What struck me most about that article was what you pointed out, immediately after the interview, Stefanik scrubbed all of her (completely innocuous) Instagram posts. It's hard to know what to make of that.

It’s really sad when someone is that concerned about showing any part of their real self.

Yes. It is important to know the person behind the politician, I think. It helps discern their character, if that matters to a voter, and their interests and enthusiasms. Presenting a blank slate- except for curated social media tweets- doesn't help with that. Worse, though, is the downstate guy who, rather than say nothing at all, fabricated his education, work history, religion and, probably, his sexual orientation and criminal history. It's like we're electing and empowering these fictional personae, and what's going to come out of that?

Nothing will come of it. Citizens have come to accept and even expect this behavior in a candidate. Will be interesting to see what, if anything, becomes of congressman elect George Santos.

"Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely." Once she got her 15 minutes of fame during the impeachment hearings, she tasted the limelight and the power of national TV exposure and never looked back. I was impressed when Harvard gave her the boot and from then on she's been on a rampage for more fame and power. Her Chief of Staff is a classic Trumpian hack who knows how to invent the memorable one liners and negative nicknames for her opponents and detractors. REPs claimed when she first won that she was the "new REP young woman." Seems to me she's just another empty suited, name calling, Trump coattail riding, POS. But, regardless of whether Trump gets the nomination and adds her (or a Kari Lake like TV trained fake) as VP, she will be around for some years to come. My bet is a possible run for Senate, VP or a high paid pundit or maybe K Street lobbyist is in her future? The reality is the REP party is in meltdown, morally and ethically bankrupt, and adrift at sea with nobody at the rudder (and what exactly do they stand for anymore)? My gut is DeSantis becomes the 2024 nominee for POTUS, but DEMs just had a great year in terms of legislation successes and mid term elections, and by 2024 campaigns the economy should be cranking along and COVID in the rear view mirror! We have a very rocky road ahead, let's hope the next generations of voters get involved and understand the significance of what their vote means going forward. I can't wait to hear how she supports and explains all the lies and deceit by recently elected George Santos who now has taken the REP party to a new low. Even FOX News has asked the right questions but McCarthy needs that vote. Bizarro shock opera political theater is the new REP party strategy.

Santos is the poster child for the GOP. They needed someone to replace the former one, Madison Cawthorn.

Here’s a tweet by Steve Cohen. Gotta include it:

“This guy makes Herschel Walker look like George (I couldn’t tell a lie) Washington.

Jew-ish? That’s some chutzpah!”

I just watched him on a clip from FOX News that they showed on Morning Joe. When asked flat out for a definition of integrity he used classic deflection strategy but they kept hammering him so he blamed it on he just made a mistake and humans are all flawed and make mistakes. Maybe so, but when you run for Congress and everything you've said is a lie, that's another kettle of fish? LOL. He's already promised his vote to McCarthy for Speaker so you can count that corrupt REP to support him.

Stefanik said she has security and privacy concerns that didn’t exist back then, not in the way they do now. Capitol Police have identified an uptick in threats against her as a result of her rise in the Republican Party.

It’s hard for me to believe that she gets threats on the same level as what Liz Cheney receives. And the reason Cheney receives those threats is because she’s one of a small few in the GOP who isn’t too cowardly to come out and tell the truth which is that Trump lost the election and attempted a coup. The disingenuousness of Stefanik in still not being able to say that is insane. But yeah, she’s been called Trashy. I would suggest she’s more afraid of her own voters and that shapes her actions.

”Always maintain your moral compass,” her mom always said.

Mothers are always right even if we sometimes realize it too late. Is she going to be able to give that same advice to her own son?

She has my sympathy because I think someday she might look back with some serious regrets. Ray Donovan asked in entirely different circumstances, “Which office do I go to to get my reputation back?” Elise may face that question.

There is another reason why Liz Cheney receives threats, it is the same reason Nancy Pelosi receives them...

it is because a number of republicans -- stefanik leading the way --- in making those same attacks.

stefanik has not changed.. that is the problem.. .she has always been calculating and a liar.

Saying she lived in Willsboro was a lie. Saying she brought a fresh perspective to congress was a lie. Those were just tools in the calculus of her election.

