The thing about Noem and her ilk, including her boss, is that they are merely blazing the trail for even greater corruption in the future. Do you not see her and her boss as an example of all the criminality, venality and corruption that can be done without consequence? Do you not think that those who follow in her or his footsteps will not be even more egregiously sinful and corrupt? It will only get worse. But what are you going to do about it?
More than one comedian / pundit has noted that how unbelievably unqualified this administration is.
And as I write that I realize the great problem in the world is that those who support this horrible administration are people who do not understand much.. and certainly not the nuances of government

I hope Gillibrand is wrong and that Murkowski decides to grow a spine and vote against rescission.
Today's Republican Party is corrupt to its core and in it's fealty to their dear leader, Donald J Trump and they praise and worship him as if he is a god. They dare not cross him, lest they be struck down by him.
Well, Elise Stefanik and her spokesperson Alex DeGrasse were back at it again this week after Blake Gendebien put out an AI generated video mocking her. Elise and Alex, as usual, claimed it was "sexist". But, as anyone who follows them on X, as I do, they have no problem denigrating and disparaging anyone who does not share their ideologies. But, woe is Elise when she is the target. In my opinion, the "star" of that video doesn't even look like her in many of the shots. Maybe Elise should look into the mirror once in awhile.
I am hoping that as time goes on, that, as with the Epstein file fiasco, and as more details reveal themselves as to what's in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the current MAGA/Republican Party collapses into itself.
I recommend watching the YouTube video of Ali Velshi's interview last week with Judge Luttig where he compares the Republican Party as lemmings walking the country off a cliff into tyranny
The Daily podcast (NYT) had a great discussion with the manager of an Alaskan radio station that serves a small community of 3000 or so. He said there 5-person station would be reduced to two and most of the local programming would be eliminated. The town voted 2-1 for Trump and does not like NPR. No other radio stations in the region.
I believe the underlining goal of Project 2025 and the republican party is to hamstring everything into failure then to say it never worked.
Alaska is is much the same as pos_tfnKKK's district there are places where (without NCPR) there is no radio.. and many others if their is radio it is without a local staff and NO local news.. often part of a monopoly of right-wing media.

"Letting Kristy Noem dress up as "Ballistic Barbie" might be the least damage she will ever do."
Perhaps Noem should dress up in a dunce cap and be relegated to the Cabinet Room corner for her incompetence in managing the FEMA response to the Texas flash flood.
FEMA failed to pre-position staff and support in advance of the predicted flash floods in "Flash Flood Alley," waiting 72 hours to respond, and failed to renew call center contracts, resulting in numerous unanswered telephone calls from flood victims.
And why is Noem allowing the FEMA Acting Director to be missing in action during this disaster? (I bet most people had no idea, despite the coverage this disaster has received, that David Richardson is the Acting Director of FEMA. Yeah, exactly, who’s that….)

The president added that the Homeland Security secretary was “right on the ball” and has “done a great job.”>
I'm sure Trumpty Dumpty has told her that several times, except in a completely different context and scenario, considering his track record with women.

