Expand full comment

Do you know what happens to someone’s speech pattern when they stutter? What charges do you think Smith is prosecuting? The so called bill “languishing in the senate” is extreme and deeply flawed. What do you have against our Constitutional Republic that you would prefer a dictatorship?

Expand full comment

Allow me to object to your statement that Biden is mentally impaired because he often has a problem stringing a coherent sentence together, Mr. Tucker and provide you with some information . President Biden has dealt with a stuttering disorder since his childhood. To my knowledge he has never received formal speech therapy services to work on this as most schools at that time didn’t have the services of a speech therapist. He overcame his speech problems through learning strategies on his own to deal with his speech issues. Stuttering is a difficult disorder to overcome for many, (even with speech therapy) and in cases that have been successful , there will be moments over their lifetimes when stuttering may crop up. For example, during fatigue, stress, losses ( he lost his young wife and daughter in a horrific car accident, and later, his son, Beau), illnesses, etc. Stutterers will repeat initial sounds, syllables, substitute other words for words they intended to use or avoid words beginning with certain sounds, block on sounds or words, etc. What I find most disturbing is that people have picked up on Trump’s mean belittling of people with disabilities, look at how he mimicked the crippled gestures of a journalist during one of his campaign stops a few years ago, he became angry that a wounded veteran with a severe facial disfigurement was seated near Trump during a veteran celebration and insisted to staff that he didn’t want to be seen with any wounded vets, and how he has mercilessly mentioned Biden’s speech and mimicked him in rallies. Trump has called Biden mentally deficient and discusses how Biden can’t string a coherent sentence together as you have mentioned above. Have you ever listened to Trump speaking at rallies? He is bombastic, brags, loves to name call and shame people, gesticulates wildly with his hands, and when he goes off script or the teleprompter, will form unusual word salads that are nonsensical to the listener as he drones on about magnets and water, windmills and cancer, low pressure shower heads, it’s a veritable free fall association of whatever pops into his mind at that moment. It appears that he is trying to be funny at times, but in reality has lost his train of thought and is running hard trying to catch up with it. Trump’s speech especially when off script, appeals to many of his supporters because he entertains them, expresses his grievances as theirs, he tends to use a lower level of grade school vocabulary ( simple words with plenty of repetition), less complex sentence formation, makes up nonsensical words but afterwards will state he did it on purpose to get the democrats in a tizzy. Regarding Mr. Biden’s expressive speech, his speech pattern is fine. He utilizes a higher level of vocabulary ( reading plenty of books throughout his lifetime undoubtedly helped) , his sentences are grammatically correct, he explains events and actions clearly, he doesn’t engage in juvenile name calling nor a meanness towards others while speaking. Biden demonstrates what a true leader looks and sounds like. I wonder if Trump’s supporters would like to see their children’s teachers talk just like Trump instead of Biden? Most schools have training for teachers and students on how to deal with bullying.

Signing off,

Well Carl, you are certainly entitled to your beliefs, but I prefer to believe my own eyes and ears when it comes to watching Trump walk past his waiting vehicles after deplaning, staring directly at the sun during an eclipse, suggesting injecting bleach into your veins for Covid, using two hands to drink from a glass of water, plagiarizing Hitler, and describing the planes that flew overhead in a battle during the Revolutionary War. I prefer a President who does not belittle wounded vets and prisoners of war nor call deceased soldiers who died in battle, Losers. And as far as using his speech impediment as an excuse, please, take your ear plugs out and listen to your ranting golden idol that people feel is chosen by God to Make America Great Again. Go ahead and support a man who has stated that he wants to get rid of the Constitution while choosing to live flaunting rule of law and degrading the office of President.

actually, yes. he was charged as an insurrectionist in a trial in colorado. he was found guilty. the trial judge, though, said the 14th amendment didn’t apply to him. the colorado supreme court then ruled it did. it appears from yesterday’s oral arguments that the scotus is going to reverse that finding. but he was found by a court of law you be an insurrectionist.

Nobody listens to me, maybe because I’m not a Constitutional lawyer, but still I insist that the Oath of Office required under Article 2 Section 1 prevents Trump from serving as president due to several violations including insurrection, failure to prevent the insurrection, emoluments violations and god knows how many other violations one could cite. It is a self-executing provision and clearly the very least punishment for violation would be to prevent a former president who violated his oath from seeking the office - and of course it is an office or there would not be an oath of office - again. But what do I know, I’ve never gone to law school, I can only read the plain text of the Constitution. It’s really not a technical legal term, but finding Trump eligible for office would be “bullshit,” legally speaking.

Expand full comment

I understand your point about Trump not having been charged and convicted of insurrection. The question I have, though, is what opinion should we hold when we see someone commit a crime with our own eyes?

