This is a beautiful rendering of some of what it means to be human. Thank you. If you haven’t had the pleasure already, I’d like to recommend Peter Robinson to you if you’re in the market for a new mystery writer. I believe you’ll find both good writing and a beautifully uncorrupted storyline within his pages. 📚

Bravo. For the courage to express this humanity and for your caregiving. Neither is easy; both are essential.

Therapy is a gift you give yourself. When life is full of pressures and stress we tend to forget about ourselves because we are busy giving to others. I think our bodies force us to slow down and reflect. Like cleaning out the closet, counseling helps sort out our lives, refresh, organize, and be kind to ourselves.

I've always admired your writing, you courage to open up the pages of your life. Alzheimer's is a disease that robs the one who suffers and the caregiver of life as they experienced it. It's a thief and the grief is overwhelming. My brother and two neighbor are living with their spouse's Alzheimer's. Their families have stepped up and are a great help. That doesn't take away the sadness and anger. A good therapist can be a lifesaver. I'm glad you've found one. Our mental health is as important, perhaps more so, that our physical health. Take care.

Anything by John D. MacDonald is great. The Travis Magee books especially, tho.

Thank you, sir, for this fine column. I forwarded it to a couple of friends who are therapists.

Therapists work hard, they give and give and give, and they deserve all the thanks they can get.

Will Doolittle spent years telling the personal and sometimes tragic stories of other people. When Bella and Willa embarked on “The Alzeheimer’s Chronicles,” they opened up their own personal challenges for inspection. The truly great journalists have an honesty and a bravery. And that is what we are seeing here. Goodspeed my friend.

Another thought. Finding a good therapist can be very difficult. As with everything on earth, not all therapists are created equal. Those of us, myself included, who have found a wonderful therapist might consider sharing a recommendation. I’ll start. Louise Finlayson is fabulous. She’s based in Albany but I meet with her on zoom. LouiseFinlayson.com. Blessings to all!

I am SO sorry you are going through all this! I’m so glad tho that you talked to someone about this and allowed yourself to cry. I hope you continue to to talk to that person. I think it would be so helpful for the stress you are carrying .

It makes me aware of this terrible disease and how blessed I am. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you, Will for your openness and honesty. I felt the same feeling of gratitude when i heard Fetterman recently about his depression, about how "winning" the election did not feel joyful how his family saw what he was unable to acknowledge, and how important it was for him to begin treatment....And also how sweet and deeply moving it was to return to the Senate and have Schumer and the rest of the democrats welcome him with open arms. His voice had the tears that come from being in touch with his heart--as you were and are. In our canned commercials and rote robotic like political rhetoric, i think how rare and sweet it is to feel someone speak what is true and deep. So thank you for touching the heart...and for touching our hearts....
