Watched several minutes of Stefaniks abuse of power. She went after Governor Hochul with a fierceness of a rabid dog. Seriously hard to watch. More of the same not allowed to even answer. That was well summed up a show.
This is the depth of Stedaniks intelect. A repeat of her attack of Harvard's directors.
What we will look back on in time is a remaking of McCarthy style attacks. It's out of control. But were in such a normalization of acting dramatic and rude. If my children were to have treated another person this way. I correct them publicly. This is the ugly American act. It's ok to be an ass because this is how our President acts.
Be better don't be a Republican or Democrat children. Be a good human.
Anyone else notice, Stefanik saves her worst venom for other women? I noticed that when she went after that very honorable Ambassador to the Ukraine, who Trump fired because she was anti-corruption and the regime in Ukraine at the time wanted her out. Then she went after the University Presidents, all three of whom just happened to be women, right? Now Hochul. I see her.
What was done to her was a page out of the Giuliani playbook when he was NYC's mayor. He ruined a few public servants career out of political convenience, absolutely no wrongdoing of any kind on their part, and not even an especially important reason to destroy them. And he got away with it.
Yes - both she and the Greene - hateful! I did watch enough to see Gov.Waltz get run over, but Pritzker spoke back & said so this is just a circus? I have respect for all three of them, but Pritzker does not take any crap and hes VERY sharp. I have to admit right now - hes not our typical Democrat!!
For a long long long time the policy of the Republican Party has been "if they're for it, we're against it" plain and simple. From what I recall it was Newt Gingrich who started it in earnest, the whole notion of no comprimise with them & then started to refer to the Dems as the enemy. Stefanik has taken that to a new level where reality is not even considered, but what the folks at home will cheer. I live in her district, in one of the Dem towns and I still can't fathom the intelecutal state of affairs when I realize that six in ten of my neighbors voted for her and thus condone what we saw yesterday. You are absolutely right, it's not about policy, it's about anger and resentment, and as the right as discovered, it's an emotion that wins elections.
For a long time, even under Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes, Republicans could make a passable argument that they stood for the Constitution. That would be ridiculous now. Beyond the second amendment, of course.
They stand for hatred of Democrats and brown people and whatever lunacy comes out of Trump’s increasingly demented brain.
Trumpism is going to be a hard sell when the price of groceries sky rockets and MAGA states can’t find workers to rebuild after hurricanes because Kim Jong Trump has deported all the people that look like Sen. Padilla.
For good measure, Stefanik is voting to close hospitals in “her district” by supporting the “big, beautiful bill.” Her district gets quotes because I’m not sure she’s been here since the last Congress was in session.
A little hard to understand the animosity towards PBS. Have the Republicans pointed to any specific programming they find so objectionable, they want to defund it in its entirety? When my kids were little, its children's programming was great, just very sweet shows. (Nickelodeon and Disney rocked , too, but they were paid tv). My little one just loved Frannie's Feet, where a little girl would try on shoes at her grandfather's shoe repair shop, and would then be transported to places all around the world. And I love the Masterpiece shows and my husband watches all the documentary stuff. I have a paid subscription to their streaming channel (PBS Passport). I just don't see anything there at all for the MAGAs to hate on.
In the Bronx, our best radio station was/is public radio: WFUV. I mean okay, sure, we get all the Irish music on Sunday (which had apparently a huge listener base), but its rock programming is world class and completely innovative. Pete Fornatale got his start there and came back at the end of his career when the commercial stations were all Clear Channeled.
I suspect that it's a hatred of the educated by the ignorant.
To be educated, and to enjoy the process of extending your education, takes a certain amount of guts. You have to be willing to admit that the things you know, or believe, might not be correct in every respect.
Conversely, for many people, to be proven wrong is to suffer humiliation.
The PBS fact sheet says they have 36 million viewers monthly on their tv channel and over the course of the year, 58% of tv viewing households tune in. 60% of their viewers are in rural communities. No idea how that compares to commercial tv, but feels like there is something of a base there. I love Masterpiece Mysteries and would be sad to lose it.
Stefanik's attacks on Hochul are all about her possible campaign for Governor, but I wonder if it will backfire. To have a shot, Stefanik would need to get a lot of Dem and Independent votes; people tepid towards Hochul (like me), might like her more if Stefanik attacks her (like me again). Color me a Never Stefank-er; I think she is such a troll, I'll vote for anyone who runs against her.
Standing up for what you believe can have a real impact!
This, from the NYT:
"The Trump administration has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three U.S. officials with knowledge of the guidance."
"The new guidance comes after protests in Los Angeles against the Trump administration’s immigration raids, including at farms and businesses. It also came as Mr. Trump made a rare concession this week that his crackdown was hurting American farmers and hospitality businesses."
It was such a bizarre turn-about because rural communities have been saying this for years about immigration. Trump administration classic example fire first deal with ramifications later.
Trump is too lazy and too stupid to actually work on passing legislation to fix immigration. He could just resurrect Lankford’s bill, call it his own and take a win. Since he’s always run his own “business” with few employees he was able to run it by diktat.
And, picking up these people at their homes, schools and churches instead of at their jobs, will slow ICE down but still ends up deporting them. And if Trump is going to unilaterally, by executive fiat, create a carve out for three industries, including the one his business empire is based on, what about all of the other businesses that employ immigrants? Like my own small business; 2/3 of my staff are foreign born (all documented), but still, we could use an exemption, too. ICE has been showing up in my community to do I9 audits at small businesses, (not in those sectors he just exempted). Why should they be treated differently?
Still, we’ll see what he actually does because he’s apt to go along with whoever the last person is to have his ear. Miller, Bannon and much of the base still want them all out.
It’s going to be a real dilemma satisfying the xenophobes and, at the same time, business owning Chamber of Commerce Republicans whose labor is either being deported or are afraid to go to work.
As my Mother would say, "Don't hold your hand on your A@@" I don't believe a word he says. He's hearing people are upset with these raids, so he says he's going to take a look at it. I don't buy it for a minute. President Steven Miller isn't going to back away from the current policies, in fact, they will be ramping it up.
The irony is that on things like immigration policy most Americans agree that there should be a legal process. The difference between Dems and GOP this year is that GOP lies so much more. Elise Stefanik is perfect example.
Before hmpy trmPEDO (and I mean back to when he was lying about Obama's citizenship) there was the cliché: "all politicians lie." But they didn't really bold face lie.. there was the lie of omission... or the selective lie where they would take a report or research and just take out that part that benefited them. (as bad as Nixon was, much of what he said... fell into those two narratives and he could say 'I'm not a crook,' and techically he had never been convicted (something hmpy trmPED0 has to out and out lie about because he has been convicted) )
And certainly the Democrats still do that... and the general public still doesn't like (It should be pointed no unelected person liked that.. and it wasn't always easy to research, but we understood).
But now, the gQpedos just lie about things that are then easily fact checked and proven.
And they lie often, if not always. and they are bold face lies
Stefanik's vitriol towards Hochul was not surprising at the committee hearing that she's not even a sitting member of. She just added a few more viral moments to raise funds for her expected campaign for governor.
Just as Trump's Birthday North Korean style military parade today, it just shows how the Republican Party has descended into darkness and a lust for absolute power.
As for me, today I think I will watch the original Willy Wonka film with Gene Wilder. That is, after I put out The Flag and my "Protect Democracy" sign.
Thanks for the quote from "The Newsroom." Jeff Daniels did a masterful job as the character Will McAvoy. And Aaron Sorkin really knows how to write about politics and politicians.
I can"t believe that someone who represents the North Country, and is a mother herself, would want to defund NPR and PBS! My son grew on both from Sesame Street up to National News. He served in the US Navy in the submarine service, and is a model citizen and wonderful man. These stations provide so much for our country .
Unfortunately Ken is correct. And kudos to Governor Hochul for standing up to the Republican schmucks (schmeck is the proper Yiddish plural) in the House.
As of now, Stefanik is silent on the assassination of a Democratic lawmaker and her husband in Minnesota and the attempted assassination of another Democratic lawmaker.
Even Trump, Lawler & Speaker Johnson have condemned it.
the Newsom Comeback, aka 'momma told me to knock you out.'
BUT, if the discussion would have gone even three rounds, hucks would have ended up in her corner a bloody pulp
ª economy (CA = $4.1 Trillion {with a T}; AR = $141.4 Billion {with a B})

