Closed minds cannot appreciate diverse culture.

I almost always agree wholeheartedly with the opinions Mr. Tingley expresses herein, but, today I find myself differing. I L-O-V-E grocery shopping. One of my favorite activities when visiting a foreign country is wandering a grocery store’s aisles and checking out the strange (to me) offerings. For a few years, one of my friends and I would search out weird (to us) varieties of potato chip to bring back for the other’s amusement and delectation. Not sure why I think anyone else needs to know about this, but it’s written now and I am sending it out.

Hey, we all have interesting hobbies. And honestly I don't HATE grocery shopping, but it was refreshing not to have to do it this one time.

I don’t exactly love grocery shopping, but I also don’t think I really trust someone else to pick out my produce. And there is always some stuff that wasn’t on my list that I only remember I need when I see it on the shelf. Guilty as charged on the Amazon thing, though. Although if I can buy it from the locally owned hardware or feed store I will, even if it costs more than at Amazon. Jeff Bezos isn’t coming with the rescue squad anytime soon.

There are questions on the produce, but I was reasonably happy with the choices I got. I think the fish counter always presents some options not expected, so that could be a drawback as well.

Dear gods, if you have a local non-national feed store nearby PLEASE BUY FROM THEM!

Hardware store as well. Losing those small businesses in a town really hurts the viability of a community.

As someone who buys a lot of hardware I will buy small quantities of things like nuts and bolts, spray paint, cleaning products etc from them but I often need fasteners and other materials in quantity, for that kind of stuff I go to McMaster-Carr. Because I have the App I’m having trouble providing a link, but Google them. But they were Amazon before Amazon for industrial supplies, more like Wile E Coyote’s ACME. You would call in an order before 5pm and the stuff would be at your door the next morning. They’ve had an awesome website since before anyone heard of Amazon. Check it out.

My hardware needs are small and simple, and Salem Hardware or A&J Enterprises usually suffice. Country Power in Greenwich and Elsworths down in Easton are my main sources for all things feed and garden related. All locally owned and the money stays right here in our county!

There is a space for comments on selections. You can be specific on size, color, ripeness, etc on produce. You can also disallow substitutions. Hannaford has an excellent app.

Yes, I'm still learning.

There is a rugby/NFL experiment going on right now. Wales international Louis Rees-Zammit has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. He is 20 or 21 years old and extremely talented. Andre Dupont is great, you should watch him play with 15 players on a side. Brilliant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IXg397hkug

Dupont is so fast and so powerful. I'd like to see someone put some pads on him.

The cost of online grocery shopping with home delivery is just not worth it. A $10 surcharge, plus a 20 percent tip, would cost me $40 a week extra, or over $2,000 a year. The pragmatist in me says "no way."

As a family of just two, the tips is not nearly as expensive and oddly enough in retirement I seem to busier than I was when working so grocery shopping can be tough to squeeze in. It's nice to have the option.

Yep. These decisions are always individual, based on personal needs and circumstances.

I love these discussions. Like a friendly chat among friends.

I'm not ready to try on-line grocery shopping. Most grocery items would be okay (like "can goods") but I also buy items with a short expiration date like bread, bagels, or an occasional fresh pie. I check the expiration date and get the freshest one even if it means getting an apple pie instead of a sweet potato or mincemeat pie. I doubt the store's shopper has time to check dates. Produce is another "problem" which was noted and Ken seemed to agree. At 20+ miles from Qby, I doubt I could have cost effective delivery to my home. I could have curb-side delivery, but I'm there anyway and I need the walking, bending and stretching exercise so I'll walk the aisles. Some times I'll see a shopper pick an item off the shelf that looks interesting. If I can tell that shopper is not in a hurry AND looks friendly, I might say "That looks interesting. How do you cook it (if it is meat)" or "What do you use it in".

I did order break, fresh fish and produce. I actually ordered a different kind of break than I usually get but that was my fault. But everything seemed to be fresh as far as my standards, but you may have different standards. I was surprised it all went as well as it did.

I have been using the pickup service for a long time!

Saves me money and time. I don't end up buying things I don't need or get tempted to buy extra treats lol.

I do go inside to buy my meats as I want to see them.

There's a 1.99 service fee attached which I'll gladly pay!

I wonder if the number of impulse buys are reduced, especially at the bakery.

For me that's a definite yes lol

Good for you but I am still able to do it. And besides, I need the exercise.😊😎

Not for me.

And I used to have Amazon Prime and they double and triple billed me and I spent alot of frustrating time trying to straighten it out -- to no avail. Noe I don't have prime, and I avoid buying anything on Amazon at all.

And going to the grocery store is part of my social life!