The local media did not say she couldn’t be a congresswoman ‘with a child.’ It is a foolish belief and a lie. One television station said her life would change now that she had a child. She attacked that person and he and the station had to make retractions.

stiffy didn’t say thank you, she just proved the reporter was right because within weeks she started voting by proxy. Something she says she is against (did I mention she is a liar). She said she did it for the concerns of her child. So much for no change.

Anytime she ‘presents herself,’ you see who she is. She used to list the books she read. Never non-fiction, and certainly not book that would show she was educating herself. Like stiffy herself -- she reads fiction, and really not that much.

But let’s be upfront about her ‘fears’ about ‘security and privacy concerns’ are legitimate, but not for her. Her attacks about replacement theory led to a mass shooting in Buffalo. Her constant attacks on Nancy Pelosi, led to an attack where Pelosi’s husband was attacked with a hammer.

To be clear, on these attacks stefanik is not solely to blame, but she is doubly culpable. First for the acts and second for not taking responsibility for her part in the attacks. For lying!

In fact, I would guess the reason she is deleting her past on social media is not because she is ashamed, but because even that is a lie. She likely did not want to be a ‘Disney animation artist’ at age five. Maybe Disney a princess ---> that had slaves to listen to and follow her every whim.

I imagine it is hard to work for the princess. If you aren’t an evil liar like alex deGRASSe or maddie anderson; you aren’t long to be with stiffy. And every two months she has a different spokesperson. ‘Friends’ who point out her lies are sent to the dungeon.

It is clear, we know very little about stefanik.. if she has friends...? if she reads anything but children books now... ? if she has any actual stiffy doctrine?

If she said she did, would she say it with a polygraph attacked to her arm? - not likely.

--

Here is an irony.. but core to who stiffy is. After relentless posts of her ‘issuing statements’ and ‘wrote a letter’ but NEVER introducing bills that would change anything, I started posting various versions of the Peggy Lee song: “Is that All There Is?”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPP6UgkmyM4

Shortly after that, facebook started suspending my account. Who knows if stiffy or her toadies are responsible.. she lies too much to believe any response she would have.

Her choice was to start representing ny21 or doubling down on representing eLIEs stefanik.. If you have any doubt about the action she took -- hint, she does not represent New York 21st congressional district.

Unfortunately, with stiffy

That is what it is.

I also wanted to mention this as it pertains to Elise Stefanik’s political, if not personal, cowardice. If you go to National Endowment for Democracy you can find her smiling photo above a nice bio.

Recently, Volodymyr Zelenskyy came here and gave an impassioned speech to Congress that was well-received by those of us who support the freedom of the Ukraine people against Russian attempts to subjugate them. That does not include many on the right in this country.

Elise Stefanik was never a moderate. She was Paul Ryan's whip and "knew" how and when to vote in order to appear moderate. That said, she has hardened over the years and now, as the article points out, sees enemies everywhere. She has, from day one, required extra security at local events and an escape route, even at the Washington County Fair Milking Contest for politi8ciians. When I threw my hat into the ring for a Congressional race, she requested all my emails from the Town Clerk. Interestingly, at one time she asked me to support her. A close friend who lives in Argyle taught at the school Elise attended. Elise was in her class. She remembers her as ambitious, steely and self-important.

I certainly remember an enormous amount of security at a town hall in Kingsbury where one of her supporters at threatened The Post-Star. I guess she was looking out for us - sarcasm intended.

I asked her about the level of security at the Schuylerville town hall in 2019. I had planned on asking about a border issue but as it happened I got the last question of the event and after hearing her answers to other questions I realized she wouldn’t give me a real answer on the border issue so I thought putting the question of the overwhelming amount of security and the cost was worth putting out for the public to consider. It was a moment she could have used to humanize her perceived feelings of being threatened, but of course she took it as an opportunity to talk about how she “supports the Blue.” But that wasn’t an answer the public deserved so as the event ended I put the question to the seeming officer in charge. At first he dodged, then he straight up lied and said the Capitol police had prescribed the security level, but eventually he admitted that Stefanik herself asked for that level of security, and I thanked him for finally being truthful. But people should ALWAYS remember that police are trained to lie. It is part of their SOP, just as it is part of Stefanik’s SOP.

