The GOBN has been imbedded in QBY/Warren County forever. It’s mostly a Republican only play. Too the public, it’s very subtle but involves both the elected officials and most of the prominent businessmen and community leaders. On the positive side, it has helped GF and surrounds grow and proper over the past 40 years when compared to other smaller upstate areas. Downsides would be the narrow thinking, favoritism and exclusiveness. John Strough broke the door down but they are coming after him again. Hopefully John remains strong enough to deflect the challenge.

Always mystifying why the need to attack a good public servant. In my view Queensbury is one of the better run towns and Strough has years of experience which makes all the difference in the world.

...a police presence (should they have to be called?) at all public protests, especially in these charged political times, would be prudent: would it not?...

Police presence would be alarming and apt to escalate minor occurrences, in my opinion. These gatherings are peaceful and meant to be so and have been so except for the chainsaw clown who was easily contained when law enforcement was needed.

Not the first incident from trump supporters at rallies. If you don't agree with them, they like to threaten people who think different than they do. You don't have the right to have your own opinion in their minds. Pathetic!

Some gatherings may not want police presence for their own reasons. Besides, city park is literally steps from the police department.

The police were notified ahead of the event. In Glens Falls, if you are holding a protest, you must notify the police so they are aware.

Post Star front page on Monday (digital only) was not surprising since they appear to put the paper to bed around noon the previous day. You’d think changing digital on the fly would be possible.

That is a not insignificant point. Things that happen on Friday don't appear in the e- and print editions until Tuesday. I'm not even sure how useful obits are anymore, with their notice of date/time of services.

Oh the irony! I watched the Queensbury Board Meeting and my impression was that Mr. Dixon, Mr. McNulty and the Town Board were looking to hire the best candidate. It appeared that they were not aware that the Cemetery Commission was not involved in the hiring reccomendation and, like myself, wondered, who took the Commission out of the process. One thing you'll always find about "hired consultants" is that they serve as a buffer for those who are afraid to publicly take a stand but usually accomodating to the people who pay their bill. 5 candidates exceeded the criteria but only three "male" candidates were selected for final interview by the "hired consultant". Who decided to keep the Cemetery Commission out of the selection process? The woman from Glen Lake who spoke at the end of the meeting was spot on in describing the importance of the political system in the appointment process. For a better appreciation of the situation, watch the meeting on Zoom and draw your own conclusion

As I stated the cemetery superintendent should not have been within a mile of the hiring process because of her political leadership position. By its own bylaws, the cemetery commission was not authorized to be part of hiring process, as I understand it. I'm still not even sure what a cemetery commissioner does? Is there a DPW commission? Board of election commission? Just wondering.

"not even sure what a cemetery commissioner does" says a lot. Unpaid volunteers like school board members, Recreation Commissioners, City Tree Commissioners etc. are individuals serving for free for the betterment of our communities and their voice is important. They took the time to be committed, volunteer and offer suggestions for improving services. Why volunteer if your voice is worthless?

Wow. How did the Post Star have a photo of an event that hadn't taken place? Scary. It's one thing to get a flawed election result (still concerned NBC called FL for Al Gore first) but the Easter thing is concerning.

I was glad to see that the Glen Falls Police Department did its job. During past demonstrations that was not the case. During the tenure of the previous police chief, nothing was done when menacing occurred . The pro Trump demonstrators used bullhorns to drown out our voices, used flag poles as spears and invaded our personal space all in attempts to intimidate us. After our first encounter with menacing behavior , several of us met with the mayor and the former police chief. During that meeting, we were told by the police chief that he refused to give the green light to his officers to even write summonses. The rationale stemmed from his belief that the DA would not prosecute and therefore he wasn’t going to bother. I told him what the DA chooses to do is out of his jurisdiction and that he should do his job. As a result of the inaction, the counter protestors were emboldened; their behavior was more abhorrent with each subsequent demonstration. I am very glad that this is no longer the case.
