It was definitely a surprise, but he made the right decision. From what John Dickerson said on CBS, he had flown to two other countries, had his son, Hunter, on his mind, juggling NATO, domestic affairs, and personal issues. That's a LOT for anyone to deal with! I've always said, Biden is running a COUNTRY, not a household! Credit should be given to him for that.

Pretty sure every president leaving office has at least in part heaved a huge sigh of relief.

My admiration for Joe has grown. Because of his courage, the narrative has now changed…and we have a better chance of making, and changing, history. Buckle up. Let’s save Democracy.

I was saddened to hear that President Biden was withdrawing from the race. Mr. Biden has shown extreme leadership by putting the good of our country over his political party and his own ambition.

He will be remembered as one of the greatest Presidents in American history for this selfless act and for his service to America over the years.

the hate has been amped up

Once Kamala Harris was endorsed by Joe Biden, on the internet (twitter) there was birtherism trending... Suggesting of all things -- that Ms. Harris wasn't an America

pos_tfnKKK has started her dog whistles.

A good reminder of what gQpedos are doing, they are not questioning the qualifications of Ms. Harris, no more than they were of Barack Obama

NO. What pos_tfnKKK and the gQpeds are doing, is reminding republicans that they are still racist

Americans will determine whether Kamala Harris or old, confused Donald Hannibal Lecter Trump should be president. Anonymous internet commenters don’t decide our leaders.

If you didn't know that pos_tfnKKK identified as a woman... you would think she was a republican man, taking away all rights of a woman... because that is that she has done for the past 10 years that we have seen -- when she carpetbagged her way into ny21!

If you didn't know pos_tfnKKK identified as a catholic you would think she think she would be aware of the pedophile scandals.. and as a mother be concern with the safety of children.. she is now and openly supports an alleged pedophile (and convicted rapist.. and yes she is still identifies as a woman on that one too) for president and other political offices.

One only needs to scroll the facebook page of Joel Lapierre and you see some typical republican racism.. he was also censured similar posts. But he is a republican. He and his family has donated to the pos_tfnKKK campaign, so he is endorsed by pos_tfnKKK

It is fairly obvious that republicans are now gQp-woke, they believe in pedophiles, racism and misogyny.. if they did not, would they keep voting for people like pos_tfnKKK and hmpy trmPEDOphile

It's worse than no mention, this from the news wire "William Perry Pendley, a top environmental official in Donald Trump’s administration, told The Washington Post this week that climate change is “a problem that doesn’t exist” and that a second Trump term wouldn’t engage in “turning over your lifestyles” to fight it, since that would be “absolutely insane.” Underscoring that point of view, the Republican National Convention this week adopted a platform that makes no mention of climate change." They continue to defy my ability to see this movement as anything other than mass delusion on a deadly scale. The only motivating factor I can sense is anger at anyone but themselves, under educated white folks whipped into a froth by the right wing talk and a sense of having lost something, which they have not. We need to win this election, across the board.

If democracy were to survive another Trump presidency, unfortunately, climate change would get us. It might get us anyway.

Regarding the climate, we may have lost the battle where our grandchildren may have to suffer the outcomes of this neglect.

It is in the plans. I started reading some of it - it's 900 pages long and a bit of a slog - but it is important to understand it. I read the chaper on media and their plans to eliminate funding for NPR and PBS Newshour because they are partisan. I watch PBS Newshour every night and it is NOT partisan. It may be the best hour of news on television.

God bless you if you can make it through that. Let’s hope we can all make it a moot point and keep Republicans out of power until they kind of come around to democracy again.

President Biden earned the love of every person in this country who supports our republic yesterday with his selfless decision to leave the ticket. What strikes me now is that it seems like the same Republicans who were calling him unfit are upset that he’s no longer on the ticket. Real patriots. 🙄

If I thought Dems were that clever I’d say they purposely waited until after the Republican convention when Donald Hannibal Lecter Trump would officially be the standard bearer.

What’s funny is that there seems to be a problem turning the attacks from Biden to VP Harris. I’ve Chip Roy and others calling her a DEI hire and crap like that. So, I’m sure the only problem they have will be deciding between racism and misogyny.

This ad started going viral yesterday which is some nice free advertising. Whoever made it was prescient because not a thing needs changing.

Nine days ago, someone tried to assassinate Donald Trump. For a day or two, everyone said we needed to tone down the rhetoric, unless we incite another assassination attempt. One week later, we are back to calling Trump an existential threat to democracy and a threat to our country that must be stopped at any cost. I suspect the assassination attempts will continue until one is successful.

Trump is an existential threat to democracy and to our country, so anyone saying that is simply stating an observation, something we see with our own eyes.

But to state "must be stopped at any cost" would be over the top and would need to be toned down. Can you provide some examples of Democratic Party officials and elected Democrats calling Trump a "threat to our country that must be stopped at any cost"?

(As an aside, I guess if Trump supporters believe that Democratic "rhetoric" incited the attempt on Trump’s life, then they would reasonably have to agree that Trump"s rhetoric, as well as his supporters’, incited the violent storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6.)

The plan is to fight when he doesn't win. I hope the government is working on a plan of action now because it will happen.

The assassination attempt did not change the threat. I think there is a difference between aggressive rhetoric and plainly stating the facts.

The assassination attempt was by a disturbed 20 year old who should not have had access to a gun. It had nothing to do with anyone’s rhetoric. The gunman searched for information on President Biden, Chris Wray and Merrick Garland as well as England’s royal family.

If you look through the history of this country you’ll see how tame the rhetoric today actually is.

Also, you wouldn’t describe a guy who’s expressed a desire to be a dictator and rip up the Constitution as a threat to democracy. I’m not even going to bother getting into the rhetoric of the guy who summoned a murderous mob to the Capitol.

The Republicans chose a candidate who can be objectively and credibly described as criminal, authoritarian, and sexually abusive, all based on his public statements and actions. Republicans had other options, but they chose Trump. Now they're stuck with Democrats calling out Trump for the corrupt behavior he exhibits.

That's life in politics. Next time, Republicans, choose a better candidate.

Before you cry foul, just remember that basically every time Trump opens his mouth he is calling all Democrats fanatic, radical, leftists whose agenda is nothing less than the destruction of America. Anyone who is not totally in his thrall has been called vermin, or evil, and he has repeatedly threatened to root them out. His nastiness is echoed by all his sycophants, my own congressional representative included. His supporters fly flags, wear hats and t-shirts and put up signs that say Take America Back. I ask, from whom? Their fellow Americans, that’s who. And they’ve already shown they’re willing to cause violence to get their way. So cry me a river.

Truly pray Trump is defeated.

What happened to Former Prseident Trump is scary.

I've listened to his mouth Trump, spewing hate and such 2015 n on. It came to his rally it almost killed him. You don't run your yap and think all is well. It bites back.

I'm happy Trump was not killed or wounded any worse than he was. My best to former Predisdent Trump as well.

Noe I pray we move on from this dark marred period. Heal and reunite. Were far from done. May civility rule.

"This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but of ensuring that no one believes anything anymore." A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong. And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge, is without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want." ...Hannah Arendt, German historian and philosopher speaking to her analysis of what happened during the Third Reich.

Would never have believed it could happen here but alas the social media, mass media, conspiracy theories and candidate rhetoric would seem to suggest many have lost the power to think (critically) and judge accordingly!

The Democrats have a good opportunity now to unite behind Ms. Harris and promote the policies President Biden illustrated and employed in his administration. Age issue is now gone from the election and Democrats can focus on the Republican candidate's lack of morality and patriotism.
