Probably haven't heard anything from local Republicans, because they think they are big and bad when it comes to bullying people, but once reality hits them in the face, they shrink like the true cowards they really are. Pathetic is the first word that comes to mind. I remember the ignorant antics of Mike Kibble and Brook Boyce. Both loud mouth punks that thought they were tough as nails. Mike even has a brother in law enforcement! Imagine the embarrassment that caused his brother! I saw on Mike's Facebook page once that he apparently lost a couple of good jobs because of his antics. Brook moved to a different state. Good riddance! Karma is a bitch, and they both deserved it!
It must have taken Tamara Mathieu so much courage to break away. I recall buying some of the lavender products made by the 12Tribes, thinking I was good supporting local business. Then as I learned more (thinking I'd see if one could go there and buy direct), I became wary. There is no win/win here.
I worked for Mr. Carl DeSantis for 21 years - started at HoJos and then later worked at Carl Rs.
I was the first server to be paid regular minimum wage at the Aviation Road HJ - which I think way back then might have been $4.25. But that made me responsible to make sure all of the sidework etc was done. Not easy.
Back then you learned every job in the place - I made a mean clam fry!
If I could physically still do it, I'd still be doing hospitality.
Met so many hard working good people in the restaurant industry.
Many or most of the trump voters don't read the same news we do. They are fed from the poison well and won't know (or believe) his disastrous orders until the eventual fallout, only to be told it was the "illegals" fault or the LGBTQ+ fault or Mexico's or Canada's or or or
Like Hegseth’s Born-Again mantra “Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior” in responding to hardline hearing questions about his lack of integrity, that line of defense (by the prospective Secretary of Defense!) has been used and abused by many self-acknowledged “sinners” to white-wash their past abuses of drugs, alcohol, women and children. Like “POOF!” - it’s in the past - so get over it everyone!
And like pedophile priests who confessed their child abuse weekly in confessionals to other priests who were bound by the Canon Catholic Code of Silence, those pedophile priest- perpetrators were serial killers of children’s’ spirits. I learned of this sin-perpetuation process during a year long chaplain residency program at Interfaith Healthcare Ministries in Providence, RI, as several priest classmates of mine “confessed” their shame and guilt in having been held hostage by laws within a ministry they joined in hopes of serving God and all “children of God.”
Cults of all sorts continue to exist… within churches, the military, our state and federal government, police and fire depts., schools and athletic organizations… where the Code of Silence evolves into “Silence is Compliance.”
Fortunately, the author of this new book found a way out to finally protect her children. And a way to break that cult’s Code of Silence.
Rules have changed re: criminal- confessions which pose a clear and present danger to actual or potential victims…and i would have to do my recovering Catholic research into archives to resurrect those specifics…
so like Educators and therapist.. they are mandated reporters...
amusingly.. though not funny... now murderers don't have an easy path to heaven, because now they fear their confession might get them arrested (and maybe help)
Re the passing of Dick Leland, an avid sportsman from roughly my era at Glens Falls Hi, I Imostly identified him as an active player and backer of the long running football Greenjackets.
Another individual who came to local fame in that era in the 50s and 60s was Carl DeSantis, who also just died, in his 90s. He was a well placed Republican and the Warren County chairman, a restaurant owner who became a major figure in the state Restaurant Association and maybe the first in the region to franchise with Howard Johnson’s, then a very hot corporation. Re the Chapman Museum’s formidable exhibit on prominent local restaurants, the long ago era of the 50s and 60s had two remarkable restaurants - Fan and Bill’s (back into the 40s even) and then the iconic Alfonso’s (50s and 60s) steak house. Both were on Route 9 in Queensbury and Alfonso’s had several later iterations, including Johnny Rockets. We common folk could go once in awhile (special occasions) to Alfonso’s and many celebrities, including, for example, Governor Dewey and footballer Frank Gifford could be seen there. In my own case, on my family’s two visits to Alfonso’s one summer around 1960, my sports fan dad pointed out Baseball icon Bobby Thomson (who had a decade before hit the most famous home run ever hit -for the NY Giants) and, on a separate visit, the man who built the Yankees dynasty, George Weiss.
Thank you for providing the receipts to our non-energy crisis. I keep thinking back to when Biden approved the Willow Project. Isn't that what the Republicans wanted? Yet, I heard not one complimentary or congratulatory essay or remark about it. Even the Democrats were relatively quiet. Only the progressives came out in protest and that flew under the radar. Anyway, we don't need to "drill baby drill."
The Colonial Restaurant, once located in the red brick building at 38 Elm St., across from the current Farmers Market, was once a favorite 1940's - 50's special night out for my parents, with its octagon sunken bar and live piano music. My grandmother took me there for my first big-girl lunch at the age of 9 - where I had my first triple-decker "BLT with T" sandwich. So many great hometown memories of family, friendships and food. And The Chapman is to be congratulated repeatedly for celebrating countless happy-happenings embedded within our local history. Thanks Ken, and Will, for fortifying us with positive memory reminders in the midst of these tumultuous times.
Thanks for highlighting Tamara M’s book and experience. Was not aware of the Twelve Tribes cult.
Any group, be it religious or secular, that preaches and/or practices humiliation, domination, and manipulation is dangerous and dehumanizing.
We need to recapture Dr. King’s vision of “the beloved community”—a vision grounded in the life and teachings of Jesus, and a vision shared by Gandhi, the Dali Lama, Mother Teresa, and many other like minded people.
Don how would you define manipulation? How would I know If were being manipulated if I had only the words of others to rely on?
In 1 john 4 a test exits. A question to ask to weed out the false prophets. In time the false prophets would learn of this test and give the correct answer. Passing the test the words of the false prophets would be taken as true. How then would they know what was true, is there another test?
Regarding the Fraternal Order of Police, I reached out to them to see what their candidate endorsement process is. If I get the nod from the county chairs and I hear back from them (the acronym is FOP) I will let you know.
I saw a video of one of Stefanik's nomination hearings and then a recent picture of her. She looks very much different than earlier pictures or videos. It would appear that she went above and beyond improving her looks. I guess I didnt notice until now.
Interesting. Do you often suggest books by local authors? My husband wrote a book that was published this past September , it is an automotive history book. I was amazed at how much research he did.
I wonder, are there any groups, religious or otherwise, that practice community, sharing, and simple living, but do not also have rigidity of thought and the subjugation of certain segments of humanity at their core?
The Quaker church seems to embody the respect for human dignity, in thought, prayer and actions. They don’t toot their own horns like many religious sects.

