In one sense I see E lies as a willing victim. Trump is one of many men who groom their victims so they have control of them. She is being controlled by an expert who has been doing this for many, many years and it works for HIM. He lets her THINK that it's working for her. People with a whole lot more common sense than she has, are really starting to see him for what he is. I think she is a lot like trump himself, wanting to get to the top no matter who you have to use and abuse. I don't know if she's trying to convince herself or others that he is the best. When he falls, and I really think he will, he will kick her to the curb so fast she won't know what hit her. Maybe then she will finally get it. Trump is a cancer, and he will destroy her in the end.

The bigger question is will voters and citizens of this district still support her?

Shortly before Stefanik endorsed Trump he criticized and insulted her. Her response was to praise him. That is how MAGA works. It's all peachy while Trump is on top. Once people recognize these folks for what they are, it isn't pretty. A soul isn't sold to a pawn shop. It is sold to the devil.

I agree, she has definitely painted herself in to a corner. And those who have endorsed her and voted for her have shown the same MAGA madness (even though some try to claim they aren't really supporting Trump). I spent my entire career in the advertising and communications industries and you can create clever, often misleading messages and spread them through all kinds of media now, but actions speak louder than words--so I just watch the actions. When they contradict their words, best to steer clear of those kinds of people. Flip floppers, gaslighters, call it what you like. She bought in to the BIG LIE. This article rightly points out she's basically a morally and ethically bankrupt person who just goes whichever way the winds blows. I think Trump's popularity is permanently on the decline now after the midterm election losses, that said, Trumpism will be around for some years but REP party will go in to meltdown in the next election cycle because it's clear the voters proved that there was no RED wave and the Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger faction of conservative truth tellers will get larger by the time of next elections. The House still hasn't been called for REPs but likely will have a very tiny majority if they win. Let's see how McCarthy fares with the extreme members of his caucus (and that's if he even wins Majority Leader). The good news is the economy is still humming along, inflation is starting to turn, gas prices are coming down and by the 2024 election we might see DEMs claiming "its the economy, stupid!" with things going well. I think the tide has turned and the American voters decided on Democracy for the future and that there is no place for authoritarian behavior in our future.

The Trump faction will remain for some time, but it does appear that we may see a split in the Republican Party that could cost them in the future. That not be the best thing. I’ve always believed that one-party rule is a bad thing, but if neither side wants to compromise then it’s not a good thing either.

You have to admit stiffy is a shrewd witch.

She knows the numbers.. she has a certain percentage who will pinch their nose and vote for her no matter what -- the ray 'the coward' scollin.

They will look the other way when she dog whistles the domestic terrorists and racist. Most with some sense of morals would realize promotion of' replacement' lies.. or continued attacks on your opponents will lead to violence. Not stiffy.

Note people like 'the coward' did not call out the most egregious actions of stefanik, he said she should not support trumpty dumpty after fox told him to take that tag line.

He did not say, her support of Jan 6, 2021 was wrong. Her replacement theory was wrong, stiffy’s and gop lies about elections were wrong. No, he gave tacit endorsement to that.

The next election for stiffy, ‘the coward’ will endorse her. In 2024, when the choice is AOC or don the con, ‘the coward’ will endorse violence over a better America.. Because he and the gop are not a party of ideas, but a party of fear mongers and wealth.

Yup, the coward knows where the money is coming from and it's really all about the money. I think she will either be VP for Trump losing ticket for 2024, or move on to bigger and better jobs like a pundit on FOX News or some right wing think tank. The results of the mid term elections sent a clear message to REP party, clean up the act or implode. Almost every Trump backed candidate at high levels lost. As McConnell stated, "candidate quality matters" and they had losers backing the BIG LIE.

When she was first elected, she did promise she would only stay for five terms. This is her fifth term.

Expand full comment

And when asked this election cycle she changed the subject

For good reason, what else can she do? stiffy is not an effective congresswoman for #ny21 (her voting record proves that.. but what she brags about (bills she voted against) shows her worthlessness...

If she ran for Senate or Governor that would come out .. sure she would still get the ignorant vote... like zeldin did

And we shall see, right?

But we know...

• What is the most evil

• What serves stiffy the most

• Her word means nothing

is what we will get from eLIEs

I can't stand her, or anyone who supports her, including the local "mini me, media nobody" who thinks she's wonderful. But then that's a loser betting on a loser who thinks two negatives get to a win!

Expand full comment

And ray 'the coward' scollin is the one that lies in the face of #ny21

You know stiffy doesn't shop in her district.. she buys ice cream and that is it.. if she went back to releasing her taxes again, you would see she doesn't donate to the Volunteer Fire Department

But 'the coward' scollin, you know he voted straight republican line. He voted for the woman who tried to overthrow the 2020 election.. and coward scollin knows that. He also knows if stiffy needs to do this again in 2024, she will... the coward scollin in essence voted to destroy democracy

And yet when he goes to the post office or the grand union... there he is smiling at the peasants that stiffy votes again.. He knows what kind of evil she is.

But he also knows when his son wanted to work for stiffy... the coward scollin groveled on his knees.

====

ray 'the coward' blocked me on twitter... not because of issues.. he ignored those. No when I pointed out his polices were lies... he blocked me and said I was a fake profile.