At its best, for the gQpeds, the problem is it is objective.
In simple terms it is not fox news.
Public Broadcasting tends to lean heavily on what is not bias. The perfect example is for the big beautiful bullmanure the look to the Congressional Budget Office (https://www.cbo.gov/publication/61461). I noticed a step into the manure when gQped congress men and women defense of the bill was to do two things: first they attacked the CBO.. because that non-partisan agency that provides Congress with objective, independent analyses of budgetary and economic issues.
Second was to change the numbers, not to count expenses so they can say it won’t add to the deficit. It’s like me saying, if I keep spending on my credit card, but don’t pay the bill, I will be a millionaire in 10 years. Ignoring I will also be three million in debt.
And to kill children.. republicans don’t want objective...or real numbers. Because as bad as it is to kill children, it is worse to do so and not profit. Which clearly is how they think.
I look at Brooks and Capehart (https://www.pbs.org/newshour/tag/brooks-and-capehart) as the finest example. Both are civil, logical (for the most part) and use facts. Brooks is a conservative and Capehart is liberal.
In fact, it is so annoying because often David Brooks, who is far from liberal will say something.. and though I tend to disagree with the point he is making, I have to concede HE IS RIGHT.
I'm speechless! I have a question??? If the repugnants lose the House and the Senate in 2026, can she be investigated and removed from office???? I know my ignorance is showing, however, I'm not afraid to ask the question..thanks
Cabinet members can be impeached, but pretty sure you’d still need 2/3 of the senate to go along.
The better outcome is for the crimes of the rich, powerful and connected to start to matter again. They did for Bob Menendez and they should for the crimes against humanity being perpetrated by Trump’s minions.
You're probably correct on that 2/3 senate vote for impeachment. However, theoretically, if Dems/Independents can gain even a slight majority in one or both houses, then they can take over all the committees and chair positions, use that power -- as Repuglicans do now -- to bring in the detritus for hearings and be prepared with a laundry list of failures, transgressions, findings, etc... to shame them publicly and demand their resignations. I would also think that some of their findings could be referred to criminal courts, though that won't go anywhere under the Trumpty Dumpty DOJ, FBI, etc... It would be a classic Catch-22.
Amen to that. I almost think part of the reason the Albany Tourist is talking about leaving the House is that she knows she’s going to be in the minority and that’s, reportedly, not fun.
The only downside to Democrats doing investigations is that there’s such a wealth of choices of what to pick. I guess I’d start with the cruelty of ICE, but no one wants to see all the emoluments violations overlooked. Good thing there are so many committees.
I expect Elise will be serving in the bunker phase of Trump’s presidency at that point.
Noem & hometown boy made good Tom Homan head up our deportation efforts, which I maintain amounts to brown people's genocide: Trump fired Immigration judges & defunded legal aid for asylum seekers, making paperwork waiting for legal US entry at the border even more intolerable with hungry kids & fears one of the cartels might catch up with you.
So desperate migrants jump the gun & enter illegally, therefore becoming the "law-breaking" hordes Trump's lied about for a decade, suitable for scapegoating & bounty hunting. As non-legals yet, he can then claim they have no due process rights, including arresting them while they cooperate with INS in the legal paper chase. ICE knows where to find them, waiting in line at the INS office, like our Sackets Harbor family on MSNBC.
Stopped for driving while brown, their birth certificates won't help if the birth parents' names look Hispanic. Lacking proof one of the parents is a US citizen (SCOTUS new rule), which is a tall order if they didn't get the new memo or proof's unavailable, they're busted.
New word for the day: DEnaturalization. Just now, if you're a naturalized citizen & they can dig up any old or new crime, offense, or omission in your paperwork, they can reverse the process & make you a captive or a fugitive. While (only) blue states fight this, until it's settled, hordes of captured victims will soon be in the El Salvador prison of no return, or dropped in a third world, war-torn nation where they have no family ties & don't speak the language. How long would you or I last?
Having read this genocide argument, we can all choose to be little Hitler's helpers (never angry our tax dollars fund this abomination), or little Schindler's helpers spreading the word & reporting this offense where it might do good. You may quote me, & report me at vandeusenn@aol.com.
Why on earth would she try to market Sioux Falls or Rapid City as a Paris when everyone knows that Chicago is the Paris of the Prairies? Get with the program Noem!
You mention the MediCARE cuts but they're actually MediCAID cuts. Medicaid is the federal/state program that funds medical care for the low income citizens, those with disabilities of any age, or elderly in long-term care facilities. Medicare is for the over-65's and is funded by our own FICA taxes. There will be a LOT of dead people, particularly here in the North Country.
The naming of health care programs and benefits can cause a lot of confusion, with people mis-referencing programs, especially Medicaid and Medicare.
For example, states administer the federal Medicaid program, but it’s often named something else. In 2022, up to 1 in 3 Medicaid recipients were unaware they were receiving Medicaid benefits. In California, the Medicaid program is known as Medi-Cal. In Massachusetts, it’s MassHealth. (In NYS, it’s just "Medicaid.")
In many states, when recipients lose their Medicaid coverage, some may not connect it to the Trump administration’s war on the vulnerable, and just blame their state.
