Thank you for this support of Medical Aid in Dying. I believe it's past time to provide comfort and choice to those who are on the edge of death, but whose bodies still linger in pain and suffering. The NYS Senate is on the verge of passing this bill; we need everyone to call their Senator and speak for this bill.

The callousness of the “we’re all gonna die” attitude in taking away health care for the poor and the scaremongering on the Aid in Dying legislation is plain evidence of the lack of humanity among today’s political class. These folks are servants, not rulers. We need to remind them of such.

...yes, there is a tragic "lack of humanity" in today's politics; as there has been, at least, since Ronald Reagan; but it is not all-inclusive "among [the] political class," it is in one party- and in one party only: Republicans...

While it may be more prevalent behavior among the right, it is not universal to them, nor all of them.

That was my thought reading it that Dan Stec and Jim Tedisco could chat with Joni Ernst who could set their minds at ease over the facts of life and death and the Tooth Fairy. Gotta love how they sanctify life when it’s convenient.

I suspect that the success of #BunkerBoy’s order to re-name the Gulf of Mexico will lead to his ordering dictionaries to redefine patriotism. Henceforth, the term patriotism shall mean: MAGAism.

Everything (I mean EVERY f-ing THING) I have read about TACOtrmpy tells me he is mentally destroyed.. but worse, those who are supporting his agenda trail to dictator...

BUT

It is the entire spineless gQpedo party that is allowing democracy to go down in flames

I really hate to admit this, but the Dems - mainly the old guard who still believe "decorum" and "bi-partisanship" are more important than doing what they were elected to do - really did not help us.

maybe I am old guard, because I believe in those things.

But righ now i believe EVERY SINGLE person who is affected by TAC0trmpedo should be taking him to court... For example: I mentioned in a comment that I have a lifetime pass to the National Parks.. which I feel has been undermined by shortages of Rangers and spend....

The ALCU

I believe in them too - but the Repubs do NOT! Thats one reason we are in the pickle we are in. Waiting (!) for the repubs to (what) wake up? While the Dems remain "shocked and confused"? How long do we all wait & call & email our "representatives" asking/demanding they get off the stick & DO something. Putting up billboards with examples - human examples - of whats being done to all of us - citizens and migrants. Shoving that in people's faces!

And absolutely what is being done to our Parks, Monuments, Wildlife Refuges is unconscionable. As well as our Public Lands. This whole "doge" fiasco and the firing of scientists, researchers, and all of the people who have actually done the work of running the government scares the hell out of me. The idea that those of us who are on soc.sec. could lose it - and people who very much deserve their SNAP benefits and the other help? WTH?

Anyone who isnt aware of all of that and more has their head where the sun dont shine!

I didn't mean to suggest you didn't... and I agree...

Everyone needs to play by republican rules if they want to win.

Time to suppress the republican vote and do all the things they do to win elections.

But I will say, I saw some podcast or some discussion (It might have been an interview with a guy who is hinting he wants to run for president) where the question (repeated a couple times) the republicans had a Project 2025.. they lied and said 'it isn't our plan' but it was... and the question was:

"What is the democrat's plan?"

The was no answer, ironically there are several (Bernie Sanders and AOC) who do have plans and state them, but the DEMs refuse to cede any power to them

Expand full comment
Maggie's avatar

That seems to be the problem - not only the confusion & shock, but having NO plan! I just dont understand why Trump's agenda is a surprise - anyone who paid attention knew of project 2025 well before the election - were they so certain Kamala would win that there was no Plan A (or B or C) Thats what gets me - All these older (and too many ARE) Dems have been around for decades - and they just seemed to act as tho the Repubs were going to go back to being the "grand old party". Frankly, Biden seemed to feel that way, too. I mean - THINK - we had four years of Trump already -they should have been well-prepared to fight back.

This is an important bill. While my nearly 90 yo mother is in good health, we are both glad she lives in VT. She showed me the paperwork and it's quite comprehensive. We went over it together, filling in what we could, but there were questions she wanted to discuss with her Dr. I'll be calling on Dan Stec.

It seems not a single day goes by that pos_tfnKKK doesn’t demonstrate how putrid she is.. It seems like there must been a day when she would be on vacation.. or a single day when she is proving she isn’t lying about loving her son.. that she goes 10 minutes expressing love and compassion.

There are many like her.. and those who like her.. but since she represents NY21 and I see her actions and dialog on line, and sadly her supporters... that I think not only is she evil incarnate, that those who supporter her must be on a level par with her.

Obviously she is a crime boss and anyone who works for her are cut from the same asbestos of Beelzebub bunting

But I am of the mind that 'Democracy dies in Darkness'

maybe closed minds can NOT be changed.. but: 1) those who think, need to stand up to evil; 2) walking away from a fool and what they believe. . . . to ignore ignorance . . . . is to allow them to spout lies unchecked.

and maybe when I am in the gulag with these fools, I will be able to say: "I told you."

I wrote to Tedisco weeks ago asking him to support the Medical Aid in Dying Bill and have not heard back. I will call later today. This bill, similar to abortion rights, does not mandate, it merely gives people the option. Why it's anyone's business which medical decisions we make, irritates the h#@& out of me. Additionally, I knew Preston Jenkins personally and he was a genuinely kind, thoughtful and patient man. He will be missed.

I once saw a video that Ashli had posted on Facebook while she was on her way to the Capitol. She was screaming at the camera and acting like a lunatic! She was saying how the election was stolen and she was going to take it back. She should have stayed home and taken care of her children. I don't feel sorry for her at all, only her kids.

So it is a little offsetting to see criminals positioned as hero's.. (on the way to a dictatorship)

I think it was Lucien Truscott's substack column yesterday that pointed out the stealth loyalty oath now inserted into Federal job applications, aimed at replacing or re-hiring the many thousands of employees that will have to repair the social safety net DOGE destroyed, after 90 years of helping our citizens.

There are now four "essay questions" in the application. Number 3 reads something like: "Name those of the executive orders that you believe best serve the President's agenda to protect and help the American people. Explain why." The rolling coup goes on, stealthily changing our government into a dictatorship. God help us to wake up & vote next year - if we still can.

The only thing Stefanik is good at is spewing hateful words. She tries to break my people down with her ignorant words Wonderful talent! She is a classic narcissist. I was caregiver for both my parents in our home where they passed. It was tough but in their cases, I would not have used the end of life medicine. However, I support the passage of this bill to allow the choice for anyone to choose that path. Who knows what the future holds

The “assisted suicide” phrase seems like a misguided and failed attempt to replace “mercy killing” which in turn was a failed attempt to describe “euthanasia” which literally, in the Greek, means “good death.”

Every person deserves a god death—the right to die with dignity— and the current State Senate bill is another positive step in that direction.
