That’s a good point. My goal is not to necessarily make this a national debate but to let everyone know what Rep. Stefanik did since she is the local representative. Since she is a Republican, I wanted to point out that other members of GOP broke ranks.
I’m kinda happy to see “George Santos” survive. It’s a big load of hypocrisy for D’Esposito, Lawler and the rest to try to boot him after just voting for a guy for speaker who worked on the coup effort.
That’s not to mention the front runner for president on the GOP side who has 91 felony charges against him. I presume they’re all backing him. So, what the real difference between DJT and GS? Neither is convicted.
Just to bring our rep into this. She knew what Santos was ahead of time and supported him anyway. How do those downstate reps feel about that?
We're experiencing the same here in Washington County. The Republicans have endorsed a newbie, with no experience, to run for County Clerk. The result, Republicans, Dems and Unaffiliated have mobilized and are endorsing the current and vastly experienced County Clerk, Stephanie Cronin.
County Clerk is a four term. Emily McCabe McCarthy has never stayed at any job for longer than 2 years and a couple months. The clerk's office has to meticulously manage more than $20 million in revenues and clerk fees. Emily has zero experience in finance or business administration. Pam Vogel's Deputy Clerk is retiring as well. This campaign should not be about party affiliation. It should solely be about experience and competency. Carrie Black has demonstrated she has both. Listen to Pam Vogel. Pam knows best.
Sorry, meant to add County Clerk also manages 19 employees, monthly financial forms and developing a yearly departmental budget. Carrie Black has that experience. No such experience for Emily McCabe McCarthy. Too important a position for a party line vote or on the job training.
Would you please write about the County Clerk race in Washington County too? We have an incumbent, Stephanie Cronin, who has been our County Clerk for 8 years. The Republican Committee bypassed her and nominated Lisa Boyce, a Social Service worker in the county. I have not seen one article that has been written in a factual manner about this race and it bothers me that newspapers and the radio are allowing lies to be repeated.
Does anyone remember the terrible backlog of unprocessed tax forms during our Covid years? Lack of staff and funding aggravated the situation. Of course, tax cheats would love go see the IRS go away, and more and more we hear of our political and corporate leaders who make more money than generations of essential working class workers ( nationally and internationally) can even conceive of, find ways and "loopholes" to evade their tax responsibilities. You are right, Mr. Tingley, to highlight those who vote to defund services that would expose criminal activity. They are corrupt, no other way to say it.
A letter to the editor in the Chronicle seemed to know derails about Pam Vogel, and seemed to want to separate Ms. Vogel from her purportedly former Republican Party registration. No matter, it doesn't take away from the fact that she supports the best candidate for the job.
Endorsements mean little to me, especially when they are expected. So McCabe being endorsed by hacks like Elise Stefanik and Dan Stec or Black being endorsed by Tom DiNapoli do not affect my vote. But being endorsed by the incumbent of the other major party is a lot more significant. Especially since the retiring incumbent treated the job like a true public servant.
I usually ignore endorsements, but actually liked the DiNapoli one. I could be wrong, but I don't think he throws them around (or maybe I just didn't notice). But a good fiscal guy endorsing someone for a job that needs good fiscal skills meant something. But I agree, a well respected predecessor, especially from the other party, means a lot more.
Unless I missed something, the Warren County clerk's campaign is the ONLY local race in Warren or Washington counties that has been covered by the Post-Star so far. Early voting started a week ago. Election Day is only a few days. The pale shell of a newspaper that remains really failing us.
What a pleasure to read your newsletter, Ken. You know your material, you check your sources, you give your sentences and paragraphs enough room to breathe. When you make a mistake, you announce a correction.
I voted for Carrie Black; I saw she was endorsed by Tom DiNapoli, who I think is an excellent State Comptroller. I voted last Saturday, it was very light at the early voting polling place in Lake George, though I guess it was just the first day...

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You are welcome.
Great article!!! So true that people really do not know the huge responsibility that the Town Clerk has to deal with.
Great going Pamela Vogel! You’re a good citizen.!
I don't recognize these Republicans anymore. Weren't they the party that wanted a balanced budget?
Elise Stefanik has once again, demonstrated a twisted sense of responsibility.