This is a short and sad comment regarding Ms Stefanik because it is true and that is sad because she started out looking so promising, but because of influence of certain friends or idols she has become a

mentally sad young woman. I pray for her sake that something or person can enter her life and allow her to change her back to her earlier ideals!!! She & we would all be better off for it.

Some Argyle friends and I managed a face-to-face with Stefanik in early 2017, when she was refusing to hold town halls. She met with small groups of constituents, and about six of us met her as local Argylians. She said something in that meeting that explains her psyche to me. I told her that I thought the newly-elected Trump was the naked man in the story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” How could she support him, I wondered. She looked me straight in the eye and said “He won this district by 11 points.” That didn’t make much sense to me at the time, but it does now. It’s all about the power. And I suspect in her heart of hearts, she is hoping that power will fill up the holes in her empty heart.

The idea that Stefani has changed over time has become a trope. It isn’t true. She displayed her moral character from the start when she insisted she was from here and took $240,000 from Karl Rove to run in this district. It was perfectly legal for her to use her mother’s camp as her address. It isn’t that she wasn’t one of us, it was that she never cared to be one of us. She is self-centered, petty, vindictive, wiling to lie and cheat, and she projects her own moral failings on people she considers her enemies - many of whom are her constituents who she chose to alienate rather than reaching out to build bridges.

Language says a lot about people, in my opinion. While it is most likely an aide, or Alex DeGrasse, who writes her posts on Facebook, I would guess that about 80%-90% involve extremely bellicose language. Posts nearly always contain phrases about Biden's "war on ______" , how she is "fighting against______," etc. To me, this indicates a highly defensive temperament, and an offensive approach to politics. We are living in a time in which conflict reigns supreme, and she constantly pokes the bear.

Have you considered the fact of the shameless false accusations of Russian collusion and government agencies spying on a presidential candidate. Where was the local press? They were on the Russia Russia bandwagon. The first impeachment was a farse from the beginning as was the second. Again the media was on the bandwagon. It is fact that the Steele dossier was democrat opo research and unverifiable, again the media bandwagon. How about the disgusting treatment of Kavanah and then Barret. The media including local papers ignored the closing of the border under Trump and ignore the open-door policy of Biden. The media ignored energy independence under Trump and ignore the fact on 1/20/20201 Biden reversed the successful policies by rescinding them through executive orders. The media ignores the lawlessness growing in the nation much because of democrat enacted legislation and progressive DAs. Given all this, perhaps Elise sees what's going on and doesn't agree with it. Trouble is the media won't admit they got it wrong or they agree with what is happening. Where is the media on what has been exposed by the Twitter files? They attack Musk every chance they get but won't admit the government was violating the first amendment and media and social media companies have been engaged if state propaganda. Elise, I believe saw everything happening and that is what has made her a good politician. If you were honest, you would have told the readers that democrats have objected during elector counts for republican presidents and it is in the code which the democrats changed in the 1.7 trillion-dollar omnibus pushed thru without time to read it. If it was black and white, they shouldn't have needed to change it. Many democrats including Hilary claimed Trump was illegitimate after he won the 2016 election. Yet people who felt the same way about the 2020 election have been censored. I know my diatribe won't change your mind, Ken. It is shut tight.

It may have nothing to do with the column, but God I enjoyed reading it. There’s a meme among those on the right about liberal tears. His comment is filled with Trump supporter tears. I’ve read all of that nonsense so many times that I’m immune to being bothered by any of it. The misspellings just add a little je ne sais quoi to it all.

Meanwhile, this is where the Leader is. This is from today’s Bulwark. The Olivia Nuzzi piece in New York is great.

It turns out that Trump’s favorite movie is Sunset Boulevard, which he apparently watches obsessively.

[He] once showed it to Tim O’Brien, the biographer, who wrote that when Norma Desmond cried, “Those idiot producers. Those imbeciles! Haven’t they got any eyes? Have they forgotten what a star looks like? I’ll show them. I’ll be up there again, so help me!,” Trump leaned over O’Brien’s shoulder and whispered, “Is this an incredible scene or what? Just incredible.”

Writes Nuzzi:

A washed-up star locked away in a mansion from the 1920s, afraid of the world outside, afraid it will remind him that time has passed … Well, he does not like the way it sounds for Trump.

His Followers still love him, tho. They really love him.
