press release shows that the CPI without food and energy rose by 3.2%.
Fact checking allegations, per Ken's timely recommendation.
Well at least the rain is warm..... Really, economies are measured in multi-faceted ways and inflation is just one aspect of it. Yes, prices are up - not as much as they were - and as someone who lived through the inflation of the 1980s, to have gone two decades without any is pretty remarkable so this generation might find inflation disconcerting. So I stand by my assertion the economy is good despite the high prices and I would agree I have a bias - toward politicians telling the truth. I think we should all be biased in this regard.
find the ones telling the truth and you have your answer
but why should we expect politicians to tell the truth, when we don't hold them accountable.. and when posters on the internet are no more honest than the politicians ??
I don't remember the clear and obvious price gouging in the 1980's...
But on an ironic note: I noticed a stat or graph about inflation and when ronnie reagan was president (cough1980scough) inflation was high, the deficit climbed, as did the size of government... and we were told by republicans, that is what fiscal conservative was...and never during that time did I feel wealth trickling down upon me.
We bought our first home in 1985 or so and the fixed rate wasd 12.5 percent. Now that was inflation. My best friends bought a couple years earlier at around 18.
Inflation affects different people in different ways, and is harder on lower income people than higher income people. But it’s easy to distort the effects of inflation if you only focus on costs. What often gets lost in discussions about cost-of-living inflation is the corresponding increase in wages and salaries that offsets costs:
"Since 2019, which is the year people usually cite when saying that things used to be better, consumer prices have risen 22.6 percent, which has many people upset. But average hourly wages have gone up 25.3 percent, while wages for nonsupervisory workers are up 28.2 percent." (Paul Krugman, NYT, 8/20/2024)
We typically view things through an emotional lens, and just see the increase in the cost of items at the supermarket and don’t take into account the increase in our income.
Back in 2011, when Trump was considering a run for president, he laid the groundwork for his lies about Barack Obama's birthplace. "I want him to show his birth certificate. There is something on that birth certificate that he doesn’t like," Trump said in a televised interview.
Trump revealed from the beginning exactly who he was, at least to those who were paying attention.
Because it is.. maybe you need to read about dog whistles.
Just like when you talk about a dog whistle when you train a dog, it isn't racist, but when you are talking about it to signal a person is black and should be hated..
the birthers did not 'just' question where he was born, they questioned his religion, his associations... it isn't a crime to be the son of an immigrant; it isn't a crime to be Muslim (which Obama isn't); It isn't a crime point out racism in our country (yes your q-nation suggested Obama created racism in America because he pointed it out).

Dan Stec has promised to fight for better cell and broadband coverage every single election for a very long time with no discernible results for his efforts. His arguments always seem to center on the APA. But the APA is simply a regulatory body. It is not a law of physics, a technology researcher, nor is it an actual service provider.
There are numerous difficulties with providing better service, most come down to investment in infrastructure. Providers hide behind the arguments of Stec and others to avoid improving technology and expanding service. “Substantially invisible” can mean many things. It can mean shorter towers, or taking advantage of more structures within Hamlet areas. It’s a jigsaw puzzle. You complete it a little at a time with multiple strategies for individual spots.
Meanwhile, at my business on Corinth Rd in Queensbury, not in the Park, Inwas conducting business on the phone last week and the call dropped. No service. My guess is that there is a bandwidth issue and that would need to be resolved by either the service provider spending more money on equipment, or me trying my call again next winter when there aren’t so many tourists here using cell service.
I don’t know where the Governor was, but I suspect she may have had a similar problem. And so, Stec’s complaint about the APA would be illustrated by the situation.
My modest proposal: service providers must pro-rate their billing depending on the amount of time each individual phone lacks service. Why should I have to pay for 24/7 service nationwide when that is not the service I am being provided?
I'm sure it was a trap, but I criticize Mr. Stec somewhat regularly so for him to be on board with more cell phone coverage I felt was at least worth a mention. But you would think this would be an easy issue to fix if it is just a matter of changing APA policy. I remember the great debates over the Frankenpines when they were first proposed. Seems sort of silly in retrospect.
The point is that Stec’s complaints about APA policy is a smokescreen for his lack of effective action. The APA isn’t the problem in most of Queensbury. Or really, even the well populated areas of Lake George.
The question to Stec should be: how many cell tower permits has the APA rejected in the last month? Year? State senate term?
Has it been 100? 50? 10? 1?
