Yes, we are about to enter one the darkest periods in American history. The flags should be are flying at half staff in honor of President Jimmy Carter for the entire month. Instead, over the Capital on Monday, Republicans have decided to make an exception. This is an absolute embarrassment. The flag will be raised to honor the sociopathic narcissist who is felon, an adulterer, a seditionist , a cheat and more. Instead of raising the flag on Inauguration Day, it would be more appropriate to fly it upside down. If we are to survive the next four years, America is going to need a huge wake up call and Devine intervention.

Yes Ken you said this so well.

I fear the leadership coming in.

All I hear is that good things are going to happen. I've a lady I work with she had supported his first presidency with gusto.

She is happy he is coming back to office.

I'm scared of what's to come. I so tried to reason explaining nicely, how taxes had gone down on the wealthy while things

have slowly gotten more and more expensive for the working class. ..she replied.. that in essence I needed to stop being so selfish. That Democrats are selfish

because we're only thinking of ourselves.

A person who I share my house of worship

with quietly stated, he's our best option

for president considering the option.

You said in your piece... Donald Trump didn't do that alone. Those 77 million supporters allowed this to happen....

Be assured I'll fight on. I'll resist where and when I can. You said it so well,it's immoral.

All the while they have traded the truth for a one of the many lies he has spoken.

Take it slow Ken.

In Pres. Biden's last speech, he mentioned oligarchy at the end. Someone commented that Ollie Garc was Googled many times. Seriously, does anyone believe that our educational system is possibly lacking in some way?

On the other hand, maybe it means these Googlers (!) listened to the entire speech before that.

They aren't people I even want to know.

January 6th sealed EVERYTHING for me. How people claim it to be something different than what my own eyes saw goes beyond my comprehension.

I do not have any close friends who voted for him.....I did once but they are long gone.

I veer away from people wearing red, white and blue....or vehicles with stickers of giant eagles heads on them . The dreaded red hat makes me feel sick.

At my part time job, which directly deals with customer service, some people have tried to talk MAGA to me. I won't, can't even have discussion about it. I know they can tell by my face what I'm thinking. I'm done preaching to them. They are my enemy....they've voted for an administration that won't acknowledge that my daughter is a woman. I can't forgive that and no longer am interested in repairing lost relationships or explaining how this affects me to people.

They don't care.

I'm no longer a solid blue voter, (certainly not a Republican), because they too have let us down by not standing up and fighting harder to preserve our rights.

Look at the whole Garland investigation. Dragging his feet...I'm so sorry that he was appointed.

We need people in government to stand up and shout that this is wrong!

America is fake.

Capitalism is king.

Half of America believes in hate, misogyny, bigotry and corruption.

What will happen to us?

Is anyone brave enough to say all these things to the people who literally sold their fellow Americans out??

It's going to be a long four years , and we will see how America does under oligarchs and extremists.

I hear you, I hear you and I hear you loud and clear, and agree with your sentiments. I too have such anger and despair, so I’ve been looking for a way to channel that anger into something positive before I burst. I wake up every day with a pit in my stomach and so I have been working hard to figure out something positive to focus on.

I’ve always been an upbeat and optimistic person, a cup 1/2 full person…, yet my sense of joy, since the election, seems to be quite dampened…,

I found a small, local Democratic group where I am hoping to find some kind of direction, I met these people for the first time last weekend, less than 10 people total. I live in a very red area, quite remote so there’s very little contact with other people If you choose privacy by staying on your own property, other than occasional trips into town.. I’m now thinking the way out of this despair and rage may start with Community, so that’s what I plan to do, somehow reach out to people in my community to begin some positive and nurturing way forward. No talk of politics, but rather just what we have in common, that being kind, caring, and open hearted human beings who desire & need the same requirements for a healthy & happy life; good air, good water, good food, a need to be needed, love and a peaceful surrounding. Then the political philosophy & discourse can fall into place when my neighbors start to trust me, and I start to trust them. It will take time..,

I still believe there is more good than evil in our world , certainly a much healthier way forward than giving up. As that’s what they want us to do, give up…,

Hang in there people, as Joyce Vance says when she signs off from her daily post,, “we are in this together“, and as Dan rather says at the end of his essay “stay steady“. Dan Rather has stayed focused and steady for 93 years! He’s quite the role model.

