Thanks for subscribing. We remember Kate well. Hopefully, her experience at the P-S helped some with her later success, but it was clear she had the talent. I read her first book years ago and it was wonderful. I’ve always loved Lake Placid too but I had not been back for years.

I probably saw more Jimmer games than she did and I got to do it as a fan.

Elected officials pledge to uphold the Constitution that is the foundation of the states/counties they serve. Sadly, many fail to do so. It is a politician's responsibility to take the pledge seriously. It is their constituents' responsibility to hold them accountable. Sadly, they doesn't always happen either.

Do you think that they should be required to read the Constitution before pledging to uphold it? I have heard that there are some in Congress who have not read it because it was written in cursive.

Hell, they should have to take a test on its content!

Thanks again Ken for reminding your readers about the importance of a moment in Olympic history that represents what is so good about sports, international competition, the promise of youth and so much more. The irony is that that game was no miracle. It was hard work, determination and an irrepressible spirit that beat the Soviets and won the gold. Glad you visited the Lake Placid Olympic Museum to relive the event.

They got a lot of breaks in that game, too. And they did have home-ice advantage! It’s why we watch sports.

Omg Ken, your column this morning was amazing! The power of the pen, all these years later and still so astonishing! Congratulations!

What was the composition of the attendees at the Elevate the Conversation get together? I would expect that the number of Democrats/Liberals would be greater that the number of Republicans/Conservatives. I would like to be wrong.

Also, do you think the same people will show up again?

I suspect this was almost an entirely made up of the local Dem. Committee, although there were some members of the press there. A Republican speaker might bring a more mixed crowd - Elise Stefanik, Dan Stec, Chris Gibson.

I think the survey should be

Should media run political ads that are not true?

Expand full comment

That is a very good question.

I suggest it mainly because, as you had seen with stefanik

first, she wouldn't take the pledge, but even when she did

she continued to lie.. and depended on various friendly media that

allowed her to bolster her lies with ads

I was one of the fortunate few who got to see the "Miracle On Ice" in person. I was working for the Marketing Dept. for the LPOOC just down the hall from the arena. It was close to 5 pm and I was alone in our office when someone stopped in and suggested I go and watch the game. I really wasn't a hockey fan but I had "infinity" accreditation which allowed me entrance to all venues and events so I decided to attend as I had no where else to go at that time. I was in the first row of the SRO section directly behind the net (leading into the arena). The atmosphere was electrifying and at times I felt like I'd faint as I was dizzy with excitement. It's an experience that even 43 years later is forever etched in my memory. BTW - it was televised live on Canadian TV which provided residents of the North Country to watch it in real time. Also, I was a board member of the Olympic Museum and the new museum is a treasure and well worth a visit.

I’d love to talk to you about the new museum. My email is tingleykenneth4@gmail.com and maybe we can set up a short interview.

I don’t know if it will make a difference bu they should pledge not to lie.

In a perfect world, "politicians" would work for the good of their constituents, not personal gain. Originally, the representatives went to Washington, did their duty and went back home to their jobs. Now they live and drive in luxury How did the American people allow this?

We refuse to address campaign finance reform.

Absolutely!

I would like to delete "lie" from the political lexicon. It is strongly devisive. Both sides will always stretch the truth and put their best spin on the facts, but it doesn't mean they are always lying.

Point noted, but in Stefanik’s case she is lying.