Ask Dan Stec what he has done, as a trained engineer, to find ways to push those approvals through? Has he offered alternative locations? Height restrictions? Visual buffer ideas?
Stec isn’t calling out the unwillingness of service providers to invest in infrastructure his constituents rely on. We are all being sold a product that does not perform to the expectations we were sold. “Can you hear me now?”
We are being defrauded on a massive scale and telecom execs are happy to have people like Stec blame government regulation rather than putting heat on providers.
And don’t forget that Warren County supervisors are hoping to raise county sales tax by 33.333% which will raise everyone’s phone service bill by $1-$2 per month.
I am not sure that is true.. I remember some grants, that went to providers.
Like too many grants to corporations, there were no strings, nor checks and balances... and no way to prove they used that funding for its intended source
(i.e. did they extend the cable lines to reach out into the boonies, or did they use the funding to switch to fiber optics or other ways the service of the folks who already had it, then increase their charges.
Stefanik has mastered the art of deception. One only has to read her weekly newsletter to see for themselves. Stefanik uses the phrase, "through the appropriation process" to claim credit for funding of projects that were made possible by legislation she voted against. thanks again, Ken. One of my bumperstickers: :"You are entitled to your opinions, not your facts." It is not being biased, or partisan to report what is factually true. It is not a witch-hunt when judges and juries find you guilty of crimes. It is true that some people are so locked into a belief system following a false god, that facts and information never enter. Baldwin speaks of "those who do not see and do not wish to see." Another bumpersticker: "Minds are like parachutes, they only function when open." When I hear people speak what is true--speaking about their experiences of the heart and their understanding of their mind--i am always touched by honesty and depth, by courage and by caring. When I hear lies--for power, for greed --I think it important to name, resist... thank you, Ken, for naming what is going on.
1) it IS balanced journalism to ignore misinformation and not (for example) pit a climate scientist against ted cruz... Too often journalism:
a) feels the need to have two sides arguing, when one side is lying and/or wrong
b) feels it needs to have someone else point out misinformation, instead of just interrupting and saying that is wrong (i.e. lies about climate change, or general lies by a liar (pos_tfnKKK)
2) having an opinion doesn't mean you have a right to promote it, or the media allow that person the promote that opinion
3) there is no counterbalance to facts (i.e. k.a. conway = 'alternative facts.'
sometimes we have to watch out for the 'new normal'
{{be that of knowing hmpy trmPEDO is oging to lie, but still allowing him to speak unchecked, or we need cellphones everywhere}}
In 1973, we had the ability to run telephone lines on all trails in the Adirondacks, which would have kept a few hikers from dying and/or allowed them to call and congratulate politicians.
People would have said the APA stopped them, but really it would have been costs and the fact many environmental groups would have revolted
I am seeing cellphone towers in many places (to be frank most towns have towers for the first responders and the occasional radio station (plus police radios, to pretend like these things haven't existed is kind of dishonest).
Indian Lake has good cell service, they didn't 15 years ago.. The main reason there wasn't service was Verizon didn't want to spend the money.. Then when they did want to spend the money they had to spend MORE because a property owner would not let them drive a truck across their property without a fee.
Stec is doing what republicans do, 'it's the boogie man's fault' instead of being an effective legislator and solving problems.
both stecn and pos_tfnKKK represent districts that do not have high speed internet (that don't have any internet)... that too is not the boogie man's (apa) fault. And those that do have internet there are many individuals that live at a poverty level and can not afford it.
Sometimes we have to admit the boogie man is ineffective politicians
Related: often stench and pos_tnKKK believe a solution is to pad the wealth of a corporation (giving them a grant) and think they will pass that onto the consumer...
I couldn’t help but think of Elise while watching Alexandria-Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett Monday night at the DNC Convention. I only wish she had half their integrity, judgement and courage.
Let's not forget the courage of some of the republican women, Cassidy Hutchinson, Liz Cheney, and Monday evening, Stephanie Grisham former Press Secretary for Donald Trump who was the first to resign from the Trump administration following Jan 6. So many former associates and cabinet members (those not in jail) came out against another Trump term. Michael Luttig, former federal judge appointed by George H W Bush, will vote for Harris because members of his party “have chosen as their standard bearer the one man who is singularly unfit to embody and represent not only to the Nation, but to the world, America’s sacred Democracy, Constitution, and Rule of Law.” All this matters not to a significant electorate in our United States.
