I’d be more than happy if Trump spent 100 percent of his time golfing.

Tanya Goldstein's avatar

No, as much as it pains me to say it, we want Trump paying attention. As evidenced by the restoration of funding for the 9/11 first responders, if he feels like he made a move that would also be unpopular with his base, he will reverse course rather than risk losing their adulation. If Trump stops caring about that, Musk will really be in total control, and he doesn’t give a hoot about being popular with them.

fThe thing I think of when it comes to him going 'home' is the cost to us (secret service have to pay (top rate) to stay at mar a lardo). I read something just his golfing has cost tax payers $10 million.

Now add to this he has stripped the security from a lot of people he didn't like... and made that public, so his treason criminal releasees can not attack those people unfettered.

The "Where's Elise?" rally yesterday was a small group of approximately 50 or so people. Pertinent questions where asked through the bull horn and the lively crowd would respond, "Where's Elise?" It really is a shame that Elise abandoned her District and used it as a stepping stone. Actually, it's more like she used us, stepped all over us and never delivered any benefits.

Great job in filing the ethics complaint!

When the town board voted to replace Rachel Seeber at the Board of Supervisors both the chair and immediate past chair of the county GOP voted for Hilary Stec, Dan Stec’s former wife and a member of the GOP committee who addressed her letter of interest in the position to the Republican committee, not the town board. After a set of what were clearly mock interviews, they voted for her, I should add.

If Stefanik is working at the UN while serving as an elected Representative I think it would be a violation of the Hatch Act.

The Tupper Lake ICE raid should put business owners on notice that ICE could show up at their door and effectively shut them down. They need to know their rights. They should never allow ICE to enter any non-public area of their property without a signed and legitimate judicial order.

Check the order to be certain it is signed by a judge and that everything on the order is correct, including address and date.

Anyone employing immigrants might consider supplying "red cards" to their employees.

Available from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center at

Also, we need specific information about identifying judicial warrants (signed by a judge) vs. administrative warrants). Not only sample forms, but the names of judges who have authority to sign them *in the areas where we live, work, shop, go to school, and worship.*

Don't trust them. Verify!

I've asked organizations about this... as in.. what will it serve.. Like if you don't talk to ICE, will they not arrest you..

As it is, it appears even if you have paperwork to work legally in the US, you still can be 'detained'.

And really what is paperwork, when the current treason crooks dont even want to recognize 'Birth Right Citizenship'

I agree. Which is why this advice is really only the first step.

Non-white people need to be aware, alert, and prepared to deal with these serious issues.

Immigrants should, IMHO, find or form strong support groups backed by legal expertise.

Maybe even write contact phone numbers on their arms so they can use "that one phone call" to best effect. Experience matters!

How sad is it you have to say: 'non-white people' because that is what it is about.. in my area there are many people from Ukraine, the Czech Republican and Albania.. but while they are just as likely to be legal or illegal immigrants they are not brown or black

which is to say the obvious.. this gQped policy is purely racist

A huge thank you, Ken, for filing that conflict of interest complaint. The silence of the board when you spoke to them directly was deafening. Depending on our added participation, this should, at the very least, put the board on notice that "business as usual" has to change. Ken, you were and are the voice of many of us who "smell a rat" but don't voice it directly to the offenders. We need to step up and protect ourselves, our communities, our country from sleazy and manipulative political hacks. Note that the sheriff stated that all of the workers had been vetted for their immigration status. The ICE raid is meant to terrorize both the immigrants and the employers. It's time to join you and all of the courageous resistors, determined women and men, young and old, and lend our voices and efforts in this fight. THANKS AGAIN!

Oh, so much to unpack in today’s column!! I hardly know where to start, but I will begin with that old saying “A fish rots from the head down.” The Republican party knuckled under to Trump and MAGA, so he is the head, and it does not surprise me that even down to a local town board, everything stinks. Although in all fairness, small town politics have always been prone to good old boys networks and cronyism even before Trump. But the new and uniting factor in all the issues you raised today is the complete and utter lack of shame. The golfing, the childish snit over the AP (and a White House spokesman who perfectly channels the 8th grade bully mentality of his boss), the ICE abuses, the snatching away of Federal funding, Stefanik, and the Queensbury town board: what they all have in common is the brazenness of their actions. “Yeah, you caught us not only with our hands in the cookie jar, but we’re stuffing our faces too. Watcha gonna do about it?”