ETTD is coming for Pam Bondi now. Hard to believe she didn’t notice how AG worked out for Jeff Sessions. The MAGA is likely to be very unhappy she’s joined the Deep State coverup of everything Epstein. She might not like them when they’re unhappy.
Hopefully Kristi Noem is going to find herself in a bad position with American justice when all hope of a Trump pardon has passed. Alligator Alcatraz awaits her. Maybe she can trade the Rolex for a pack of smokes.
Finally got a copy of TU article (by investigative editor Brendan Lyons) on this character Sarcone, who now believes he's the permanent U.S. Attorney for the Capital District and beyond. It's a lengthy article with new developments, including a judges' panel stressing they took no action on his application. Be afraid, be very afraid that people like him walk among us. ALBANY — John A. Sarcone III told WNYT on Friday that a panel of federal judges had voted to extend his tenure as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York beyond the 120-day limit of his current interim status.
A few hours later, WNYT updated its story with a statement from the Board of Judges of the Northern District of New York that said it “has taken no action with respect to U.S. Attorney Sarcone.”
Sarcone met with the panel, which has the power to keep him on the job, two weeks ago. He initially told WNYT that he had received word Friday that he would be sworn in again on Tuesday, the day after his interim tenure runs out. The story did not say who had given him the news.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Thomson, a spokesperson for Sarcone’s office, had no comment after being asked by the Times Union to confirm what he had told the TV station. And the office did not respond to a subsequent call asking for comment on the judicial panel’s statement contradicting the region's top federal prosecutor.
Sarcone, who was part of President Donald J. Trump’s legal team during the 2016 campaign, was tapped by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi in March to head the sprawling 32-county district, which stretches from Syracuse to Kingston in Ulster County and includes the state Capitol as well as the entire North Country.
The Times Union previously reported that in his efforts to remain on the job, Sarcone had solicited letters of support from law enforcement officials across the district, including sheriffs and district attorneys.
“I’ve got every single federal law enforcement agent singing my praises,” Sarcone told the Times Union last month. “I’ve got sheriffs … (from) 27 counties who have expressed their gratitude for what I’ve done bringing federal law enforcement to those communities. … Morale has been down in law enforcement, in this district … and now what I’ve done, my initiative has brought life back to these communities and to the law enforcement that are there fighting every day to protect their citizens.”
His position is considered interim because he was appointed by Bondi and not by the president, whose U.S. attorney appointees are permanent but must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The U.S. attorney general is empowered to appoint an interim U.S. attorney if there is a vacancy, which occurred in February when former U.S. Attorney Carla Freedman, who had been appointed by President Joe Biden, stepped down from the position. Since Trump has not appointed a permanent U.S. attorney in the Northern District, it fell to the district court judges to do so. The panel of jurists also has the option of appointing someone else to the position.
A knife-wielding man, a vacant building
The final few weeks of Sarcone’s interim period have been eventful.
Last month, he was involved in an incident in which a knife-wielding undocumented migrant from El Salvador menaced him outside the Hilton hotel on Lodge Street in Albany. Saul Morales-Garcia was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charges were reduced to misdemeanor menacing. The 40-year-old swiftly pleaded guilty and is serving 90 days in Albany County jail, after which he is likely to face deportation.
The incident earned Sarcone national media attention, which he used to castigate Biden’s immigration policies and Albany’s status as a “sanctuary city.” He earned the ire of city police when he criticized them for not being in the vicinity when the crime occurred, although Sarcone’s immediate response was to call the cellphone of Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple and not the police.
Michael C. Delano, president of the Albany Police Benevolent Association, characterized Sarcone’s criticism of the department as “slanderous and inaccurate.”
Two weeks ago, the Times Union reported that the address Sarcone gave as his residence in the affidavit he provided to police was a decrepit building in Albany’s Sheridan Hollow neighborhood that is currently vacant and boarded up. (U.S. attorneys are required by federal statute to reside in the districts they serve.) Steve Sabba, a Westchester County developer and tax preparer whose company holds the mortgage on the property, initially said the unit had been fully renovated inside and was merely awaiting the delivery of new doors and windows.
Sabba ultimately acknowledged that the property would take far longer to complete due to what he said was damage recently caused by squatters. A city code officer, however, said no building permits have been issued for work on the property; the owner was subsequently issued a citation for failing to register it as a vacant building.
On Thursday, Sabba — a former legal client of Sarcone’s — said in an email to the Times Union that the federal prosecutor had secured a lease elsewhere in Albany.
Days after the publication of that story, Sarcone ordered the Times Union’s removal from the Northern District’s media distribution list. That directive appears to have been rescinded shortly after the newspaper inquired about it earlier this week.
It’s all grift with this administration and its sycophants. And every accusation is a confession.

Of course you are right, I still interchange them from time to time.
Great comments all. I can’t agree more with these statements.