Reporting the truth and calling out lies is not a matter of fairness, it is a matter of accountability. Thank you for addressing this, you are in the right.
When supposedly unbiased truth-based reporters and their outlets take sides they descend to the level of the liars that they claim to expose. When this mess ends, and the media is one of the key causes for that mess as they try to gen up subscriptions and clicks to make up for lost ad revenues, the only news sources remaining will be those that upheld their ethical standards. It is OK IMO to say that "DJT said x, which is a lie", or "DJT is a convicted felon", but not OK to say "DJT is a mentally unbalanced serial liar", even though probably true. It would be an unproven, disputable, and therefore biased statement that would diminish the writer or speaker in the eyes of his or her audience.
I take your point. But are there reporters and news outlets stating "DJT is a mentally unbalanced serial liar"? I know there are commentators doing so, but are news outlets doing that?
When criticizing the media, I always hope the person will define the media they are talking about. Cable News? Naitonal newspapers? Small-town community newspaper? You can't lump them all in together. The reporters and editors I worked with over the years were always committed to telling the truth and getting their facts right and didn't give a damn about clicks and views, although the corporate braintrust was.
One of things that the gQpeds do (and democrats to some extent) is avoid making the best use of government (Mr. Parwana has pointed some of these things out).. Here is an example (I don't have details on the numbers, but the essence of the story is correct as I know it):
Indian Lake Central School was installing a distance learning system so students could take other classes not offered at ILCS, but in other BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services) districts.
ILCS put out a request for bids. BOCES said they could do bring in a T3 line for $50,000. Another internet business (I think the name was something like 'Adirondack Technologies') bid was $10,000.
Besides the price there was an interesting factor. BOCES could bring in the internet but (by law) they could not share or sell it to anyone in the community. Adirondack Technology, who probably lowballed the bid, could sell the internet to the community. In essence they were giving the school a break, but hoping to profit off of community members buying internet from them. A win for the school. A win for the community.
So the obvious choice would be to go with Adirondack Technology, right.. school saves $40,000 AND the small community would have access to high-speed internet (how great that would have been during CoVid).
In some kind of 11th hour deal, the state of New York came up with a $32,000 grant for BOCES (not Adirondack Technology) which made the cost $8,000 for the school...and the school went with BOCES.
They shut Adirondack Technology out of the competition, as well as the community getting high-speed internet. To do so, in the name of saving taxpayers money, they used taxpayer’s money to pay for that.
Sometimes we need to find a way to save ourself from the government.
Penciled into today's article should be the fact that pos_tfnKKK has not just refused to debate Paula Collins, but wouldn't even respond to the Adirondack Daily News' request..
I guess pos_tfnKKK did now want to lower herself.. and since Ms. Collins doesn't have the level of exposure of a presidential race, there is no way to goat pos_tfnKKK into it.
Stefanik has never challenged any GOP statement to my knowledge. I am not a constituent in her district, but weigh in as an American citizen who watches votes since the congressional votes affect us all. Her votes appear to be lockstep with what Trump tells her to do. When he told
Congress not to pass a bi-lateral bill to establish a new border position she fell in line, possibly as part of her apparent failed effort to be named as his running mate. She, like many other kiss up GOP legislators who forgot who brought them to the dance.
It has become increasingly difficult to separate editorial comments, guest commentary, and linked sources from the actual news. Obvious bias has crept into editorial choices, e.g., what goes “above the fold”, story headline choices, moving quotes from biased sources to the top of a story and facts that may contradict the quotes to the bottom, and so on. The NY Times, a paper I have trusted for almost 70 years, is a prime example. I would cancel our subscription if my wife were not addicted to their food and puzzle sections. But soon, so long Grey Lady.

3) there is no counterbalance to facts (i.e. k.a. conway = 'alternative facts.'
sometimes we have to watch out for the 'new normal'
{{be that of knowing hmpy trmPEDO is oging to lie, but still allowing him to speak unchecked, or we need cellphones everywhere}}
I only wish she had half their integrity, judgement and courage.
ha.. even 1/10th would be nice...
I firmly believe she and most gQpedos can't
If they researched the reality and facts... and accepted them, they would have to be Democrats, not 'banana republicans'
So many of the people who have implicated Trump with wrong-doing were Republicans in his administration. That's not politics.
Grisham was amazing last night... and unlike so many republicans.. an insurrection was too much for her.
Read Hutchinson's book, very great story
'probably true'?
what has to happen for it to be true???
