I would think this is an opportunity for the GOP to get someone more solidly moderate and away from the MAGA extreme. Despite it being an opportunity, that doesn’t mean they will take that step or have the courage to embrace the old Republican philosophy. They have had multiple occasions to make this break but have not had the fortitude.

I agree that this is probably a long shot.

Sedition Stefanik’s main concern was and is self interest. She does nothing without that calculation. It is obvious to those of us who pay attention to her antics that she is attempting a maneuver to take the Gavel. No Democratic representative will vote for her and therefore she would need a total endorsement of her party. The chaos that exists within Republican majority would make that almost impossible not unless she sells her soul as Kevin McCarthy did and everyone knows how that ended.

She sold her soul a while ago. I guess she’ll have to find some other leverage.

Stealing a quote from a cartoon, "My desire to remain informed is at odds with my desire to remain sane". I sometime understand how Alice felt after her decent into the madness that was her rabbit hole. How on earth does anyone ,let alone an 18% majority support her?

Few steps ahead of you here Ken!! I've been saying this for months. Seditious StefaniQ has her plans all laid out- become Speaker, impeach Biden AND Harris, on fake pretexts, become POTUS.

Sound far fetched? Think back on the YEARS of her caterwauling about Biden- from the moment he started to run. She has been silent on Harris because the backlash of calling out her blatant racism would be huge- but make no mistake, there will be SOMETHING she & Roger Stone, Bannon, et al, drum up. We already know she is a whote supremacist- another Lil dirty secret hiding under her cheesy grins & private school.veneer.

She knows she could NEVER run for POTUS on an actual campaign- too many hate her, she doesn't have the personality, and she cannot win an in person discussion, even with young teens.

Potentially a government shut down in, is it 43 days?

We have local elections in 34 days.

Early voting starts in 24 days.

Absentee ballots are already in voters hands.

Remember in early January 2021 local Supervisors refused to support a resolution from Craig Leggett to positively assert that Joe Biden was the rightfully elected President?

Do voters know that Warren County is still under a state of Emergency over the issue of immigrants?

This seditious traitor, one of the "unindicted co-conspirators" who worked diligently to deny voters their voice through lawfully cast ballots on Jan 6, continues to push this same message two years later. The cult fantasy carried between the ears of this wench now threatens New Yorker's voting rights, as she and other voting rights deniers file suit to combat the “Early Mail Voter Act”. Red states, districts and representatives lose when voters have more opportunity to vote, so it's understandable that they feel this is a threat - but only to them. Once again, the cult is a victim. This is about a Constitutional right, infringing upon it and in some cases eliminating it. The most interesting part of this charade is their evidence of it being abused. There isn't any to their advantage. 2 years later, there still isn't any bamboo in the ballots. State cult legislatures have given up pursuing it, yet the claim remains. If you were to flip through the actual criminal cases involving voter fraud throughout the past five years, you would find that in the vast majority, fraudulent votes cast were done so by cult members. This occurs here and there throughout the nation, but certainly not on the scale that would in any way influence an election. So now we hear whisperings about a seditious traitor possibly being Speaker of the House, second in line of succession to the Presidency of the United States. Someone who began her political career with a lie, built it upon lies, conspired in the big lie and continues lying every time she steps to the microphone. If the brief example of inability to govern over the past nine months isn't enough to convvince you this is wrong, imagine bumping the crazy up.

Wow! Such a good article! Glad I get this. She’d be terrible as Speaker. More MAGA stuff. Will not validate last election. She’s a real threat to our democracy!

I take issue with Pablo Manriquez' assessment ... I unmuted her Twitter this morning and took a gander at what she's been saying there. Still sh**posting. Then I muted her again.

“Speaker @kevinomccarthy and the House GOP have consistently delivered strong results for the American people. I support Speaker Kevin McCarthy as we continue to work to save America from the Far Left Democrats led by Joe Biden.”

Thanks for putting that up. I don’t read Xitter anymore. It’s amazing how much bald faced, gaslighting nonsense will fit in one bleat.

The way I remember it is that results such the infrastructure bill, the CHIPS Act, the insulin capped at $35 and on and on were a result of President Biden’s WH.

Also, old enough to remember infrastructure being a long running joke during the Trump administration. And the “terrific” health care plan that never arrived. The promises that Covid would magically go away in “two weeks” once every fortnight or so.

Moving on to the saving America from President Biden (which she disrespectfully refuses to call him) and the “far left Democrats.” Is she aware that McCarthy lost his job for twice making deals to keep government funded?

So, apparently the Democrats are not so “far left” that they don’t want to keep the government running and border agents among many others in federal employ receiving paychecks. What would she call the group of anarchists and nihilists on the right who would just as soon burn it all down? Does she root for the Joker against Batman?

In my dreams, she becomes speaker. She wouldn’t get the votes and probably doesn’t want it anyway. She’s no Nancy Pelosi and she knows it. It’s a death warrant for Republicans. Ask Boehner, Ryan and soon McCarthy. One way back to the private sector.

I’m waiting for Trump, Stefanik et al to accuse Democrats of being in disarray. Because it’s always projection.

In her last campaign ad, bankrolled by the NRA, E-lies posed like Annie Oakley of the Adirondacks, holding a rifle up, then a nanosecond later holding her toddler son in the same arms, like a GOP Madonna with child. She ultimately morphed into the mime of a gangster moll from the 1940's movies, determined to stand by her Monster-man, deriding the "Feds" and other law and order agencies, even her own state Governor. As her hero Herr Trump amassed more indictments, I wondered if she was eyeing the governorship as another career path. But as her bullish behavior escalated during the hearings yesterday, and in reading Ken's column today, I believe she is delusional enough to believe she is worthy of becoming "Queen of the House" now. I think she will stop at nothing to ascend to that throne, grab that gavel... and further defile our democracy. Scary scenario.

I’ve never seen that ad. I’m gong to have to try to find it.

I have sent numerous emails to Elise with the assumption that she will have the courtesy to respond and answer my questions. However, I still have yet to hear from her.

I just learned the she and her husband have joined the Glens falls Country Club. Am curious how she will be able make her minimum requirement spending at CC if she is working so hard in D.C. for her constituents. That shouldn't leave her much time to be in the "north country".

Even with a salary of $174,000, I imagine the country club membership would be a strain on the budget. Heck, I didn’t know she had the time to play golf or make the drive up from Schuylerville.
