Thanks Ken for this little gem. Sets a nice tone for the day. The Canton Democratic Committee will host its third rally this afternoon at 4 at the water fountain across from the post office on Main Street. We plan on doing this every Wednesday into the near future.
It was good. Since I had also seen the movie, Murrow's words were familiar, although they resonated more today than I thought they would. During Clooney's final monologue center stage, Murrow asks the question of what to do now, and someone screamed from the crowd, "Resist!" It seemed to throw Clooney as he paused. I sensed he wanted to answer, but returned to the script.
...congratulations on getting your book into George's hands; he has always struck me as "down-to-earth," and as a person of integrity / Your wife's "mischievous" comments about housing, etc., the actor at your home: hilarious...
My high school friends are meeting in Delaware in May. One really wants to see this play. Thanks for this wonderful post. Now I do also. Yes, I believe those who go before us still make things happen for us. Beautiful
I thought about it, but it seemed ridiculously presumptive. Instead, I printed out a copy of the Adirondack Theater Festival schedule announcing the readings of The Last American Newspaper this summer. I told Miriam to expect a call.
The blend of boyish excitement in seeing a celebrity like Clooney, coupled with your adult-aged deep respect for his personal and family history of fighting for the First Amendment, is a great story in itself!
And the short stories embodied within each of your books are easily read…in chauffeured vehicles…or hotel rooms…or airplanes. So George may catch more than a glimpse of your book.
I keep a copy of your third book in my car to read in waiting rooms at various appointments…or park-and-read visits to Crandall Pond or Lake George.
Susan, thank you so much. What a wonderful compliment. When people tell me they haven't had time to read the collections of columns, I tell them to read one at a time (less than 5 minutes) each day. That's the way they were written.
Another compelling edition, Ken! Wow, the emotional pivots of the front page today. Thanks for the coverage. Love the pic of the new farmer's market building in Glens Falls. A reason to move back.
Ken, Thanks for giving the Sackets 1000 a shout out, as did Rachel & your fellow Substacker, Bob Hubble. As one of the 1000, today I hope to hit the Medicaid & Social Security offices, standing with signs saying "Save...(whichever offices)" on the way back from a doctor's office. Next time in town for another MD visit, the VA & Post Office get a visit. Vital we don't take our foot off the gas now.
Great activism, Roland! Both for your town and communities all across our country to emulate. Rachel’s show Monday pm, dedicated to videos of your rally, and those all across the country, is a recording I’m keeping for replay if/when I start to forget the individual and collective power we all have to resist tyranny!
A wonderful story! Remember how all of America trusted Edward R. Murrow (and much of us watched the show every night?) We all accepted the same truths, even if not necessarily the same way to adapt to them. No alternative facts.

I support your efforts at free speech. One day, one time will not do it. It has to be relentless to get the message heard.
Relentless is a good way to put it. The Blake Gendebien campaign is a good place to put energy into.
How was the play, (Mrs Lincoln?) 👀

Great story. Maybe he'll read it.
It would be a great story some day if he did.
George Clooney always seemed like a decent man. Can't say I disagree with Gillian. The good looks are just the icing on the cake.

I’m curious. Did you write a message to Clooney in your book and autograph it?
I thought about it, but it seemed ridiculously presumptive. Instead, I printed out a copy of the Adirondack Theater Festival schedule announcing the readings of The Last American Newspaper this summer. I told Miriam to expect a call.
Good approach and best of luck in receiving that call.

Of course it was 34 degrees and snowing on Tuesday.
It was 20° in MI :-)
Well, there you go. Come back to GF.
We’ll make a “Welcome Back, Julie!” Poster if you decide to move back here! 🤗
The metaphysical thread from Gillian to you is vibrating with love and it's so good you listened. What an incredible gift she gave you.
Ken, I’m feeling like movie rights are in your future! Great story!
My goal is getting a full production to the Wood Theater stage for ATF. That's a dream come true. Anything after that is icing on the cake.

Let me know what you see at the Social Security office.
Great Clooney story! Fantastic pic! Thanks for sharing! I have a feeling he’s going to read the book.
I'm sure Gillian is whispering in his ear.
Your George Clooney story was priceless....it could be a addendum in the reprint!
Or Volume 3.
I’m happy to hear about your experience at the theater. Mike and I are going to the last performance at a Sunday matinee in June.
To say the least, I am very excited.
Hang out at the stage door on Broadway afterwards. It's kind of fun just to see a big name star like that.

And Walter Cronkite after that.
Clearly you are younger than I !
Yes, I do not remember Murrow. And it is refreshing to be calle a "younger" man.