This maniacal administration will fail, sadly we will have to likely witness some ugly fall out along the way, but giving up and giving in is not an option. Stay hopeful friends.

I would like for a person to be a citizen of the district FIRST, not as a seat hopper (or shopping). But I would also circle back to the re-districting or more to the point, partisan gerrymandering.

But I am often looking to solve problems at the core. For example: if you could made districts fair.. and not inevitable that the incumbent will always win and (or because of) get tons of lobbyist dollars, you will force candidates to be more accountable to his/her constituents.

As my understanding of this goes... they kicked the can around about the district lines.. and didn't fix it... and all the consequences of that took place.. one of which, with moving lines.. you can't expect (or is it fair) a candidate to live in a district.. that maybe they did, until the lines were moved.

I would be interested in seeing someone like Mr. Tingley or Ms. Paula Collins (who probably have more experience with this -- and with Ms. Collins the legalities) to take a deeper dive into this issue

Couldn't agree more, Ken.

Seventy-seven million Americans voted for a man who vowed revenge and retribution against those who "dared" to stand up against him, or for merely doing their civil duty, like the jurors in NYC did, when presented with the evidence.

Trump's henchmen and nominees are determined to destroy the civil service and remove Federal employees who are not sufficiently loyal or show fealty to the "dear leader", by firing them or making life so miserable for them to "encourage" them to resign.

Trump attacks America's allies, such as Canada and Denmark. Both nations who did not hesitate one moment to send their own citizens to fight and die alongside America' men and women after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.

These 77 million gave immense power to one man, who believes he has no obligation to uphold the Constitution and knows he has no chance of being held accountable, especially after the US Supreme Court's ruling that a president has pretty much full immunity on "official" actions taken.

As MAGA world melts down and rages about Michelle Obama not attending the inauguration on Monday, they ignore the fact that Trump refused to attend Joe Biden's four years ago.

But, then again, facts and reality do not matter to MAGA world members. They see Trump, literally, as their "savior". They worship him and will obey his commands, regardless of the harm and cruelty that his "commands" will bring.

I for one, am terribly fearful of what is to come as of noon on Monday.

And for me the most telling moment of the funeral was how mEvilania sat there, staring ahead, not talking to anyone, certainly not her sugar daddy. totally aware of her and her husbands evil.

We sometimes hear that a voter chose Trump because they thought the alternative was worse. But I don’t buy that.

First, Republican primary voters in 2016 and 2024 had numerous Republican alternatives that were arguably more fit choices than the demonstrably unfit Trump. They chose Trump.

Second, if you cast your ballot for Trump, you’re endorsing all of him — his treason, his lack of ethics, his criminality, his lies. You are enabling his re-election. The negative consequences are on your hands.

But what has puzzled me most has been those people who are attracted to the movement and have succumbed to it. People who are normally decent and kind, whom I love and respect and claim as my own.

All I can determine is that they watch too much Fox, and accept it as gospel, along with the notion that “greed is good.”. Also, MAGA has stirred within them the flames of fear—essentially fear of the Other. (The Good Book says that “perfect love casts out fear”).

In response, all I can be and do is to remain a person of hope. Be vigilant. Be informed. Advocate and act for love, justice, and peace in my daily living, both in my personal relations and in the public square. And, no matter how imperfectly, seek to live by the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, and self-control.

Forgive me, if that sounds preachy, but it’s a post-occupational hazard of this old, retired preacher. And, as a friend who owned a waste disposal business would say, “Those are my sediments.”