Mike K. seems to have settled down. Boyle has relocated south - good place for him!
And I'm also not sure that it embarrassed his brother...
I think you may be referring to Mike Kibling who was involved in the downtown protests in 2019.
Yes. Thanks Ken.

I'm so looking forward to the Chapman's display!

Great paper this a.m., Ken! Thank you.

That is the sad reality I fear.
I read an article yesterday about a woman who was pardoned and declined it says he knew what she did was wrong and accepted the punishment.
Yes, one of the few who accepted responsibility for her actions on Jan. 6.
Yes, I saw that story too. Not many people with a conscience like that.
Isn’t that the truth and also sad.
Ugh.. I woke up and listened to this (on the app you can do text to voice)
As an atheist, I have never had a problem with religion... I especially embrace most of the morals they have...
I love when the religion and religious leader who are brave enough to support morals.. like Bishop Budde.
But when religion uses their powers to gain wealth and power. When they suppress people to to gain wealth and power...
It is no longer about a higher power or supreme being.. but
being in power

Wow, wish I could triple like this...
But I wonder... what is the role of the priests who hear the confessions.. not just in this context.. What if a murder is confessed
What if they confess the murder of a nun

And to also rebuild her life. No easy task. It is not easy to come to terms that you may have been wrong about a significant life choice.
WEll talk about saying a LOT in 28 words!!!!
Heavy dose of misogyny in this account as well.
I am often lost...

I have read pos_tfnKKK's fb page for 10 years and got sick and tired of her only expressing compassion
While ignoring the Prominent Democrats who have passed or done something great.
Great stories! Thanks for sharing. I did not know Carl.

And Don is a long-time minister!

I haven't gotten a returned email yet from FOP.

I will mention books of interest to me, but it would be impossible to mention all the books of local authors.

That's true. Like Hannah in The Witch of Blackbird Pond...