YES!
she is such a turncoat, and it is most obvious in her attack of women
When she attacked hmpy trmPEDO's rape victim... there was no turning back
Marie Yovanovich was the ambassador to Ukraine who stood up to Trump, Guiliani and the rest of the henchmen. She’s an American hero.
Stefanik and Greene are demagogues who will likely sink back into the swamp after der führer wolfs down his final cheeseburger.
Movements built only on hate don’t endure.

I think describing Stefanik's behavior as "McCarthy-style attacks" is accurate.
Thank you!
Two essential questions: What does it mean to be human? What kind of human being do you/I want to be?
Kindness and empathy MATTER - despite what we are seeing right now.
Kabuki theater with real lives at stake. Disgusting.

This is just such an irrational thing to defund.
I suspect that it's a hatred of the educated by the ignorant.

The hate comes naturally. And is hard to escape.
I saw a podcast.. by the group: "Pod Save America"
And they were going through the bad characters of the gQp and pointing out the dumb....
They got to pos_tfnKKK and shook their heads.. to paraphrase: 'Her, she knows better, she is smarter.'
My sense is they knew her, personally and knew what a player... a pos... she is.
I still suspect the vast majority of people do not watch PBS or listen to NPR so they are just hearing the GOP talking points.
The PBS fact sheet says they have 36 million viewers monthly on their tv channel and over the course of the year, 58% of tv viewing households tune in. 60% of their viewers are in rural communities. https://www.pbs.org/about/about-pbs/blogs/news/pbs-2025-fact-sheet/
But what are those GOP talking points, that is what I don't see- what shows do they object to?
They want more of a Sean Hannity type on News Hour. 🤢

It really is hard not to hate republicans.. the TAC0eaters that they have become
lead in hate by hmpy trmPEDO.. and his kneeling lieutenant pos_tfnKKK, their crimes against the constitution require time in Jail.
others.. I only hope we can deprogram them from the cult
Sadly, I think it is all about racism, they have never gotten over a black president...
The irony is that on things like immigration policy most Americans agree that there should be a legal process. The difference between Dems and GOP this year is that GOP lies so much more. Elise Stefanik is perfect example.
