I made the decision several years ago to register without party affiliation and do not regret my decision. I, too, vote for the candidate, not the party. Many people begged Dave Strainer to run for the at Large seat. Dave had a command of County issues, but with a "D" behind your name, it's challenging. Are we sincere in our public proclamations of prayers and hope for addicts, only to find out that we put our collective boot on their foreheads as we push them back under should they attempt to rejoin society. As a society do we give second chances or do we banish them forever. I think we had our answer last night.
Travis Whitehead is an up-front, honest guy who makes fact-based decisions. The missing background of someone running for office bothered me as much as it did him. Trent has a background that could have worked for him. Had he been upfront with it, he might have a true story of how it turned him around, gave him perspective, changed his life for the better. . . on and on about what he has learned the hard way will help him help our community. But his background seemed like something he didn't want well known. Why?
After hearing about his dad's reaction, I'm wondering if the decision making of Trent is still misguided like his dad's behavior and whatever bad decisions caused Trent to have a time-out in jail are still part of his tool kit. No way I will ever vote for him unless I hear the full story and how Trent's history has been turned into wisdom that will help our community.
Ken, the only problem with registering as an Independent is that you have no voice in a primary. I wish that rule would change.
Yes, that is absolutely true. At one time, the primary WAS the election.
It’s really terrible that Stefanik refuses to validate the last election. And yes, being unable to vote in the primary is an unforeseen thing.
Meant to say an unfortunate thing.
I think, I am going to change my party affiliation to Independent.

Well said Chris.
