After her partners in crime pled guilty and seeing the surmounting evidence, Ellis caved too. Obviously, she isn’t stupid but to claim that she was duped and shedding crocodile tears is ridiculous. She knew exactly what she was doing and if the seditionists had been successful she would have gladly taken a bow.
Respect, professionalism, honesty. Just a few of the things that have been lost since Trump. I realize honesty has always been a concern in politics but never have we seen such blatant disregard for the truth. "Spin" has become the norm. More than Trump I blame Fox for these changes. They could have chosen not to lead their viewers in this direction. We can go back to Roger Ailes and lay so much of this at his feet. His karmic debt is yet to be determined.
Fox deserves a big part of the blame. The goal was to provide a viewpoint at the beginning and nothing wrong with that, but it has become a propaganda machine during its prime time entertainment shows.
Whether we like the work of journalists or not, they are critical to our Democracy. Journalists uncover the truth as to what is happening in the world. They find the news and they force Gov't to react, and often criminal acts are brought to the surface by them. As to the current refusals by the GOP members in the house to respond to the press at a press briefing, there is a reason for that and I believe it is the journalists who will get the reasons and report it to us. For us the answer is still the ballot box. Our children and grandchildren need us to vote.
Couldn’t help but notice that Elise was the devil on Johnson’s left shoulder while Foxx was telling the reporter to shut up. It’s not just the men in the GOP that are enemies of democracy and the free press. Those questions about the Big Lie over the election are likely not going away and telling reporters who ask about it to shut up isn’t going to make the issue go away.
The Lie can continue to live in the GOP. It can’t exist in our courts. Thank God. We’re on the eve of trials in Georgia and DC that are going to expose it. The courts are the one place left in this country where lies are not allowed. I can’t wait to see what happens when those worlds collide. House Republicans standing by the Lie while courts are exposing it and Trump minions are being convicted for doing essentially the same as Jordan, Johnson, Stefanik and others did in promoting it.
I’m an optimist. The red tsunami that Stefanik constantly brayed was going to happen in 2022 led to a 4 seat Republican majority. Many say that was a result of people voting on abortion and democracy.
Now, they’ve put in a speaker who literally touted the same nonsense conspiracy theories as Sidney Powell and sees the Handmaid’s Tale as a game plan. And that’s without getting into his views on social security.
There has been a history of Trump and Trump aligned politicians treating reporters who are women and especially women of color in a manner that no decent person, certainly not good Christians, would treat another human being.
Leadership of the Republican Party are out of touch with the basic founding principles of our nation, out of touch with their own religion, and driving a mental health crisis that is tearing America and the world apart. Some may think that is hyperbole. It is not.
Heckling and not engaging with the reporter is a sign of things to come. Authoritarians destroy the free press. We cannot let them get away with that. I don’t know exactly how to stop them, but we need to keep calling it out.
Great article! I too am very disappointed that they didn’t receive prison terms. They did a lot of damage to the American psyche I feel. I remember how frightening it was to me when Powell and Juliani confidently tried to push their views on Americans.

Well Said.
“We have met the enemy and he is us”...ever true.

And what will regular people believe. Right now, I’m not sure.

Reporter Rachel Scott is a woman of color.

Johnson and the rest of the cult's let's just move on approach isn't going to save them from indictment.
A bad week for some lawyers, but a good week for the rule of law!