In addition, tRump very publicly verbally abused and threatened female Maine GOV Mills at the fully seated National Governors Assoc. mtg. last week, with barely a flinch from the men in the room. Rachel Maddow, MSNBC, showed the entire video where GOV Mills boldly and bravely responded to tRump’s nasty taunts re: her unwillingness to comply with his demands re:transgenders/sports. She repeatedly stated “I’m complying with state and federal laws…” to which Herr tRump replied “Well WE are the federal law…”

When he further threatened to stop “ANY Federal funding at all,” to Maine, Mills responded…”See you in court!”

His final sneering-faced words were…”Good, I’ll see you in court, I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one, enjoy your life after Governor…because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics…”

Still no visible flinches from the other governors …who sat like robots whose batteries had died.

Jam packed with vital information. Thank you. I came across Elise's speech yesterday, www.dailysignal.com/2025/02/22/trumps-un-ambassador-elise-stefanik-calls-for-a-global-doge.

I gagged as I read the CPAC transcript script from her speech Saturday, probably written by Miller and a gaggle of other anti-everything writers determined to pepper it with evangelical tones, like “coming to Glory” and other not-so-subtle hints of religiosity…along with potent fascist phrases designed to cement his base of false god followers.

Not having been given a “script” for yesterday’s Indivisible rally at the steps of Crandall Library…I inadvertently responded after the repeated refrains of “Where is Elise?” calling out… “SHE’S AT CPAC!” Several attendees must have gotten whiplash swiftly turning around back at me with angry facial expressions…as if I was a Trumper invading their space. Having already been shoved sideways and backwards by 3 women and a man in the first 5 min. as they jockeyed for positions close to the speaker being interviewed by a ?TV reporter, then pushing me further back so they could form their line at the bottom of the library steps…I began to feel Invisible… vs. part of their Indivisible peaceful protest.

Though at one point I heard the invitation to come up to voice hypothetical questions to Elise, and I had planned as a career woman veteran to challenge Elise’s failure to protest past and current cuts to VA health care etc……..I felt unwelcome to do or say anything in this crowd and slowly walked back to my car.

I’ve never left a peaceful protest “early”…not even the Golden Gate Park Vietnam War protest back in the ‘early 70s in my blistered feet from walking from the Oakland Bay Bridge up to the park, knowing I could be court- martialed for attending that event.

I tried to read Stefanik's speech; all I could think of was the book "1984" and Newspeak. Not a scintilla of truth but a cornucopia of fantasyland. Has anyone tested her for cognitive deficits?

If Vance's speech before the European group is any indication, Stefanik will be finding little companionship in the U.N. Of course, there's always N. Korea, Russia, the harsher ex Soviet states that align with Putin and some other widely scattered dictatorships. She can join them and sing "kumbaya" with them when she sees the vast number of delegates who cannot stand the sight of her.

We all know that Stefanik has been absent for years from her district and invisible to her constituency, other than those who donate to her campaign.

I watched Stefanik's speech at CPAC. I lost count as to how many times she sung the praises of "President Trump". Will she post on X about the atrocities of Putin and his invasion of Ukraine that took place three years ago this date? Doubt it.

I know it might be unpopular to some, but I've moved on from Stefanik and am now thinking about the special election, whenever that might be. Yesterday, I attended a meet and greet of the Democrat's candidate, Blake Gendebien that was held in Beekmantown. As I pulled into the parking lot I was surprised, pleasantly, that the lot was full as was the meeting room.

Time to think ahead. We need to get the DCCC to help promote Blake and prevent someone like Constantino, another "Ultra-MAGA" hack like Stefanik from being elected.

At the meeting, Blake brought up some issues that were not popular to some attendees, like some deregulation as it applies to small businesses and farmers. But, as I argued with some I said let's get him elected first, then discuss what he can do for the North Country later.

Stefanik soon will be known as a "former" Member of Congress and it can't happen fast enough for me, but as I said above, time to look ahead and get a Democrat to take her seat in the House.