Translated that mean he didn't have facts to refute what I had written, and was mad that he couldn't attack my character.

When I cite the NY Times or fox news, it doesn't make those articles any more factual if he knows who I am. Just as when I point out his straw man arguments were based on an opinion piece... who I am does not matter when it comes to him being wrong.

The trifecta of twitter tweeters (psst alliteration) !

ray ‘the coward’ scollin, brian mann and stefanik

° Best of all is how ‘the coward’ after stiffy wins changed his toots. Weeks after of supporting the maga terrorist supporter, he steps away from her. Remember the same time he WAS supporting stiffy, he was also supporting kari lake conspiracies

Supporting kari lake (https://twitter.com/KariLake/status/1585771130597429248)

° Then you have brian mann ‘political expert’. The guy has written a book on politics... one in which he demonstrated he couldn’t even understand how his brother voted. Yes I read that book.

And now, years after he left ncpr is finally acknowledging the evil of stiffy... but when he cover her; when it was his JOB to write about her, the political expert wrote more stories about micro spikes than her dishonesty and evil (anyone who has come around to saying eLIEs is evil in 2022 ---- like it is a new thing ---- has not been paying attention).

° And stiffy’s tweet.. she missed the rupert murdoch memo telling everyone to run from trumpty dumpty.

======

Unfortunately, the election story isn’t that the maga terrorists lost, or even that the maga media is turning on don the con. Like many in the media are trying to portray it.

The story should be -- the gop has no policy. Like in 2020, instead of starting to have policy that people could understand after a big loss, the stefaniks’ “maga wing” just started suppressing the vote. In 2022, they double down and floated the idea of not letting anyone under the age of 21 to vote.

stiffy ran on no policies. She ran on lies and accusations. Blaming everything from world inflation to her weight gain on Joe Biden... Problem is, no one is understanding that moderate Joe Biden is ironically proving that what Americans want is progressive policies. stiffy won in a redneck, borderline-racist district and somehow thinks that is what America is or wants.

She still has no policy, yet you can see what she is against (spoiler, it is her district) if you look at her voting record: http://politicsthatwork.com/voting-record/Elise-Stefanik-412648

======

Under Joe Biden (and unfortunately only in the last few months)

We learned that Americans want:

• health care

• college loan buyouts (not free stuff, but the understanding that college is too expensive!)

• letting go of antiquated marijuana laws (AND arrests)

• safe roads

• livable wages

• stay out of women’s sex lives (doing away with safe abortions and contraceptives is just how the gop suppresses women)

• gender freedom

• ....and -- in general -- human rights.

(These are progressive ideas (thank you FDR) that even many republicans support. Ideas that the moderate democrats ignore, but luckily get elected because we know what would happen in republicans gain control.)

==========

Now and forever, what we have to remember: maga doesn’t have a majority... but they never did. They have value, in the same way a swing state continues to vote against their best interests does. No republican is going to call that out.

And remember, majority or not, on January 6, 2021, a maga crowed tried to kill a sitting vice president because the president told them to. Those domestic terrorists (and sympathizers like stefanik) did not go away. They are still clutching their guns, zip ties and nooses.

------

And in the end stefanik is holding on to that evil.

If you look at their proposed budget, it is pretty much the same old policies that have been proposed in the past and not worked.

As Elise Stefanik is intelligent and politically calculating, I would think she had a few alternative plans in the event her much promoted "Red Wave" fizzled - no matter how high her hopes & expectations for it.

When Zeldin failed to capture the helm of NYS, and barring any implosion by Gov. Hochul (granted, considering the history of the NYS Democratic Party, that's never a sure thing) Stefanik has to know she won't get appointed to any GOP administration post (even less likely if the 2024 Candidate isn't her beloved Trump). A vacancy in NY-21 being filled by a Democratic Governor is not something the national GOP would be eager to see.

If anything, given her carping about the governance of NYS - at times she seems to whine more about State issues than about Congress-level topics - I wonder if she's got her eyes on a Governorship.

Expand full comment

She wouldn’t do any better than Zeldin in running for governor. Massachusetts and Maryland now have Democratic governors replacing Republicans. Vermont has a Republican who’s decidedly unMAGA. Maybe she could run for governor of Florida though if Desanctimonious runs for prez.

As far as Stefanik’s skill at reading tea leaves goes lots of people are seen as geniuses until they’re not anymore. Elon Musk and Sam Bankman-Fried were hailed as such a week or two ago. I believe ES gets too much credit for being able to win by wide margins in upstate NY.

I’m with the Lincoln Project in believing she’ll put the knife to McCarthy and become Speaker. Maybe that’s what the Trump endorsement is about. I still believe in karma, Nemesis and ETTD so hope springs eternal she’ll reap what she has sowed.

I’d be more impressed with Ray Scollin if he’d said whatever before the election. And “he doesn’t like Trump, but he still love, love, loves Elise?” So what?

Nice point by Brian Mann about Cheney.

And thanks for the Edward Prescott obituary. Impressive!

I also think you could see Stefanik as a compromise candidate for Speaker. Also a good point about her margin of victory. The new district boundaries made it more Republican.

I keep seeing gossip about her being a backstabber (not a surprise)

I don't think she has the ability to control the current congress.. she would be a bigger failure as speaker than she has been at a representative
