The man is subhuman.......another image that has stayed with me is the time he mocked a physically challenged reporter. I hope more charges are brought against him.

This quote came to mind this weekend, reading all of the dissembling and lying about Arlington:

I was not aware of the cemetery fiasco until Saturday, and by then it was all over the place and the Republicans had an oppertunity to formulate their response to the latest outrageous thing that dear leader had said or done. So I watched as Sen. Cotton on Sunday morning complain that Joe Biden had been invited to the "ceremony honoring"...but decided to go to the beech instead. Ms. Harris was in her "mansion" five miles away. I wish that Anthony Fauci would hurry up with the Pinocchio virus so we can at least have a laugh as these fools denigrate themselves to a point I had previously thought to be impossible. Mad magazine didn't fold, they became the Republican National Committee.

That photo is stunning Ken-just gorgeous with the white snow and wreaths. Trump cheapens our most sacred and precious at all levels-Arllington, Bibles, marriage, God., honesty, integrity, truth, dignity. Unfortunate? Really? Is that the reaction any other American would have gotten if they had done the same? Why is he never held accountable for his actions? He's replaced with many our American flag with Trump flags. I can only pray this November puts a dent in the damage this terrible many has done to our country and people.

Well said, Ken.

The sad incident at Arlington National Cemetery should be a career ending affront for Trump. I read somewhere that being President of our country is the most altruistic job in the world. Caring about not only Americans but also about world order and peace requires incredible moral strength. Trump exhibits a lack of humanity, as well as lack of understanding of the meaning of the term "service to others." He should have never been elected to any public office.

Having a moral character - a desire to always do the "right" thing - should be the one overriding principle when deciding who to vote for.

"Trump thanked the family members for their statement via social media. “Thank you for saying you wanted me to stand with you ... and take pictures, that it was your request, not mine,” he wrote." (AP)

Listen closely to Trump’s words. Hear the singular thread in his speech. It’s in the fabric of his falsehoods. It’s in the lies fashioned out of whole cloth.

As you listen, Trump’s worn-out garments begins to unravel. His stained clothing falls away and he’s naked for all to see. The aspiring emperor has no clothes.

Trump’s only art is convincing the gullible he’s a well-dressed oratorical genius.

Trump’s and his “team”’s action should not be defended. It is unfortunate that he has coerced the Gold Star families not just into defending him, but attacking Harris. It does not honor their lost loved ones. The whole thing is just a debacle. Trump has succeeded in sullying Arlington Cemetery. America loses again.

As an aside to the whole "Trump fiasco" in the cemetery, and while your photo is beautiful and the sentiment sweet... the actual "Wreaths Across America" wreath laying movement kind of repulses me. While WAA is considered a legitimate charity, it was established by the Worcester Wreath Co., who remain the sole supplier of those wreaths, at a profit of approx. $30 million last year. Sure seems like another massive conflict of interest to me.

I believe I read an article about this several years ago. I guess it wasnt considered an "issue" and just put aside!!

Sort of seems to be the usual currently - corporate profit. Something which sure does need to be addressed and from what I've been reading and seeing - the head of the FTC is trying to do just that.

Donald Trump is the personification of the seven deadly sins. The diabolical sociopathic narcissist doesn’t think any rule applies to him. We have seen time and time again how he has deliberately thumped his nose at the norms that have been in place since this land became the United States of America. If he is willing to defile the sanctity of Arlington, he will do anything to achieve his goals. We have already seen what he is capable of . If he does return the Oval Office in 2025, there will be no stopping him. The America, although not perfect, will be changed for ever. Our democracy will be forever a faint memory in our history books .

That is something my mother always said. November’s election will either drag us backward in unimaginative ways or take us to a place where all people are treated with dignity. I pray it is the latter .

Ken, all journalists and MSM are struggling - and failing - as they blink - to define former president Donald John Trump and today’s Republican Party. They are having trouble with vocabulary - with the correct political nomenclature - that pins the tail on this bunch.

