I saw one Elise for Congress sign where "ELISE" was transformed into "ELIES" and I had to do a doubletake, since it was done so well

I'm thinking it's a crime to deface a political sign. May be better to make your own sign.

It should be a crime to lie to your constituents.

Recall Stefanik made an ethics complaint against Judge Merchan at Trump's hush money trial. Wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Stefanik to press charges on the homeowner. She's that cruel.

You are probably right about that.

I would think it’s perfectly legal for the owner of the political sign to alter it. It probably would be a different matter if that were done to someone’s else’s sign.

We still have free speech rights, at least for the time being, as long as Trump is not elected in November.

The owner of the sign is likely the candidate unless the homeowner purchased it.

I would be careful though knowing how vindictive congresswoman Stefanik can be.

Interesting about the potential ownership of a political sign. While I wouldn’t see any real strategic advantage to the Stefanik campaign making an issue of the sign, it’s certainly true that the Republican Party and many of its supporters have taken an unapologetic turn towards the extreme hard-right. Just look at Trump and Vance doubling-down on their racist lies regarding Haitian immigrants in Springfield Ohio, as well as the recent revelations regarding Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson of North Carolina. So I guess in today’s political environment, anything can happen….

In light of the Mark Robinson revelations, a reminder that Stefanik backed Carl Paladino in 2022. So she, Paladino, Robinson and Trump along with so many others make up the current rot in the GOP.

She’s obviously going to be re-elected. The solace is she’ll be relegated to being a loud, bitchy minority and can watch Democrats conduct legitimate investigations.

Not to mention her endorsement of George Santos….

If the sign is in a person’s yard they are the owner of the sign, unless they stole it from the side of the road. People can do what they want with their own property.

Doubtful that a campaign lawn sign that is freely given out and "defaced" is a crime.

Coin flip may be a way to exit this unpopular idea with a small shred of integrity. It's crystal clear Queensbury board has a 3 to 1 split. That board can steamroll through anything they want. Queensbury may be back to the years of Doug Irish now that Metiview is back in the fold.

Thank you for posting the stats on overdoses and deaths. Too many people in our region have NO idea how bad this problem is in the upstate region. AND let's not forget, those are the worst situations, the drugs are everywhere and cause many horrific problems for families, law enforcement, etc.

As on Heather Cox Richardson today, these drops in deaths are due to the Biden/Harris administration prioritizing disrupting the pipeline and having naloxone readily available.

“Yesterday morning, NPR reported that U.S. public health data are showing a dramatic drop in deaths from drug overdoses for the first time in decades. Between April 2023 and April 2024, deaths from street drugs are down 10.6%, with some researchers saying that when federal surveys are updated, the decline will be even more pronounced. Such a decline would translate to 20,000 deaths averted.

With more than 70,000 Americans dying of opioid overdoses in 2020 and numbers rising, the Biden-Harris administration prioritized disrupting the supply of illicit fentanyl and other synthetic drugs. They worked to seize the drugs at ports of entry, sanctioned more than 300 foreign people and agencies engaged in the global trade in illicit drugs, and arrested and prosecuted dozens of high-level Mexican drug traffickers and money launderers.

In March 2023 the Biden-Harris administration made naloxone, a medicine that can prevent fatal opioid overdoses, available over the counter. The administration invested more than $82 billion in treatment, and the Department of Health and Human Services worked to get the treatment into the hands of first responders and family members.

Addressing the crisis of opioid deaths meant careful, coordinated policies.”

As Brian Mann reported on NPR, that is certainly part of the reason, but most experts are not sold it is the entire reason. They believe it is too early to make that judgement.

Presumably there are serious issues for the Queensbury town board to deal with but they are using a tremendous amount of time and energy to seat a member for one or maybe 2 meetings - and then to be dismissed after the election.

A 'coin toss' for a seat on the Board! Unprofessional to say the least - just foolishness in order to save face. I did not agree to it, so its a 'coin toss' for one :).

Thanks for the heads up on the drug issue. This is no time for complacency.

Have we just become better at treating the symptoms while failing to address and deal with the root causes of addiction? (I.e., life meaning, self-worth, relational, survival, etc. issues).

Four years ago 10 of our Biden signs that we bought ourselves, and on private property, were taken and the Elise backs the blue and we back Elise signs were put in its place, how ironic. My friend and I went to Elise’s campaign office and asked for our signs back. Her little campaign chairman confronted us telling us we were being recorded and he was having us arrested. The Warren County sheriffs office called our homes. The deputy asked us what happened. We told them and they laughed. The deputy said that’s just what they said. They said they were told we were elderly, I laughed and the sheriff deputy laughed and said you don’t sound elderly. One of the young workers said oh probably one of our volunteers took them! I said well, you know your volunteers, ask them. Never got them back.

I went to the balloon festival Sunday morning. I have been going to the area for almost 30 years and now live a half hour away, and never went. It was amazing! I'm so glad I went.