For example, if we see someone commit a murder, but that person is not charged or convicted, did the murder not happen? Sure, from the perspective of the justice system, it didn’t't happen. But in reality, based on an objective observation and numerous facts, it did happen.

So from my perspective, Trump did, in fact, attempt a coup over a period of months, in different ways, culminating in the attempt on Jan. 6 to stop the certification of a legitimately elected president. And this is the perspective of the majority of Americans.

Look up autocoup. Obviously, it is a coup and you’re the leader and refuse to leave office after being defeated in an election.

And Trump’s guilt or lack of guilt is for a jury to decide. Not for online commenters or public opinion polls.

Have you renounced your name like Ronna did, Dennis?

Here's a just a sample of the basis of my comment -

A PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll, taken in July 2022, found that: "Half of Americans say the events of Jan. 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol amounted to an insurrection and a threat to democracy."

A POLITICO | Morning Consult poll, taken in Sept. 2023, found that "51 percent said the 14th Amendment prohibits Trump from running again because he engaged in insurrection, compared with 34 percent who said the opposite."

Of course, my primary point is there's a difference between what we see with our own eyes and what can be proven in court under our justice system. Most Americans know what they see.

Stefaniks social media yesterday read she will always protect women and girls....it was a message about sports.

Thinly veiled transphobia along with the blatant lie that she cares about women.

She cares so much she supports a madman convicted of sexual assault against women, ya know, those of us she swears to *protect*. I'd prefer to go it alone without her *protection*.

She is anti choice, doesn't believe in Planned Parenthood as a Healthcare facility and consistently upholds antiquated ideas against my rights as a woman.

I call her DC office frequently- I'm most likely on some watch list. I express my concerns in no uncertain terms.....I realize I'm not accomplishing anything but I find I need to be on record - out loud - pushing back.

I've literally asked why she supports violence against women and now I ask why she supports sexual assault against us by supporting someone found GUILTY of sexual assault. I throw it back at them that by sitting in her office they are condoning assault against their sisters, mothers etc.

Sometimes I hope I can reach just one young person. I ask them why they work for a lying insurrectionist.

Of course there's never an answer to that.

So now 68 cult members of the House of Representatives are aiding and abetting an insurrectionist as his trial date nears. I hope it comes up for a vote posthaste.

The years long fraud of "delivering results" continues. Her dependence upon this imaginary accomplishment, as well as other creative deceptions by her PR firm involving Executive Branch agency grants has always been a staple. There isnt a single Congressional member on the NRBC, so she must be chums with NY's federal co-chair. Oh wait, we don't have one. The incident scary and real. I was separated from my immediate family in Easton NY helping to assure the safety and health of medically frail individuals.

Since Elise is making comparisons I was thinking of Adolf Hitlers second in command. Herman Goring a morphine addict. Akin to being numb to the atrocities happening around them. Blind quiet and full of empty ambition.

Yes, he said for one day to drill, drill, drill and build the wall. We’re currently pumping more oil than any country ever has. He used to influence to get congressional Republicans to stop a bipartisan immigration bill that was backed by the Chamber of Commerce, WSJ and the union for border patrol agents.

That’s because he wants the chaos to continue until he’s in office. He couldn’t pass infrastructure when he was president. It’s ludicrous to think he’d get an immigration bill done. The only thing that passed when he was president was the tax cuts because he didn’t get involved and let Ryan and McConnell do it.

The GF National sign is too bright. I understand the Civic Center having bold graphics intended to create excitement for events. The bank sign is boring, and it should be boring. It’s a bank. People do not want exciting banks. Exciting banks are bad. But the sign doesn’t attempt to be exciting it just give time and temperature, and that information can be conveyed with lighted lettering on a dark background at a small fraction of the lumens. Sitting at the traffic light I felt like I was being visually coal-rolled by the sign.

Dark skies are an asset to our region. Not so much in GF as a bit further north and west. But GF contributes to sky glow miles away. Sky glow is in effect a theft of our heritage - dark skies that allow us an exceptional view of the universe. The majority of people in this country cannot see the Milky Way when they step into their backyard at night. Those dark skies create value and let’s face it everything comes down to money. We should all be more conscious of excessive light spilling off of our properties. Maybe we don’t care that the excess light harms wildlife but many tourists enjoy seeing the stars that they don’t get to see at home. It’s a light show we provide for free, not $30/person, no bet tax money involved, but it is a part of the value for people who vacation here. Maybe we should use some bed tax money to pay individuals and businesses to shield their nighttime lighting.

Anyway, if someone from the bank is reading this, please turn down the lights.