It’s simple… Ken. They are fascists… Wikipedia defines Il Duce… and is worth a good read. Il Duce, Italy’s Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, sold Hitler and the Germans of 1930 on fascism and the holocaust followed.

The world is at it again… fascism is spreading. The human race is proving Santayana correct. Those that forget are condemned to repeat.

We are repeating.

America has 70 million that voted Republican for The Donald - but journalists fumble when discussing this huge element of our country… they choke on the term fascist. Prejudice and banality of evil escape journalists. Perhaps Hannah Arendt is no longer taught in journalism classes…

Face it. Call it what it is. It is fascism… and it is spreading - across the planet.

Fascism is seductive. Fascists think they are superior.. it covers for their collective insecurities.

Representative Elise Stefanik, educated at Harvard, is an angry, charmless fascist, hungering for Trump’s approval.

GOP Representative Stefanik returns few calls and lies about her residence.

We in the 21st elect this politician that claimed Willsboro Point as her home. She never lived there. Her daddy had a summer camp on Willsboro Point. He’s in plywood. Good Republican neighbors and good friends of ours dislike her - she will not return their call… but we vote for her. She is unbeatable. Ask Tedra Cobb…

You mention David S. Brooks, a University of Chicago alum - like us - the New York Times OpEd columnist, a prolific author, highly desired speaker and social commentator that discusses his own failings with a modicum of integrity - he has labeled Trump what he is… a fascist. David gets it and says it, most of the time. And he is funny.

Mixed racial journalist, the brilliant beautiful Alexi Jo McCammond, another Chicago graduate, has labeled Republicans fascists… and she calls Trump what he is: a pathological liar. Alexi writes for the Washington Post and appears on MSNBC often…

But the brilliant David and Alexi are alone… and stone cold right. We are dealing with fascism again… along with antisemitism and racial hatred of Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims and more.. all led by former President Donald John Trump, the six time bankrupt convicted rapist and pathological liar, as defined by many… yet he is nominated again by his fellow Republicans, the party of Abraham Lincoln…

Ken, your Substack with Will Doolittle, a great reporter and columnist, would soar in popularity if you could manage to tell it like it is…

Go Tell It on the Mountain, Ken… and I will subscribe…

Simply Put (hiding behind your assumed name), Biden/Harris was trying to combat the spread of misinformation and outright lies. Unless you wish to hide behind those lies and use them to promote your preferred candidate, there is no way this can be construed as "fascist". Please go back to your troll hole.

Well said. It sounds like I have a column assignment. I've often been struck that Republicans demonize Democrats as "liberals" or "socialists" when the actual meanings don't have any negative connotations as all. The average person whould look up their meanings. They might be surprised.

I have been so frustrated by journalists allowing Trump and his handlers to shape the narrative of what they report and also to frame the questions they ask. That’s why I was so proud of Kamala Harris during the CNN interview when Dana Bash asked her what she thought about Trump saying she just decided to turn black. Her answer: Same old tired playbook. Next question please. Bash probed again, is that all? And Harris just said yes. It was a ridiculous thing for Trump to say, it did not deserve to be brought up at all, and it certainly wasn’t something for Harris to waste her time trying to debunk. Shame on Dana Bash for asking that question. Journalists like that have reminded me of playground instigators, spreading gossip and just trying to stir the pot. And when they’re interviewing Trump and he starts spouting his lies, they should interrupt him and say tell the truth, sir. And then move on to the next question.

Dear Ken,

It is interesting to picture the majority of colonists, opting to be neutral or loyalists, while Patrick Henry was delivering his stirring speech ending with the phrase "Give me liberty or give me death." Kind of drives home, if true, that a minority of colonists really were revolutionary patriots and a majority of colonists were preferring to keep the status quo.

ZOOM to today where so many claiming to be "patriots" are vehemently defending their patch of property and profit, their rapid-fire guns, their xenophobia, their isolationist ideals, their misogynist laws and their blind admiration for a professed and unhinged dictator who holds nothing and no one sacred.
