Sinclair is in many ways more dangerous than Fox. Another example of how loosening or eradicating many of the foundational media rules and regulations have served to undermine democracy.
Maybe it’s a result of not watching TV, but the only thing I could vaguely come up with as a “fear” is Trump regaining the WH. And I think the likelihood of that is somewhat low although I do maintain it as a possibility just to be mentally prepared.
In any case, that’s probably not an answer the folks at Sinclair are looking for.
"The federal agency that regulates the U.S. television industry slapped the largest civil fine in its history on Sinclair Broadcast Group — a company with links to the Trump administration — as punishment for deceiving the government.
"Sinclair agreed to the $48 million fine and entered into a consent decree to close three separate ongoing investigations by the Federal Communications Commission."
"Sinclair, based in suburban Baltimore, owns and controls more than 190 stations across the country. That makes it one of the nation's largest players in local TV"
Sinclair owns and controls local news channel 6. We don't watch channel 6.
My sister lives in the Hilltowns near Albany. She is constantly berating the leadership there and is fearful of the spread of crime, violence, etc. coming up the hill. She and others were aghast that anyone would vacation in Mexico, and that they better be careful. Yes, they get local news from WRGB.
We were planning a trip to NYC and my brother said the same thing after seeing those immigrant assault videos played up. My guess is that NYC is still much safer than when we visited in the 1970s.
I've been aware of sinclair broadcasting and their political views for years, and they are the bane of the broadcast industry. I'm with you, I refuse to watch their news...it's a joke, however, the other affiliates, ABC and NBC aren't much better. It's no wonder public opinion is so negative. Thanks for pointing out Sinclair's right wing indoctrination...
I am in a time warp because I left a post college news stint at the Albany Times Union about 50 years ago and only have returned to the North Country on vacations since then. My memories of WRGB
Are of a powerful station with great reporters-anchors like Tony Guida (later big with NBC and CBS in NY) and, later, Ed Dague. So I was sorry to read about the downward spiral withSinclair and the emphasis on crime-sensationalism. It just so happens that, in my now home area in Maryland, David Smith, the Sinclair leader, has this year created another firestorm with his purchase of the venerable Baltimore Sun and a step-up in crime reporting.
Growing up in Niskayuna, WRGB was within walking distance (Freddie Freihofer, Glendora--yup, been there, done that, LOL!!)--- Ernie Tetrault was friends with my parents. Hard to believe Liz Bishop is still there---has her thinking changed so that Sinclair is acceptable or is it just a job? Remember when Chris Jansing (Kapostasy) was pulled up to MSNBC from WRGB? How and why things change is not easily understood when you're just living in it.
Ooops....I just looked and found that she was at Channel 13 , with Ed Dague as her co-anchor----WNYT. I guess we turned to Channel 13, not Channel 6, when my husband and I moved back to this area many years later.
Holy Cow! So much news to absorb! Wonderful info regarding Oscar nominated movies, thank you. I hope the investigation into sexual abuse and discrimination is a real one, and not a whitewash. Our school systems are run just like the much of news industry, based on income. Sinclair adds to that its political affiliation, and one that is biased in favor of the rich get richer ideology. You are right, choose our news sources (and our everything), intelligently.
I’ll never forget the statement that Sinclair forced all of its local stations to read “warning” about so -called fake news at the other stations. The irony.
In 2018, Sinclair forced all its stations to read the exact same script that warned its audience about the other stations promoting “fake news”. I stopped watching Channel 6 right then. Their news coverage became more like Fox.
I am an active member of Rensselaer County Women for Change, a grassroots organization determined to see an end to the corruption in our own political backyard. Recently, Cindy Doran, a county legislator, a liberal Democrat, resigned so she could move north to be closer to her children and grandchildren. County executive Steve McLoughlin, a trumpier than trump Republican, greeted her resignation on his X account by calling her a "classless hag," "bad trash," "scumbag," and "dirtbag." He used epithets such as "Chardonnay Cindy" and insinuated that she had a drinking problem. He lit her desk identifier with her name on it on fire and posted a picture of it burning over a toilet. Outraged, RCW4C issued a press release demanding an apology. CBS6 responded and have been putting together a story. It was supposed to air Monday, 2/26 but got postponed. Word is it will air Thursday, 2/29. I will be interested in seeing how this latest misogynist event is presented.
March Madness - love it! I watch it from beginning to end.
I did not see Killers of a Flower Moon or Oppenheimer (I prefer to watch at home where I can pause the movie if I need/want to); waiting to see them on Netflix. Did see Maestro on Netflix and I agree; although I enjoyed it I do not feel it is Oscar worthy. My daughter-in-law and granddaughters couldn't wait to see Barbie - I passed on it. Now seeing your review, I may have made a mistake.
The Supreme Court has decided to hear Trump’s Immunity case…further delaying other trials on indictments against him…it’s on all channels so sadly it’s not fake news.

That's why they are stoking false fear....

We do not either. Before Sinclair it was the first we chose. The slant to their “news” was almost immediately obvious.

It is Ken.
And that is so restricting to their personal lives. 😢

I think Jansing worked at Ch. 13 - WPTZ.

The Sinclair organization just purchased the Baltimore Sun, much to the dismay of the newspaper’s personnel.

See Barbie, you won’t regret it!
I have stopped watching TV news. I disconnected from social media. The internet is my only source.
I'm tired of opinions. I want news stories facts and truths.
Well, except for what you read on The Front Page.
